PRAYER FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE God, source of all light, We are surrounded by the darkness of the injustices experienced by your people, The poor who are hungry and who search for shelter, The sick who seek relief, And the downtrodden who seek help in their hopelessness. Surround us and fill us with your Spirit who is Light. Lead us in your way to be light to your people. Help us to be salt for our community as we share your love with those caught in the struggles of life. We desire to be your presence to the least among us and to know your presence in them as we work through You to bring peace and justice to this world in desperate need. CONFESSIONS 3:30pm on Saturday at St. Peter’s Church and after 5pm Mass at St. Joseph's Church or by appointment. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your son, who lives and reigns with you And the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen. Liturgical Bits & Bytes – ALTAR AND AMBO Everyone knows that the altar, which symbolizes the Body of Christ, is an important liturgical symbol. In most church buildings, it is the central focus. Vatican II reminds us of the equal importance of the ambo and the altar, as the Table of the Word, and the Table of the Eucharist. Both Word and Eucharist are seen as manifestations of the real presence of Christ. The real presence of Christ in the Eucharist has always been primary in Catholic thought. Now we are reminded to recognize the real presence of Christ in the word which he speaks to us in the reading of the Scriptures. The new General Instruction of the Roman Missal (P 29) specifically states that Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel. Altar and ambo are interconnected as places from which God nourishes us, by word and by meal. Our celebration at the table of the Eucharist is a response of thanksgiving to the word of God which we have heard. Copyright © 2009 Resource Publications, Inc.
