Irish Pavilion and artist Sean Lynch.

The Venice Internships are voluntary positions. Interns will
receive return flights from Dublin to Venice, accommodation
in a shared apartment and a modest per diem.

Ireland at Venice 2015 is currently seeking applications from individuals, third-level students and
recent graduates from throughout the island of Ireland for 5 – 6-week Internships that will take place
during this year’s Venice Biennale, 9 May to 22 November 2015.
Sean Lynch will represent Ireland at the 56th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di
Venezia – with a new artwork Adventure: Capital that traces a journey from myth to minimalism
around Ireland and Britain. The Commissioner for the Irish Pavilion in 2015 is Mike Fitzpatrick,
Director of Limerick National City of Culture 2014 and Head of School, Limerick School of Art
and Design, LIT. The Curator is Woodrow Kernohan, Director of EVA International – Ireland’s
Biennial, Limerick City.
Ireland at Venice is an initiative of Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council / An
Chomhairle Ealaíon. The Ireland at Venice 2015 Internships are supported by education partners
Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT and the British Council, Northern Ireland.
R E SPON SI BI LIT I E S I NCLU DE
• Act as an ambassador and advocate for the Irish Pavilion and the work of artist Sean Lynch.
• Day-to-day exhibition and venue management such as timely opening and closing of the Irish
Pavilion, set-up and shut-down of equipment, cleaning and keeping front of house presentable.
• Maintain records of visitor numbers and visitor comments book.
• Responsible for the monitoring and security of the exhibition artworks, technology and venue.
• Report any changes to the conditions of the artworks or equipment immediately to the Ireland at
Venice 2015 team.
• Extend a high level of hospitality to all visitors to the Irish Pavilion.
• Proactively engage with visitors, distribute information and assist in interpreting the artwork.
• Managing enquiries from the public, press and arts professionals.
• Support the Pavilion events programme and give talks or tours to small groups of visitors as
appropriate.
• Maintain regular communication with the Ireland at Venice 2015 team in terms of: condition
reporting, maintenance, provision of materials, visitor numbers, cleaning, and security.
• Generating, maintaining and updating content for Ireland at Venice 2015 social media outlets.
SELECTION CR ITER IA
• Have a valid passport and be eligible to travel to and work in Italy.
• Background in Art, Architecture, Design or other creative field.
• Good knowledge of Irish and International contemporary art.
• Previous gallery or exhibition experience (e.g. internships, work experience, volunteering) and
interest in developing a career in the arts.
• Highly motivated with good customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Independent, responsible and trustworthy with a flexible working attitude and able to cope with
the challenges of working abroad.
DESIR ABLE CR ITER IA
• Particular interest in Sean Lynch’s practice.
• Previous experience of international travel.
• Knowledge of other languages (particularly Italian).

The Ireland at Venice 2015 Internships are unpaid voluntary positions, successful candidates will receive:
• Training in Ireland prior to departure.
• Return flights from Dublin to Venice.
• Accommodation in a shared apartment in Venice.
• A modest per diem.

For each of the following periods, 2 Interns will be recruited, with a total of 10 Internships available:
• 9 May – 21 June 2015
• 20 June – 26 July 2015
• 25 July – 30 August 2015
• 29 August – 11 October 2015
• 10 October – 22 November 2015
