This is the second time in one
semester that Jimmy has been
suspended from high school. The
principal informs Jimmy and his
parents that Jimmy has only one more
chance and if he fails he will be
expelled. His parents give Jimmy an ultimatum---if he
doesn't get his act together he will be sent to a reform
school. His father and mother sit down with him when
they get home and ask, "What do you think of all this?"
Jimmy's reply: "All what?" It's usually at this point that his
father starts flipping out, but the father controls himself.
The father calmly but sternly says, "About being expelled
and going to a reform school." Jimmy says, "I don't care."
Then his mother says, "How about we ask your principal if
we can visit the school that they would transfer you to."
The response: "I don't care." So it's arranged. Jimmy says
nothing.
They go to the school. Jimmy sees how they
handle things at this school. The students there are not
looking at him with friendly faces. On the way home his
Mom says, "We love you, son. But only you can decide if
this is your future. I'm not so sure how comfortable you
would be there. Only you can prevent this." His father
adds, "This is totally on you. You don't have to end up in
that school. You don't have to be expelled. All your Mom
and I ask is that you don't let that happen. You decide. Time
is running out. Think about it. It's your life."
It's all staring Jimmy right in the face. He's going
to have to reform, change his way of thinking, change his
way of living.
A young girl in her late 20's decides to attend a
July 4th cook out at the home of her friend. There is a large
crowd present, all baking in the sun. Among the invited
guests is a priest. He's a friend of the family. Our young
girl ends up sitting next to him. The girl starts telling the
priest how terrible her experience was of Catholic grade
school and high school. It seems that the girl wants the
priest to defend Catholic schools, but this priest chooses
to listen rather than say a whole lot. Then the girl shifts to
a tirade about her parents and how they should have been
stronger with her and insist that she attend a better college
than the one she did. And she didn't have too many nice
things to say about that institution of higher learning,
either.
It seems to the priest that this person is only
looking to argue and blame everyone else for something
that is causing her great anger and frustration. She decided
that her parents and her teachers and everyone else had all
the problems---that they all did her in.
And when this young girl made the decision that it
was everyone else's fault, she took her life down the wrong
path. She had lost the ability to listen to common sense.
In everyone's life, there is a time when the right
decision must be made. And if we end up making wrong
decisions, than it is time to turn to God and ask Him to
enter your life and help you get back on the right path.
Stubbornness can be a sin.
Yet, if we want, we can appeal to the Holy Spirit
and God will have compassion on us and help us to get
back on the right track. However, it will mean that we are
going to be in for a change. But we will have decided to let
God change us. That means that we will have to reform
ourselves. If we miss this chance, we will end up
leaving God behind and we will be lost. St Paul says,
"Time is running out."

PRO-LIFE MEANS LOVING
MOTHER AND BABY
When a woman is faced with an unplanned
pregnancy she often feels alone, ashamed, judged and
scared. Many times the financial burden alone is so
overwhelming she can’t believe that she could be a mother.
The Legacy of Life women’s centers are there at that
moment to be a beacon of hope and love - a place where we
care for both hearts and soul ... both mother and child.
With your help, a baby is born not into shame, or sorrow,
but into joy. The centers are committed to serving women
and families in an atmosphere of caring and respect, which
is in direct contrast to what women may have experienced
elsewhere. Sometimes the kind attention with which we
serve women is powerful enough to change a broken heart
into the heart of a mother.
MIRACULOUS MEDAL NOVENA
Saint Joseph's Church, Ambler, starting
Sunday, February 8th to Friday, February 13th will
host Father Michael Shea from the Shrine of our Lady
of the Miraculous Medal. Father Shea will be the celebrant
at daily Mass and the Novena at 8AM and again at 7PM
each evening. This is a wonderful way to spend some time
with our Lord and come to Him through the intercession
of our Blessed Mother with all our prayers and needs.
There are many prayers to be lifted up! All are welcome!
