The month of February is dedicated to the
Holy Family. The first two and a half weeks
of February fall within the liturgical season
of Ordinary Time, which is represented by
the liturgical color green. Green, the symbol
of hope, is the color of the sprouting seed
and arouses in the faithful the hope of
reaping the eternal harvest of heaven,
especially the hope of a glorious
resurrection. The remaining days of
February are the beginning of Lent. The
liturgical color changes to purple — a
symbol of penance, mortification and the
sorrow of a contrite heart.
This Sunday, February 1, is the Presentation
of the Lord. This feast is a festival of light. The procession, in which the
blessed candles are carried by clergy and faithful, recalls by its symbolism the
manifestation of Christ, the Light of the world, received in the temple. "A light
to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of Thy people Israel."
congratulations
Congratulations to Brad Young for his being
instituted as an Acolyte and Stephen Gross who was
accepted into Candidacy for the Permanent
Deaconate. The Rites were celebrated by Bishop Luis
Zarama at Our Lady of the Americas in Lilburn on
January 21st.
Please continue to pray for Brad, Stephen and all the
men in formation as they begin a new year of study
and discernment.

PRESENTATION OF THE LORD

Stewardship of Treasure
Dear Parishioners,
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
In today’s Old Testament passage, Moses speaks of another prophet God will raise from
among the Israelites. In St. Mark’s Gospel, that prophecy is fulfilled in Christ Jesus, who
speaks, heals, and casts out evil spirits with authority in the synagogue at Capernaum. As
faithful stewards, we acknowledge Christ as the Great Prophet and also the popes and others
of our time who continue to speak out against moral relativism and injustices present in our
day.

Mardi Gras!
The better we understand Jesus, the better we understand ourselves. But who
was Jesus, this itinerant preacher whom many called the Messiah? In Priest,
Prophet, King, you’ll discover Jesus as the Anointed One–the ultimate priest,
prophet, and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Using
biblical insights and engaging stories, Father Barron affirms that we see Jesus
most clearly through the lens of the Old Testament.
Through this series of 6 DVD’s with Fr. Barron, you will better understand
Jesus, become more familiar with Scripture, and realize your own priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission. All parishioners are invited to join us!

Are You Experiencing a Nagging ‘Chill’ in Your Life?
Our Stephen Ministers Can Help!
The chilly weather we've had recently can be symbolic of what can sometimes
happen in life. A crisis hits and we feel like we're buried beneath a drift of snow.
Relationships can become "frigid," or we can feel "frozen" by life circumstances.
We can wonder, "Is God even there?" Stephen Ministers are trained to provide
confidential Christian care, giving you the emotional and spiritual support you
need to make it through a "winter" in your life. Our Stephen Ministers are ready
to care for you. To learn more about how a Stephen Minister can help you or
someone you know, contact Dottie O’Connor, 404-233-2675.
Bereavement Support
Pastoral Care is sponsoring classes where the bereaved can better understand the
grief process, have the opportunity to express their experiences, and to explore
with others who are also grieving the loss of a loved one. This 10-week series will
assist the bereaved in their grief and their journey to healing while maintaining the
memories of their loved one. This series uses “The New Day Journal: A Journey
from Grief to Healing” by Mauryeen O’Brien. The workbook cost $10.50 and can
be purchased at the first session. The next series begins Monday, January 26 at
7pm in the Media Center in Christ the King School.
To register, visit www.cathedraofchristtheking.org/bereavement. For additional

YOUR CATHEDRAL
PARISH FAMILY
YOUR LEGACY
In our earliest years, visionary
parishioners utilized planned giving
as a way to fulfill their hopes and
dreams for the Cathedral. For
example, one of our founding
parishioners established a charitable
trust in her will, naming the
Cathedral as beneficiary. The gift was
small at first but has grown
significantly over the decades
continuing to bless the Cathedral day
after day.
We invite you to consider a planned
gift to our Cathedral Fund as your
long term legacy. Your gift will help
support special projects and ministry
needs beyond our annual operating
expenses. A simple provision in your
will or a designation from a
retirement plan can create your
future gift .You can designate a
particular project or ministry or your
funds can be used for the general
needs of the Cathedral.
We are ready to work with you and
your advisors to develop a gift plan
that best suits your goals and
objectives.

giving opportunities, please contact

parroquia tan enriquecedora y memorable. Me apena mucho dejarlos, pues

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND

Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will

We are a very active parish with 5,500 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share

Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus

you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can

May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
