FAREWELL TO ONE OF OUR

On Saturday, June 27th, the Catholic
Daughter’s will honor one of our longstanding parishioners, Josephine
Hunt, with a pot luck dinner after the 5 p.m. Mass.
She has been a faithful member of the Catholic
Daughters of the Americas as well as volunteering
and participating in many other church ministries.
Please bring your favorite pot luck dish to share as
we say farewell to someone who will be missed.
THE WIND AND THE SEA
Living along the shores of Lake Superior—the “big lake,” as
the locals call it—you can often hear the advice, “Respect the
lake; don’t take it for granted.” People who know Lake Superior respect its power and watch out for its many moods.
Sunken ships and boats crushed into kindling are testimonies to
what the lake can do.
The readings of this Sunday evoke our memories of the lake,
of the mighty Mississippi River, or of the ocean itself. Who but
God can control these mighty waters and set limits to their advance? The lake described in today’s Gospel was a body of
water subject to sudden storms and churned into dangerous
waves by terrible winds.
But these mighty agents are subject to God. The sailor and
the fisher all respect the water. Even more, they respect the
awesome power of the Maker of wind and sea.

the months of June, July, and August. Have a wonderful summer.
Feed the Needy (also known as SOULS
ministry). Holy Family parishioners provide
a meal every Tuesday for the Feed the Needy
program. At 5 p.m. team members gather at
the old fire station on Elizabeth Street to
provide a meal to approximately 30-50 people. Holy Family
has five teams, so members volunteer about once a month.
We are in need of some new members due to moving,
etc. A heartfelt thanks to all of our current volunteers who
already contribute their time and support and for their
dedication to the program. For more information, please
contact Doug and Diana "Donnie" Gardner at
330-3535. Thank you.
Holy Family Religious Education registrations will be held each weekend during the
month of August after the 10:15 a.m. and
12:15 p.m. Masses. Registration fees are
$30.00 per student with a family maximum
of $75.00. Please make sure your child is
registered as soon as possible, so that we
can order enough resources for
each student. Please note:
registration fees are waived
for all Catechists. Thank you.

Floral Dedication: If you would like to remember
your loved ones by donating flowers for the Altar,
please choose a date and contact Mrs. Cee Cee
Petruncio, Parish Secretary, 338-2521. You are
responsible for selecting the florist, ordering the
flowers, and paying for them. Or you may choose an alternate method (flowers from your garden, etc.). If you have
any questions, please call the parish office, 338-2521.
LOST & FOUND. Are you missing keys? Or perhaps a
Mass book? Your child’s toy or shoe? A rosary? If so,
please stop by the Parish Office or call to see if your item
may be in the Lost and Found box. All unclaimed items,
including car/house keys, will be disposed of June 30th.
Are you missing a favorite casserole dish, serving platter,
or utensil? If you brought food to one of the many events
recently held at Holy Family, perhaps your missing item is
in the Social Hall or Family Life Center kitchen. Please
take a moment the next time you are in the church and
look in both locations. You never know - it might be there.
All unclaimed items will be donated to Albemarle Hopeline on June 30th.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR - PARISH PICNIC,
August 30th after the 11:00 a.m. Mass. We
will not have an Hispanic Mass (12:15 p.m.)
on that day. The Parish will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, buns and drinks. A signup sheet will be
available in the gathering area starting in July. Start
thinking about what favorite dish (salad, beans, dessert,
vegetable, casserole) you would like to bring to share
with the Holy Family community.
As part of our observance of the Fortnight, you are invited to
join with Bishop Burbidge for the celebration of Mass on
Thursday, June 25 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in
Raleigh. A reception and picnic sponsored by the Knights of
Columbus will follow the Mass.

Help Protect International Religious Freedom by Passing
H.R. 1150 Christians and Religious Minorities
Suffering in Middle East and Elsewhere
Pope Francis has expressed increasing concern for the suffering
of many Christians and others who are persecuted around the
world simply because of their faith. The brutality inflicted on
religious minorities has reached staggering proportions, causing
them to flee the violence in places like Syria, Iraq, Pakistan,
Nigeria, and Myanmar (Burma) with little more than the clothes
on their backs. Millions of Syrians and Iraqis are displaced
internally and in surrounding countries, trying to survive in
cramped quarters, uncertain of their future.
As a way to address this suffering, the USCCB strongly
supports passage of The Frank Wolf International Religious
Freedom Act of 2015, H.R. 1150, that updates the 1998
International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA) and provides more
tools for the U.S. government to support the protection of
religious minorities.
Two vases are located in the Holy Family Memorial
Garden so that individuals may place “live” flowers
in them in memory of their loved ones. Please do not
use plastic flowers. Thank you.
Did you enjoy the concert benefit featuring
“Women of Praise,” a women’s choir composed of
Albemarle area residents, which was held at Holy
Family in January? They will be returning on
Sunday, July 19th, at 4:00 p.m., for a repeat performance. All
proceeds will be donated to the Teri Crowe Fund. Teri is a long
-time parishioner at Holy Family and needs a heart transplant.
She must raise $25,000 before she can be put on a heart transplant list. Information, as it is received, will be published in
future bulletins.
ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE BULLETIN should be
submitted in writing or by e-mail to the parish office by
4 p.m. on Friday at least 2 weeks prior to the event or as
soon as possible. Send e-mails to holyfamily@embarq
mail.com (Attn: Bulletin Editor). Thank you.
MINISTERIO HISPANO- JUNIO 21, 2015
