Maungatapu underpass Project update January 2015 Contractor gets green light to construct Maungatapu underpass At the end of 2014 the contract to construct the Maungatapu underpass was awarded and stage four of the Hairini Link project is expected to begin mid-2015. Who’s building it? Following a nine month tender process, Fulton Hogan successfully won the contract to construct the new underpass. Teaming up with Bloxam, Burnett and Olliver (BBO) and Tonkin and Taylor (T&T) an innovative design and competitive tender helped them win the contract. The complex project will be delivered through a Design and Construct (D&C) model which encourages innovation and will provide the best value-for-money. What happens next? The tender was won on the basis of a tender design. Now that the D&C contract has been awarded, the team will spend the next six months refining and completing the detailed design and preparing the site for construction. The final detailed design will be finished mid-2015. Some enabling works and site preparation will get underway before the main contract starts in July, including environmental measures to protect the streams and the estuary, and constructing the new Baden Powell Centre at Ila Park. The build of the new base for the Scouts and Girl Guides will be carried out by Marra Construction and is already underway.
