A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
This weekend, I am bringing the need of
reducing our debt to your attention. It has
been a concern of mine for the last couple
years, but I wanted to wait until you felt more
at ease and had trust in me as your pastor.
We have a very generous group of people
who contribute to our parish and they have
been generous as we have made contact in
the past two months. I have spoken personally with over 25 families and our committee
has called another 75 to approach the top
100 or so people who are able to provide
substantial stewardship monetarily. All the
returns are not in as of yet, but those who
have responded have been very helpful and
generous.
I know some of you are not able to contribute
to this appeal. I understand that and hope
that those of you who are, see the value of
responding at this time. The table below
shows the difference of continuing our present practice for the next 10 years and going
for it in the next 3 to 5 years. It is important
to realize that we could save $600,000
which could be used to keep our beautiful
campus maintained.
Thanks to all who are responding and to
those who are not able, thanks for giving of
your time and talent to make us a vibrant
parish.
Have a Blessed Week!
Father Paul

Holy Apostles Mission Day—October 17
Many of us would love to reach out and be the face of
God by serving others in need but are unable to take a
mission trip to do so. Mission Day is an opportunity for
everyone to serve people in our community just for a day.
Set aside Saturday, October 17, to work on a team of
parish members to give a hand to
someone who needs assistance
maintaining their homes. Register
online on the parish website or pick
up a form in the narthex.
Are you or do you know someone in
our community (need not be parish
members) who needs help at their
home with cleaning, yard work/
landscaping, painting, or light electrical, plumbing or construction repairs? Let us add your needs to our “to do”
list on Mission Day. (We cannot guarantee that all requests for help will be met.) Contact Joe Filpi at 815385-5673 or [email protected] with your
requests for help.

Your Prayers and Gifts Help Needy
Do you believe that God hears and answers prayers? At
the St. Vincent de Paul Society we do! It is very rare that
SVdPS is able to fulfill a friend-in-need's request for a
car, but in just one week, two such
requests were filled! The first car
went to a local man who is employed full-time, but didn't have
the funds to buy another vehicle
when his car died. For this man,
receiving a vehicle meant that he could keep his job and
his pride. The second car went to a homeless man who
was struggling to find a place to live and transportation
to his cancer treatments. He is now able to get to his
medical appointments and to other services he needs.
And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you
have faith.” Matthew 21:22
Be Part of McHenry Area Life Chain
Stand with thousands of pro-lifers throughout the US by
being part of the local Life Chain on Sunday, October 4,
2:30 to 3:30 PM, on Richmond Rd. (Rt. 31) and Rt. 120,
in front of St. Mary’s
Church, rain or shine.
Please arrive by 2:15 PM.
Approved signs will be
available at St. Mary’s.
Please remember this is a
quiet time of prayer for the
protection of all preborn babies and an end to abortion
so come early to get a sign and say hello before the hour
of silence begins. Bring the whole family and a chair if
you cannot stand. Visit LifeChain.net for details.
Baby Bottle Collection
Did you miss the Baby Bottle collection in Lent? Holy
Apostles’ Respect Life Ministry will hold a Baby Bottle
collection starting after Masses on October 3/4, which
is Respect Life Sunday, with the
bottle distribution, and ending
after Masses the weekend of
October 24/25 with the bottle
collection. As in previous years,
at least 50% of the money
collected will be donated to 1st Way Pregnancy
Support Services, with up to 50% of the money collected
supporting the costs of the Respect Life Ministry.
Please contact Cynthia Heimsoth at 815-245-9813 or

Respect Life Ministry for more information.

Dementia Discussion Group to Meet
Do you have someone you love who is suffering from
some stage of dementia? There are many types of dementia, but it generally involves problems with thinking
or memory. The purpose of this meeting will be to talk
with one another and share stories about your loved
one with dementia. We all can learn from one another.
All are welcome: family members, the person with dementia, the caregiver, friends and anyone who wants to
know more about this condition. Our first meeting will be
Wednesday, October 4, 1 to 2:30 PM, in St. Ambrose
room in Apostles Bay. This meeting will be facilitated by
Don Gaul, whose wife has dementia. For more information contact Jeanne Fraser at 815-385-5673, ext.
124 or [email protected].
Prayerfully Consider a Cursillo Weekend
Cursillo (pronounced kur-see-yo) is a Spanish word
meaning “little” or “short course.” The Cursillo weekend
begins on Thursday night and ends on Sunday evening.
Candidates attending live and work together listening to talks given by religious and
lay people to gain a deeper awareness of
their faith. The goal of the Cursillo weekend is to form small Christian communities
or groups that meet weekly to help us with
being accountable in our faith lives and to
help to accomplish the mission of the
Church. It is a blend of seriousness, light
heartedness, spiritual exercises, talks and discussions
and is presented in an atmosphere of joy and song. The
whole point of the Cursillo movement is that ordinary
people can steadily grow in love and service of God and
man for the rest of their lives. Christian growth is not
easy, but the Cursillo weekend provides a framework for
it, both during the three days and afterwards.

gozoso, dispuesto a ayudarnos, a escucharnos.
