GET READY
The Letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among
his earliest writings, and are driven by his belief and the
belief of the entire early Christian community that the
return of Christ was imminent. Therefore, to devote time
or attention to anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor receded a bit. Today
we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the
coming end-times, if we should take them to heart. What
should we do when we hear that the day of the Lord will
come upon us “like a thief at night”? (1 Thessalonians
5:2) Does this mean we are to stop our long-range goalsetting, get rid of our yearly calendars and planners, or
stop putting money in the college education fund?
Of course not. What it does mean is that we need to
change our lives, living like children of the light and
illuminating the world around us with the light of the
gospel. Then, on that day, when the details of our daily
living become unimportant, we will be ready to find our

2nd Collection for Repair of Parish Center
In order to help in our effort to raise funds for the repair
of the parish center and walkways, we will take up a 2nd
collection on weekends starting next week. The monies
from this collection will be used to help meet the cost of
the work that needs to be done for the parish center.
Please give whatever extra you can afford in the 2nd
collection without reducing your donation in the 1st
collection which is used to pay our regular weekly
expenses. Thank you in advance for your on-going
support and the extra help toward this needed project.
Pledges for Parish Center Repairs
Your contributions to this special project is
very important. To date parishioners have
donated $25,799 for the repair of the parish
center floor.
We have a long way to go to meet our goal.
Let us work together to raise the necessary
funds. Pledge cards may be picked up in
church or at the rectory. Thank you for being
part of keeping our parish alive and well.
Christmas Bazaar/Flea Market
We will be having our Annual Christmas Sale on Sunday,
November 30th from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The church is
now accepting household articles and clothing that are
new or in the best condition for the Christmas Sale.
Please plan to begin your Christmas shopping at our
Christmas Sale. Vendors can rent tables to sell their
articles at $25 per table. If interested in renting a table,
please call the rectory at 718-271-1100.
2014 Annual Catholic Appeal—7 weeks left
There are 7 weeks left in the Annual Catholic Appeal
2014 campaign. We appreciate the contributions that
have been made. Our parish, however, still need to meet
its goal. We are about $2,000 short of the $33,036 goal
being asked of us. Please fulfill the pledges you have
made before the end of December. Each parish is asked to
do its part in supporting Catholic services throughout our
Diocese. Please be generous. Whatever amount goes
over our $33,036 goal will be given back to our parish.
If you have not made a pledge, please do so using the
pledge envelopes or contribute online as a parishioner
from St. Paul’s at: www.rcdobdonate.org. Thank you

The Nigerian Igbo Catholic Family
The Nigeria Igbo Catholic Family will be holding their
2nd Harvest and Bazaar today Sunday, November 16,
starting with a Holy Mass and Harvest at 2:00pm here at
St. Paul the Apostle Church . The celebrant will be Rev.
Fr. Charles Ugwu.
The Bazaar and entertainment will immediately follow
the Mass. All are invited. Please come and support this
worthy cause.
Food Pantry Food Drive
Please help feed needy families in our Community during
this season of Thanksgiving. Especially needed: canned
goods, e.g. soups, vegetables, fruit, tuna fish, cereal, rice
and pasta. Donations can be dropped off at the rectory
and on Thanksgiving Day receptacles will be placed at the
entrance of the church. Thank you for your generosity.
Free OSHA(Occupational Safety and Health
Administration)—10 hour Workshop
A free training is available for workers in the basics of
occupational safety and health. If you are interested in
registering please call the rectory at 718-271-1000 or

4TH ANNIVERSARY
Las cartas de Pablo a los tesalonicenses son
de sus primeros escritos, y fueron motivadas
por su creencia y la de toda la primera
comunidad cristiana de que el regreso de
Cristo era inminente, y por eso sería una
tontería dar tiempo o atención a otras cosas.
Con el pasar del tiempo, ese fervor
comenzaba a disminuir un poco. Hoy día,
cuando escuchamos estas lecturas sobre el
fin del mundo, podemos preguntarnos si de
veras creemos que Cristo va a venir entre
nosotros como “un ladrón en la noche” (1
Tesalonicenses 5:2). Si la respuesta es “Sí”,
¿debemos, o no, dejar nuestra planificación a
largo plazo, deshacernos de nuestros
calendarios y agendas, y suspender los
ahorros para la educación universitaria de
nuestros hijos? Seguro que no. Pero, lo que
sí quiere decir es que deberíamos cambiar
nuestra vida y vivir como hijos de la luz e
iluminar el mundo a nuestro alrededor con la
luz del Evangelio. Entonces, en aquel día,
cuando los detalles de nuestra rutina diaria
ya no importen, estaremos listos para
encontrar nuestra paz y seguridad en Cristo

Segunda colección para la
reparación del Centro Parroquial
Con el fin de ayudar en nuestro esfuerzo para
recaudar fondos para la reparación del centro
parroquial y pasarelas, vamos a tomar una
segunda colecta todos los fines de semana a
partir de la próxima semana. Los fondos de
esta colecta serán utilizados para ayudar a
satisfacer el costo de las obras que hay que
hacer para el centro parroquial.
Por favor, contribuya con lo extra que pueda
dar en esta segunda colecta sin reducir su
donación en la primera colecta que se utiliza
para pagar nuestros gastos semanales
regulares. Gracias de antemano por su apoyo
continuo y su ayuda adicional a este
proyecto que es tan necesario para nuestra
iglesia.
Promesas para la Reparación del

especial es muy importante. Hemos

donaciones de nuestros feligreses a
la fecha. Tenemos un camino largo
hasta alcanzar nuestra meta.

Christmas Bazaar/Flea Market
Tendremos nuestro Bazar Anual Navideño el
día Domingo, 30 de Noviembre desde las
9:00am a 3:00pm. La parroquia esta
recibiendo artículos para la casa y ropa
nueva o usada pero en buena condición para
que la podamos vender. Se pide a las
personas que por favor regalen estos
artículos a la parroquia para recaudar fondos
para la Iglesia. También se rentaran mesas a
los vendedores que les interese vender su
propia mercancía. El costo de la mesa es de
$25. Si usted esta interesado por favor llame
a la rectoría al 718-271-1100.
Campaña Católica Anual del 2014
Quedan 7 semanas de la Campaña Católica
Anual 2014. Apreciamos las contribuciones
hechas hasta ahora. Nuestra parroquia, sin
embargo, aún no ha cumplido con su meta
asignada. Estamos 2,000 dólares por debajo
de la meta de $33,036. Por favor, cumpla con
las promesas que ha hecho antes de finales
de diciembre. Se pide a cada parroquia
aportar su parte para apoyar a los servicios
católicos en toda nuestra Diócesis. Por favor,
sean generosos. Cualquier cantidad por
encima de nuestra meta será devuelta a
nuestra parroquia. Si usted no lo ha hecho
por favor puede hacerlo usando los sobres

Colecta de Comida
Estaremos ayudando a familias necesitadas
en el día de Acción de Gracias. Durante el
mes de Noviembre estaremos recibiendo
comida en latas, como sopa, vegetales, atún,
pasta, arroz y cereal. Gracias por su
generosidad. Donaciones pueden ser
entregadas en la rectoría. También el día de
Acción de Gracias estaremos colocando
unos recipientes en la entrada de la Iglesia.

La Familia de Nigeria Igbo Católica
La familia Católica de Nigeria Igbo llevará a
cabo su segunda Bazaar/Cosecha hoy
Domingo, 16 de noviembre, a partir de una
Santa Misa y el Bazaar/Cosecha a las 2:00
pm aquí en San Pablo el Apostol.
El celebrante será el Rev. P. Charles Ugwu.
El Bazar y entretenimiento seguirá
inmediatamente después de la Misa.
Todos están invitados. Por favor venga a
apoyar esta noble causa.
