Box 44 Clinton, Maryland 20735 301 868-2550 CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY The party was held on Sunday, December 14, 2014. Eighty-six (86) children were signed up. Santa gave each child a gift, candy cane and balloon. Before the arrival of Santa, Cha Cha – The Clown performed magic and dancing with the children’s. She was great and the children loved her. Refreshments served were hot dogs, cake, ice cream, juice and soda for everyone. It took many hours of volunteering to prepare for this party but it is always well worth it. The faces on the children tell it all. A big thank you to Ed White, Connie Puryear, Jackie Stirling, Diane Miller, Cindy White, Melanie White, Brie O’Neal and “Santa Claus” aka Drew Stirling. The holidays are over and we can now (unless you’re like me- busy holiday or not) get back to doing regular daily tasks. I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and started the New Year on a positive level. Executive Committee The executive committee met on Monday, January 12, 2015, and discussed several issues that will be presented at our next meeting on February 9, 2015 for vote. Please plan to attend since all of these issues involve fund raising events for the Auxiliary. Poppy Program Did you know that there are ways the Auxiliary can honor the Poppy Program all year long? For example, in January entitled “National Security” Honor your law enforcement, fire department, rescue squad, and National Guard. Present Poppy boutonnieres to them. I will have a hand out at the next meeting with activities for the other months. Each year the American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a Poppy Poster Contest for students in grades 2-12. Grade levels are divided into seven classes. One award in each of the three classes will be presented in each division. I will have a handout with the contest rules for members who know of children who are interested in participating in this contest. Auxiliary Emergency Fund (AEF) The Auxiliary Emergency Fund, established in 1969, was made possible by a generous legacy gift from Helen Colby Small of Burlington, WI. Funding for AEF grants comes from generous contributions from units and members, and can be awarded to members who have exhausted all other personal and community resources due to financial hardship, natural disaster or the need for competitive job skill education. I will have a handout at our meeting for members interested in this program. Handouts I will have additional handouts at our next meeting: ALA member benefits The American Legion Hearing Discount Program Advantages In the last newsletter I made an error concerning the date of our next meeting as February 10, 2015. To clarify, our next meeting is February 9, 2015 at 6:30pm. Please plan to attend.
