Month of the Rosary
For many generations, October has
been a special month for Catholics. This
is the month of the Rosary. During this
entire month we promote praying the
Rosary and Catholic families in every
part of the world gather at this time to
pray our traditional family prayer.

Praying the rosary became very popular A statue of Our Lady of the Holy
after the battle of Lepanto on October 7, Rosary in the Basilica of Santa Maria
sopra Minerva in Rome, Italy.
1571. At that time the Muslim army
threatened to invade Europe. Pope Pius V urged all to pray for the Christian
army. The defeat of the Muslim army was attributed to praying the rosary. In
recognition for that miracle, the church established a new feast day: The Feast
of Our Lady of the Rosary. Since that time, Popes and the entire church have
promoted praying the Rosary.
The use of beads or knotted ropes to count large numbers of prayers comes
from the earliest days of Christianity, but the Rosary as we know it today
emerged in the second thousand years of Church history. The Rosary will
bring great peace and holiness to your life. It is a powerful instrument for
conversion, and is the best method of honoring Mary.

Elijah Cup
At CTK, our parishioners have the
opportunity to pray for vocations
with the “Elijah Cup”. Praying for
vocations is a responsibility and
privilege of the laity.
The “Elijah Cup” is a chalice that is
presented to a family or individual
each Sunday at the conclusion of the
9 am Mass. That family or
individual takes the “Elijah Cup”
home and uses it as a focal point
while praying daily for an increase in
religious vocations. In successive
weeks, the “Elijah Cup” will be
passed to other parishioners at the 9
am Mass.
To participate in the Elijah Cup,
contact Gail Gaboardi at
[email protected].
The annual CKS Golf Tournament will be held at one of America's
premier private clubs on Friday, November 7. Whether you are a
seasoned golfer or beginner, come out for a fun-filled day of
fellowship with other members, and friends, of the Christ the King
School community while raising funds to support the Parent Volunteer
Association (Ladies, this means you too!). This year's proceeds will benefit both
student scholarships and teacher appreciation.
Player Registration is $250 a golfer, or $1000 a foursome. Each registration
includes golf, forecaddie, hot breakfast, post play luncheon and drinks.
There are several opportunities at varying levels of Sponsorship to make a
significant difference. This year's proceeds will benefit student scholarships and
teacher appreciation. We hope that you will consider making a contribution to
this worthwhile goal. To register or become a sponsor go to www.christking.org,
or contact Donna Cash at [email protected].
Hope to see you on the course!
Short Sermons to Live By
I urge you, no matter what, to keep
praying. If you abandon prayer, you
are taking a great risk.

El Domingo del Sacerdote es un día especial en el que rendimos homenaje a los
sacerdotes. Es un día para reflexionar y ratificar el papel de los sacerdotes en la

escuchen el llamado al sacerdocio y la vida religiosa.

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 5,500 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
