The IBS 2015 is an exci ng interna onal forum that will address the many challenges facing important areas in biohydrometallurgy, (bio)-metallurgy environments and (bio)-remedia on. Research over many years has shown that biohydrometallurgy, which uses biological processes to extract and recover metals, is regarded as an ecofriendly biotechnology for producing precious and base metals, and is considered likely by many scien st to become more extensive in applica on in future years. Moreover as metal ore grades con nue to decline and the need to less accessible ore bodies, to reprocess wastes and to recycle metals from electronic and other materials becomes more challenging. Also, using biohydrometallurgical processes to remediate mine waters (acid, mine drainage etc.) is seen as an important area of development and applica on by enviromentalists and others. Applica on of biohydrometallurgy in the mining industry was highlighted by Scien ﬁc American as one of “10 World Changing Ideeas”. OBJECTIVES IBS 2015 is an interna onal forum for exchange, discussion and communica on between experts, academics, students, researchers, prac oners, government ins tu ons and professionals from industries in order to: £ facilitate and encourage the exchange of recent developments, innova ons, technical and commercial challenges of implemen ng biohydrometallurgy in a technology as well as future biohydrometallurgy for both produc on and metals remedia on technologies, and £ to promote intercommunion and interna onal collabbora on between par cipants in the ﬁeld of biohydrometallurgy and related ﬁeld.
