Mission Statement
We, the Parish Family of Saint Valentine, are a Roman Catholic Community within the local church of the Archdiocese of Newark. The
celebration of the Mass and the Sacraments is central to our identity as a parochial community which worships God in fellowship with family,
neighbors and friends. Sharing the Eucharist empowers us to be a sign of the Kingdom of God present among us, yet ever becoming more a
reality, as we follow Christ, proclaiming his Gospel and witnessing to his teaching. Through liturgical worship and the ministries of the Church,
we are enabled to love each other in our service of God. THEREFORE, we the Parish Community of Saint Valentine, are dedicated to serving
others within and outside ourselves, as we strive to deepen our own commitment to the Lord and to announce the Good News of salvation in
Christ.

A MESSAGE FROM
THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Parishioners:
In this Sunday’s Gospel, the people in the
synagogue were astonished at Jesus because
He taught them with authority. He doesn’t
give a wishy-washy teaching from gossip,
hearsay or from opinions, but He tells them
the truth; He tells them the good news from
what He knows and experiences from a living
relationship with God the Father.
CHURCH ENVELOPES
If you are using checks for your
donation, please do not combine
amounts on your check. All
collections are kept separately.
Sunday, 2nd Collection, Monthly
50/50. This is for Accounting purposes. Thank
you.
STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS
“Brothers and sisters: I should like you
to be free of anxieties.”
1 CORINTHIANS 7:32.
We have no authority to change what Jesus
has revealed to us and give a different
teaching. This is a matter that is very serious.
In the world today, we have charlatans – a
dime a dozen – who presumptuously tell you
what they think Jesus would want you to do.
They dare to dumb down important teachings
that God has given us. We have no right to
change the teachings that God has given us
just because we don’t agree with them or
because they go against our selfish desires.
How much anxiety do we bring upon
ourselves by constantly worrying about
not having enough or attaining more
things? God won’t necessarily give you
everything you want, but He will
provide everything you need. Try this
use the word “pray” instead of the
word “worry” in the future.
Even the Pope, being a custodian of the
teachings of Jesus has no right to change these
teachings that affect faith and morals. As what
St Paul says that even if an angel gives you a
gospel contrary to what we preach to you, may
he be cursed (Galatians 1:8). If you get an
“angel” teaching you against the teachings of
Christ, it is probably a fallen angel – a demon.
Don’t listen to him or his agents.
WEEK OF FEBRUARY 1, 2015
The good news in this Sunday’s gospel is that
God is not indifferent to our suffering the
culture of death and the darkness surrounding
us. He has sent us His Son to lead us to deathshattering Life. Even the demons fear and
acknowledge the authority of Jesus. Let us
follow Him.
- Fr Basil.
