“If you wish,
you can make
me clean.”
Moved with
pity, Jesus
stretched out
his hand,
touched him
& said to him,
“I do will it.
Be made
clean.”
"Si quieres,
puedes
limpiarme"
Movido a
compasión,
extendiendo
Jesús la mano,
lo tocó y le dije,
"Yo hago lo hará
él. Queda
limpio ".

Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Statement
We, as faithful followers of Jesus Christ, create, nurture, and maintain a community of love
through worship, reconciliation, healing, formation, education and service.
Through Word and Eucharist, we seek the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit,
embracing the love of our Creator in each thought, word, and action.
As humble servants of God, we remain faithful to the teachings of the Holy Roman Catholic Church,
waiting in joyful hope for our Lord’s coming.
Weekly Reflection
La Necesidad de un Corazón Honesto
The Need for an Honest Heart
Today’s readings and prayers prepare us for Lent
which begins this Wednesday. The Collect reminds us
that God abides in hearts that are “just and true” and
we pray that “we may be fashioned by [God’s] grace to
become a dwelling pleasing to [Him].” Lent is the time
of year that calls us to look closely at our lives. We
turn to the Old Testament reading which recounts the
Lord’s conversation with Moses and Aaron concerning
those afflicted with leprosy. In biblical times lepers
were called “unclean” and ostracized from the community. Although leprosy is a physical disease, it becomes
symbolic for us. We are inspired to examine our lives
in search of any faults that keep us from allowing God
to dwell within our hearts. St. Paul reminds us in the
epistle “that whatever [we] do, do every thing for the
glory of God.” To be able to embrace this directive, we
must follow the psalmist’s lead and “turn to the Lord in
times of trouble” just like the leper who “came to Jesus
and kneeling down begged him and said, ‘If you wish,
you can make me clean.’” The leper believed that Jesus could heal him. His faith moved Jesus to say “I do
will it. Be made clean.” We have the same opportunity. Just as the leper truthfully identified his plight, we
too must be honest with God. Today’s psalm instructs
that “Blessed the man to
whom the Lord imputes not
guilt, in whose spirit there is
no guile.” We must approach
God honestly, acknowledging
our sins and proclaim “Be my
protector, O God«. For you
are my rock, my stronghold!
Lead me; guide me, for the
sake of your name” (Entrance
Antiphon).

Synod of Bishops
In preparation for the Synod of Bishops to be held in October 4–25, 2015 on “The Vocation and Mission of the
Family in the Church and Contemporary World,” the Vatican has asked the world’s bishops for a “broad consultation.” In order to facilitate the response from the Archdiocese, an on-line survey has been established that enables Catholics to respond to a set of questions that the
Vatican has proposed for reflection. The survey can be
accessed on the Archdiocesan home page: http://www.laarchdiocese.org/
or
directly
at:
http://survey.laarchdiocese.org/. Responses are to be made by Monday,
March 9 in order to be included in the report that the
Archdiocese will present to the United States Catholic
Conference.
Fr. Donald Calloway speaks as a 21st century priest in a
style that resonates with people of all ages, especially
teens and young adults about Divine Mercy, Our Blessed
Mother, and the reality of God today. Come hear his
powerful testimony in his first ever L.A. Magnificat visit.
