1st Egyptian Educational Institute on Responsible Science
21-26 March 2015, Ain El-Sokhna, Egypt
The National Research Council of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, in
cooperation with Ain Shams University who is the co-organizing partner ,
Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Cairo University, Damanhour University and Mansoura
University announces the call for applications for the 1st Egyptian Educational
Institute on Responsible Science. The Institute will take place at the Mövenpick hotel Ain El-Sokhna, Egypt from 2126 March 2015. Following on the steps of the Educational Institutes that took
place in the MENA region and other parts of the World,1 we aim to strengthen
the network of faculty in Egypt who can use active learning pedagogical
techniques to teach about responsible science and research with dual use
potential.

Eligibility Criteria




Applicants must be faculty/university staff, who have been working and living
in Egypt, who should apply in teams of 2-3, preferably from the same
academic/research institution.
Accepted participants must stay for the entire institute from 21-26 March
2015.
Accepted participants must agree to use one or more of the instructional
materials developed at the Institute in their teaching, preferably in the fall
semester 2015.
It is expected that one member/team will participate in the follow-up
evaluation meeting during the academic year 2016.

1. Applicant’s personal information
2. Brief biographical sketch (one paragraph)
3. Personal statement (no more than one and a half pages) that includes:
a. Your interest in active teaching, learning techniques and the types of
courses you teach
b. What “responsible science” means for you
c. What you hope to achieve by attending the Institute
d. The names of individuals from your institution who are also applying
4. Please provide a supporting letter from the Dean and/or Head of your
department indicating that s/he is supporting your attendance at the
Institute and will support the usage of one or more of the instructional
materials developed at the Institute in your teaching.

4 The Institute’s General Rules
In order to have your completion
certificate:
 You must be on time at 8:30am every day.
 You must attend the whole 6 days.
 You must attend all the institute’s activities.
 Any damage to property, equipment and rooms
done by any trainee will be charged to him/her.
 Trainees will be expected to show courtesy to all
course staff and domestic staff.
 Smoking is not permitted at any time.
 All rules and regulations must be followed.
