Please note that copies of discipline records may be requested by Science and Engineering Academy administrators. Students who meet the criteria will be admitted to the lottery pool. Once a lottery pool has been established from the applications that meet the initial criteria, the lottery will be conducted. A random selection process is used to select students from the qualified applicants. At the end of the school year in which students apply, grades, conduct, attendance and test scores will be reviewed and admission may be revoked if all are not satisfactory. Students included in the lottery pool but not selected in the initial lottery will remain in the pool that will be used to fill additional spots as openings occur. Applicant, Parent, Counselor, Principal: If there is any information or extenuating circumstances regarding attendance, grades, conduct, discipline referrals, or any other special circumstances of which SEA officials should be aware regarding this applicant, use this space provided for an explanation. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Acceptance Notification Students will be notified of tentative acceptance by letter that will be mailed on March 7, 2014. This acceptance is TENTATIVE until SEA receives the applicant’s FINAL REPORT CARD, CITIZENSHIP REPORTS, DISCIPLINE RECORDS, AND TEST SCORES. If any of these reports are unsatisfactory, the applicant will not be admitted to SEA. UIL Athletic Participation According to UIL policy, once enrolled in a magnet program, if the student leaves the magnet school to attend the school of the parents’ residence or any other high school, the student is not eligible for varsity athletic competition for one calendar year. Also, students who attend NISD magnet schools will represent only their respective magnet/host campus in school extracurricular activities. NORTHSIDE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT SEA APP 11/14 STUDENT AND PARENT AGREEMENT We understand that the curriculum of the Science & Engineering Academy is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in science, math, technology or engineering. We understand that admission to the Science & Engineering Academy is competitive, and if accepted, we understand that satisfactory behavior, conduct, attendance and academic progress is mandatory for continued enrollment. We realize that administrators from the Science & Engineering Academy may view discipline records as part of the application process. Due to outside contact with engineering and scientific professionals, future employers, and the general public, a higher standard of appearance is expected for all Science & Engineering Academy students than what may be expected at a traditional high school. We understand that the Science & Engineering Academy administration and faculty will advise students on the responsibility of maintaining a mature and professional appearance, including length, coloring, and styles of hair grooming as well as appropriate dress and footwear. We agree to abide by all NISD policies including discipline, regular and punctual attendance, good conduct, academic honesty, and passing grades. Because computer technology and Internet access are an important component of the Science & Engineering Academy curriculum, we agree to ethical practices regarding computer security and communication networks. We agree to follow NISD policies regarding computer and Internet use. We understand that the Science & Engineering Academy has additional academic requirements including but not limited to completing a qualified academic research project every school year. Additionally, all core English, Math, Science, and Social Studies classes are pre-AP or AP. All SEA students will enter declaring a STEM Endorsement. By completing all the SEA course requirements students will also earn the Multidisciplinary Studies Endorsement and likely additional endorsements as well. We understand that if we transfer to another high school, UIL rules prevent us from playing varsity athletics for one school year.
