View from the Vicarage - February 2015
It seems Christmas is scarcely behind us and Lent is
already approaching, and it is perhaps wise that
a er the excesses of the Christmas period we
approach a period set aside for fas ng and reflec on. Lent begins on Ash
Wednesday, 18th February with our services for that day reminding us that
‘We are but dust, and to dust we shall return’. The services take place at
9.30am at St Peter’s and 7pm at All Saints East Budleigh.
Lent is a me for some self-reflec on, and just checking that we have a good
sense of balance in our daily lives. It is tradi onally a me for giving something
up, whether it be chocolate or alcohol, but I do encourage you to take
something up as well as giving something up.
Whether you take up something prac cal, like volunteering for one of the local
chari es, or making a posi ve effort to keep up with friends and neighbours, or
something more spiritual such as a daily bible reading, or a quiet me with God
each day, or indeed joining one of our weekly Lent courses where we will be
studying extracts from the film Les Miserables, I do hope you will use Lent as a
me to pause and reflect on your life journey. It is important to us all to ensure
that we are travelling in the right direc on, and that we have the right
companions alongside us.
Our bodies will all be returning to dust one day, but our souls will be soaring to
meet with our loving God. Let us just make sure that we are prepared to meet
with him.
Every blessing—Anne

Thank you from the family of Jean Daniels Sandra Hawkins and family wish to sincerely thank all who sent cards and
condolences following the loss of her mother Jean Daniels. ‘It was of great comfort
during a very difficult me’.
Sandra would also like to say thank you for all the kindness & friendship her mum
was shown over the very many years she lived in East Budleigh, especially during
the last two years when her health was poor.
Chris an Response to Eastern Europe (CR2EE)
We were invited to have a table at St Peters Christmas Fair early in December to sell

which has already been sent along with £53.59 from the sale of cards.
I will not be making Christmas cards this year but there s ll seems to be a demand
for birthday and gree ngs cards so they will con nue to be on sale in the book

Used stamps for the Leprosy Mission
Please collect up the stamps you receive on envelopes and packages as they are
sold and the proceeds used by the Leprosy Mission. It is hard to believe that a
bunch of used stamps can help transform the life of someone affected by leprosy.
But the fact is that it can! Over the past 30 years, more than £1 million has been
raised from used stamps to benefit people affected by leprosy.
Please put your used stamps in the plas c container marked
‘stamps’ near the main door in East Budleigh Church or I can
collect them from you if that would be easier. Leprosy is s ll
rife in some countries and the people suffer greatly so do let us
help all we can. Pam Mayor 445133.
