RCIA THE RITE OF ELECTION The Rite of Election of Catechumens and the Call to Continuing Conversion of Candidates were celebrated as a combined rite last Saturday with Bishop Vann as the presiding celebrant. The Rite was held at St. Columban Church and was full to capacity. This celebration was one of the four scheduled dates for our Diocese. St. Catherine was one of 20 parishes that were present at the 1:30pm Rite. The catechumen, the unbaptized, from each parish were called by name by the priest from their parish and recognized by the Bishop. When the names of the catechumen were completed from the 20 parishes, the candidates, the baptized, were then called by name and recognized. The rite is very impressive and significant in the RCIA process as it signals their desire and preparedness to be initiated into the sacramental life of the Church this Easter. We continue to ask that you pray for our catechumen and candidates as they now move into the period of Purification and Enlightenment. This is a period of more intense spiritual preparation, consisting more in interior reflection then in teaching, intended to purify their minds and hearts and deepen their knowledge of Jesus Christ. Blessings, Donna Beam RCIA Director Second Sunday of Lent March 1, 2015 Page 7 Around the Diocese Do You Have An Hour During Your Day For A Good Deed? If so, the Age Well Senior Services Meals on Wheels program at St. Joseph Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach is looking for Substitute or Permanent Volunteer Drivers. The commitment is approximately an hour out of your day before noon (Monday through Friday) depending on the Meals on Wheels delivery route. Permanent drivers volunteer regularly on a designated weekday(s) on a designated route, and substitute drivers are contacted by Age Well to “fill in” when permanent/regular drivers are unavailable. All deliveries are made within Laguna Beach; and while transporting meals is the only driver requirement, many recipients are homebound and do welcome conversation when you deliver meals. If you have a current California Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration and Automobile Insurance, as well as a warm smile and an open heart; Age Well Senior Services Meals on Wheels could use your help! If you are interested in further details and/or becoming a driver, please contact Claudia Michaels at (949) 422-1247 or email Claudia at [email protected]. Serve Him How can you SERVE . . . Do you want to join a liturgical ministry but don’t know where to start? The following are ministries in need of volunteers. Altar Server - Our Altar Server Ministry is open to all parish boys and girls in the 4th grade and up who have made their First Communion. This ministry offers young people the chance to actively participate in one of the Church’s most important ministries; assisting the priest at the altar. Usher - Ushers provide hospitality, comfort and safety at weekend Masses and other liturgies (including Holy Days of Obligation). Before Mass, ushers foster a sense of community by welcoming members of our parish and visitors as well as assisting with seating before and during Mass. Ushers are responsible for taking up the collection and distributing the weekly bulletin. Come celebrate Mass with your family, serve our community and be an example of Christ’s love and witness to our community. Please contact Susan Daley at 949-494-9701, ext. 118 or email [email protected] to get started. Copyright © J.
