An “at will” donation is appreciated. LITURGY SCHEDULE FOR ALL SAINTS DAY SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2014 All Saints Day will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. Mass, Saturday, November 1st. Solemnity of All Saints is celebrated on November 1st and is a holy day of obligation, HOWEVER, when November 1st falls on a Saturday or a Monday, that obligation is abrogated. Praying for the dead is a spiritual act of mercy. Offering special prayers for the dead is a beautiful way to love and honor those who have passed through life before us. For any one who has lost a family member or close friend and would like to remember them, you are invited to present a flower in their name. We will celebrate our All Souls Memorial on Sunday, November 2 with a Mass of Remembrance at 11:00 a.m. IMPORTANT: Please email Susan Daley at [email protected] with your loved one’s name as well as your contact information by Monday, October 27th. By providing information in advance this will insure we have enough flowers and your loved one(s) name is read aloud at Mass. However, Isaiah reminds us that it was God who gave Cyrus his power. He may be a great king, but “I am the LORD and there is no other,” says God (Isaiah 45:5). Today’s Gospel is also concerned with worldly power. In the passage from Matthew, the Pharisees try to trick Jesus into speaking against the emperor. His famous answer is the perfect reply. Like the kings of old, Caesar can be given the respect due his position, but everything belongs to God. In the second reading, Paul gives thanks for all who are faithful to Jesus Christ and his gospel. He, too, reminds us that our call and the power to be faithful come from God. I was quite excited since I had heard so much about this beautiful country. However, I knew that I was in for some challenges and excitement which gave me some anxiety. The first challenge was going on a “zip line” in the middle of the jungle. When they suited us up with helmets and huge gloves, we looked like we were in for some rough “zips”. When the guides asked who wanted to go first, I immediately volunteered. I did not want to sit behind and get more anxious. Surprise! It was really fun! However, all during the adventure, I remained anxious even while enjoying the ride. The biggest surprise was how that experience of challenging myself beyond my comfort level was the freedom I felt afterwards. Conquering the fear was huge, but the sense of freedom is even larger. Why have I told this story of how I was challenged? Because, I want you to face your own fears and anxiety which can lead to freedom and peace. So “ZIP ON DOWN TO MY OFFICE AND SIGN UP FOR THE CHALLENGE OF BEING ON THE RCIA TEAM OR A SPONSOR FOR A NEW CANDIDATE. IT IS FUN AND FREE! —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, © J. S. Paluch Co.
