Facilitating the Adoption and Maintenance of Physical Activity
The health and fitness benefits of regular physical activity are well-documented, yet the vast majority of
adults remain inactive. This classroom-based workshop explores strategies to facilitate the adoption of a
physically-active lifestyle. Participants will learn about theories and models related to behavioral change,
effective goal-setting, and strategies to increase client motivation and adherence to exercise programs.
Armed with this knowledge, fitness professionals will be prepared to ‘move’ others toward healthier
lifestyles.
Yoga Inc.
Are you ready to incorporate yoga into your classes or with your clients? This basic Yoga course will give
you an overview of common poses that will give you the knowledge and confidence to teach yoga safely
and with confidence. Learn the poses that are most beneficial for your participants and clients, as well as
review common yoga mistakes and injuries that often occur in the fitness industry.
Fundamentals of Nutrition for the Fitness Professional
This classroom-based workshop reviews the six essential nutrients necessary for optimal health, fitness,
and performance. In addition, students will learn the evidence-based Dietary Guidelines for Americans
(2010), including recommended food guidance systems, interpretation of Nutrition Fact labels, and
macronutrient calculations. This course also provides specific parameters regarding dietetic scope of
practice for fitness professionals.

We get creative in this class to give you a totally body burn! Tires, battle ropes, and body weight exercise

outside.
H.I.I.T. Tabata and Rest-Based Training
Looking to boost aerobic capacity and endurance and gain strength all while burning fat? Learn the HIIT
(High Intensity Interval Training) Tabata and Rest-Based protocols that will deliver the most benefit to
your class participants and clients. This workshop will also cover safety considerations and the
importance of allowing for adequate recovery during and between HIIT workouts.
Hands-On Health and Fitness Assessment

shape without getting into the ring! So grab your fighting mentality and lets go ROUNDS! Please note:

Mastering the Marathon New!!
Participation in marathon running has grown dramatically over the last couple decades. This workshop
reviews historical highlights of the marathon race as well as physiological considerations, training
essentials, and nutritional strategies to maximize marathon performance. Whether you are training clients
for their first marathon or striving to achieve a personal record, this workshop will provide you will the
insights to safely and effectively cross the finish line.

Want to infuse your classes with amazing energy, over-the-top intensity and an upbeat atmosphere?
Look no further, this class is for you! As intimidating as it may seem to have participants partner up, this
workshop will give you the tools you need and the information you want to make partner workouts
incredibly successful and super appealing. From cardio to resistance training, and yes, even facilitated
stretching, you will walk away from this workshop with a multitude of ideas! You will learn the basics of
partner training as well as experience a workout that you can use as a personal trainer, in small group
training and in your group fitness classes.
Restorative Yoga New!!
Restorative classes are usually very relaxing and are great for those who need to learn how to improve
their practice, breath, and just learn to relax. The instructor will arrange the necessary props (blankets &
blocks) After you are set in a pose with all your props, you will hold the pose for an extended period, often
up to ten to twenty minutes. Although you are supported, you will definitely still feel the stretch. It’s a
relaxing style of practice that leaves you feeling open and relaxed!

techniques utilizing foam rollers and small balls. Self-myofascial release helps to improve muscle function

Experience the hula hoop like you never have before! This workshop will introduce you to the basics of
the weighted hula hoop and how to incorporate it into yoga, Pilates, and other group fitness classes as
well as format a strictly hooping class. Learn the differences between different types of hoops, how to size
a hoop, introductory hooping moves, and the physiological benefits of hooping.

Body weight training is a great option to elevate your level of fitness with little to no equipment. Although

anywhere! Learn how to use your body to boost both cardiovascular and muscular fitness. Join us to find
new ways to incorporate body weight exercises into your current group fitness and personal training
sessions to provide both results and variety to any workout.
Cycle 360 New!!
Cycle 360: Cycle, Strength, and Core adds variety to your everyday indoor cycling class and provides
your participants with a total body circuit workout. Cycle 360 combines indoor cycling, and OFF the bike
strength & core training. This allows participants to experience an amazing aerobic workout while also
strengthening their upper body and core. Too often riders forgo strength and core training for more time
on the bike, however, the core is the foundation of all movement, and it is important for riders to develop a
strong core in order to improve cycling performance. Cycle 360 allows rides to get the best formats in one
class while balancing your muscles and avoiding burn out. Completion of the Indoor Cycling
Certificate is a prerequisite and heart rate monitors are strongly encouraged.

Workshop Instructions:
a. Allow a few extra minutes to locate your room as the facility is large and some of the workshops are
spread out (see posted signs or ask NETA staff).
b. Although Mats and Kettlebells are available for use, if you are registered for a Yoga/Pilates workshop, we
encourage you to bring your own mat. If you are registered for a Kettlebell workshop, we encourage you
to bring your own Kettlebell.
c. Make sure you sign the green roster when you get to the workshop.
d. Evaluation forms are handed out at the end of the workshop. Your feedback is very important.
e. If you are pre-registered, you will receive your certificate at the conclusion of your workshop.
Lunch and Snacks:
a. We highly recommend packing your own snacks and lunch.
b. Java Junction in Kopp Student Center-Normandale Community College will be open Friday until 8:00 pm
