STADIUM MANAGER – BIDVEST WANDERERS STADIUM
A vacancy has arisen in the Stadium Department of Gauteng Cricket (“GCB”) Board for the position
of Stadium Manager for the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium.
The Stadium Manager will report to the Chief Executive Officer of the Gauteng Cricket Board.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
A. Knowledge & Experience
 Qualified electrician with a valid Wireman’s license, registered at the Electrical Board will be
an advantage
 Must have an N6 Diploma or similar post-graduate qualification
 Must have 5 - 7 years’ general maintenance experience
 Sound knowledge of generators, UPS’s, plumbing, carpentry etc.
 Knowledge of Key Performance Areas and Service Level Agreements
 5 - 7 years’ experience in a similar managerial or supervisory role
 Plan and implement building maintenance for stadium and other
 Cleaning services supervision and co-ordination
 Security services supervision and co-ordination
 Health & Safety Act knowledge
 Building projects experience
 Event co-ordination and have the aability to liaise with role players concerning event
preparations
 Monthly budget planning and control
 Staff supervision, development and training
 Computer literacy and related software
 International Stadium Brand status
 Negotiating skills with various service providers and local municipality
 Knowledge of the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act will be an advantage
 Full understanding of legal requirements pertaining to stadium and event management
 Full understanding of budget planning, in respect of operational and capital expenses,
including annual and five year plans

B. Key Performance Areas
1. Stadium Upgrade, Maintenance and Physical Facilities







Identify and establish a list of all upgrade requirements – in order of priority
Develop a practical project plan to address the upgrade requirements for the year/s
Review the facilities offered to key role players (broadcasters, press, spectators, players,
suite holders, administration)
Establish and update a standard checklist that is to be applied to each area prior to an
events (cricket or other)
Implement an action plan that ensures key facilities are regularly checked during events
(cricket and other)
Divide the stadium into sections with a specific maintenance checklist for each section
Annual maintenance plan preparation and reporting including quarterly updates
2. International Stadium Brand Status




Integrate ideas and brand objectives with Marketing Department in order to bring focus to
the stadium brand name
Ensure delivery on all key strategic focus areas which will position the stadium on a worldclass platform, hence driving an international brand status
Review Stadium branding with marketing
Facilitate media access to naming sponsor (PR around sponsor and stadium
objectives/initiatives)
3. Staff Development




To assess the training needs of the stadium team
To identify appropriate training/study courses relevant to the needs
Update individual job descriptions and KPI measurements
To improve cross divisional communication
4. Operational Activities






Oversee Stadium Maintenance Programme - general upkeep of the Stadium
Liaise with TV broadcasting crew prior to International and Domestic matches
Special seating / suite requirements for major sponsors
Action Stadium checklists for provincial games
Eg. Road closures, demarcated entry and exit points
Temporary staff deployment on match days

Provide and execute Security Plan for provincial games
Meet with key role players , Johannesburg Metro Police Department, South African Police
Services, Fire and Safety, Disaster Management , Medical Service Providers etc and discuss
match day activity
Liaise with CSA event staff on match day
Attend Venue Operating Centre meetings prior to all events
Interact with Ticketing officer with seating plans for events
Implement Health and Safety Policy at stadium
Floodlight Maintenance Programme
Implement and execute pre-season stadium maintenance plan
Post-match meeting with key role players / management
Monitor and oversee Stadium Cleaning Contractor
Implement Vendor, Staff, Support staff and Tenants entry/exit on match days
Stadium security Policy and Procedure on non-match and match days
Stadium vehicle maintenance eg. Kombi busses, bakkies, trailers etc.
Supervision of Stadium equipment maintenance and repairs
Catering Vendors – Safety and Hygiene Controls
Enforce Purchasing policy and Accredited suppliers
Prepare year-end budget for Income and Expense for Stadium
Monitor monthly expenses against budgets
Meet budget requirements for the Stadium
Plan, control and manage CAPEX projects
Prepare monthly reports for committee meetings
Prepare reports for the year-end Annual Report
Maintenance staff oversee and motivate
Time keeping and performance of staff
In addition the candidate should have:








Strong inter-personal skills and the ability to be a team player
Sound people management experience
An optimistic and positive approach to work
Good initiative and be articulate in verbal and written form
A logic and rational approach to problem solving
The ability to work under pressure
Must have own transport
Be able and willing to work long and non-standard working hours at times, including
weekends/public holidays
