Special Gram Sabha identifies
beneficiaries across the state

Gangtok, Jan 28: Special
Gram Sabha to select eligible
beneficiaries under Antyodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) and
Priority Households (PHH)
was held today at different
parts of all fur districts.
In capital, the sabha for
ward number 8, 9 and 10 was
conducted respectively at
Lall Market, Star Cinema Hall
and Tibet Road Welfare Association office.
The sabha identified 280
beneficiaries for ward no 8,
190 from 9, and 265 from ward
number 10 under PHH
scheme.
The sabha also identified
3 beneficiaries under AAY
scheme from ward number
nine and 9 from ward 10.
Earlier addressing the
gathering, Deputy Mayor
Shakti Singh Chaudhary said
“each member of a family will
get 5 kgs of grains under the
scheme. He informed that the
family not owning a pakka
house and annual income of
less than 1 lac can also apply
for the scheme” he added.
He further clarified that a
family owning a four wheeler
and a government service
cannot apply for the scheme.
Sandhya Rani Councillor
of ward 8 said “we have identified the beneficiaries by conducting a survey, however if
anyone has complaint regarding the exclusion, we will consider and recheck the list”.

A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Former
President of India, on the
National Voters Day Celebrations held in New Delhi
on January 25, 2015. Sikkim
has been chosen for this
Award by the Election Commission of India for the
smooth and peaceful conduct of the General Elections
2014 in the State. Sikkim also
has the distinction of highest women voters’ turnout
in the entire country during
the General Elections 2014.
The Shield and the Citation were presented to the
Chief Minister of Sikkim by
the Chief Electoral Officer
and officials of the Election
Department, Government of
Sikkim today.

Engineering in Mixed Farming Systems and Border

Gangtok, Jan 28: Three daylong training on Role of Agricultural Engineering in
Mixed Farming Systems for
sustainable Hill Agriculture
was organized by the Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC) of the College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology (CAEPHT - CAU).
The training was held from
January 22 to 24 for the farmers of Setipool, Aho, Jalipool,
Nandok and Tadong villages
of east district of Sikkim.
While welcoming, Dr. G. T.
Patle, In-charge ATIC briefed
the purpose and schedule of
the three days training programme. Dr. P. K. Srivastava,
Dean, CAEPHT, Ranipool
mentioned the role of Agricultural Technology Information System & College as
a whole for promoting the
role of agricultural engineer-
ing in mixed farming system.
Dr. A. B. Sherpa, Asst. Prof.
(Agronomy) presented the
role of mixed farming system
for sustainability and profitability in hill region.
Dr. Anjala Pradhan, Dy.
Director, Animal Husbandry
Department, explained about
the role of Livestock enterprises in mixed farming system under Sikkim condition.
In the concluding session,
Dr. P. K. Srivastava, Dean of the
college urged the farmers to
adopt the mixed farming systems for sustainable hill agriculture for their better livelihoods.
He appreciated the efforts of
Agricultural Technology Information Centre of CAEPHT
(CAU), Ranipool for creating
awareness to take up the mixed
farming system. He awarded the
certificates of participation to
the participants.
Dalai Lama calls China Nepalese barista prepares for ‘World
a 'great' nation
Latte Art Championship 2015’
Ghaziabad, Jan 28: Calling China a "great nation", Tibetan
spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Tuesday said he admired the
country and its hardworking people.
"China is a great nation with long history, cultured,
hardworking people I admire," he said while responding to
a query by mediapersons on the sidelines of an event at a
public school in Rajendra Nagar.
Responding to another query, he said, "India and China
are two most populous nations, neighbours and have
close friendship and mutual trust. It is very necessary not
only for Tibet but for Asia."
During his interaction, he encouraged students to
spread the message of love and peace as violence and
hate is being spread throughout the world.
Students are the strong pillars of the country, he said.

of the ‘UK Latte Art Championship 2014’ on Dec 15, 2014

points, Nepalese barista
Dhan Tamang, a resident of
Fanborough is all set to compete in the ‘World Latte Art
Championship 2015’ this
year. The event being co-organized by ‘World of Coffee’
and ‘Nordic.com’ will be held
at the Swedish exhibition and
Congress Centre, in Gothen-
burg from June 16 to 18. The
World Latte Art Championship highlights artistic expression in a competitive
platform that challenges the
barista in an on-demand performance. For the preliminary
round of the championship,
baristas produce a single creative latte pattern at the Art
Bar and then move to the
WLAC stage to create two
identical free-pour lattes and
two identical designer lattes.
Scores from the Art Bar and
Stage are combined and the
top 6 competitors qualify for
the final round, where they
are asked to create two identical free-pour of macchiato
lattes,and designer patterned
lattes. The top-scoring competitor in the final round is
declared as the "World Latte
Art Champion". Baristas are
judged based on visual attributes, creativity, identical
patterns in the pairs, contrast
in patterns, and overall per-
formance. The 28 yr old Nepalese UK brewer of Caracoli Coffee will compete with
baristas from all over the
world to win the coveted trophy of the coffee world.

win the UK trophy for best
barista. Now, I want to be
noted as the same in the
world level. I am working very
hard for the competition and
hope for the best” says

New Delhi, Jan 28: The Union Minister for Road Transport,
Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari launched the logo
and website of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) at a function here today.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that developing roads in
North-East and border areas is government’s priority. He
further said that the Corporation, based on the idea of egovernance, will be an instrument for creation and management of infrastructure of the highest standard in the country
with focus on the North-East and border areas and contribute significantly towards nation building. The formation
would boost the initiatives towards capacity building among
stakeholders as well as generate employment for the youth
of the areas, he added. He further added that every road
should be economically viable and, therefore, his ministry
has been trying to address the problems in land acquisition,
environment clearance, rail bridge construction etc simultaneously at the level of project management consultancy.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development
Corporation is a fully owned company of the Ministry of Road
Transport & Highways, Government of India incorporated on
18th July 2014.The company envisages to promote, survey,
establish, design, build, operate, maintain and upgrade National Highways and other infrastructure including interconnecting roads particularly in the North Eastern region and
strategic areas of the country. The regional connectivity so
enhanced would promote cross border trade and commerce
and help safeguard India’s international borders. The infrastructure so created would lead to the formation of a more
integrated and economically consolidated South and South
East Asia. In addition, this would also lead to overall economic benefits for the local population and help integrate the peripheral areas with the mainstream in a more robust manner. An
approximate aggregate length of 10,000 kms has been identified to begin with for development through this company. In
the first phase, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
has entrusted 60 works to the company for constructing 3586
Kms at a total cost of Rs 34300 crore.
The Minister also released NHIDCL’s website,
www.nhidcl.com and unveiled company’s e-book hosted
on the same site. The function also marked the release of
company’s first tender pertaining to the improvement to 2
lane NH standards of Akajan-Likabali-Bame Road in
Arunachal Pradesh with an estimated cost of Rs 272 Crore.
The function was also attended by Secretary, Ministry of
Road Transport and Highways, and ex-officio Chairman,
NHIDCL Vijay Chhibber, Managing Director, NHIDCLAnand
Kumar and Director (A&F) of NHIDCL, Sanjay Jaju. (PIB)

Gangtok, Jan 28: Union
Home Minister Rajnath Singh
has said that India wants
good relations with its neighbours. Addressing a function
of the Indo-Tibetan Border
Police (ITBP) in Kanpur today, Singh said that there
seems to be a difference of
perception regarding the SinoIndian border and that our
efforts should be to come out
with some solution to this
problem. He said that China
should come forward, as India wants to solve this problem. Rajnath Singh said that
India is the only country that
considers the entire world as
its family, but some countries
did not like the strengthening
ties between India and the US.
The Union Home Minister
said that very soon mobile
tower facility would be started at border that will enable
jawans serving at borders to
talk to their family members at
home through phones. Rajnath Singh said that permission to install 134 mobile towers has been given. Assuring
better border infrastructure,
he said that 34 new border
roads have been approved,
besides work on 27 priority
border roads has started.
Singh also said that he recently visited Israel and saw
that modern technology was
used by Israel to guard its
borders. Lauding ITBP, Singh
said that the ITBP has also
tried its best to start e-office
and going for maximum digitalization.
The Union Home Minister
said that during his tenure of
last 7-8 months, he has understood several problems
being confronted by ITBP
personnel. Noting that the
entire life of ITBP jawans is
spent while serving on snow
and mountains, Singh assured that the ITBP jawans
must get benefits of rotational transfer, so that besides
serving at tough and inhospitable hilly terrain, the ITBP
jawans get an opportunity to
serve at plains as well.
Commending the ITBP’s
illustrious history, Singh said
that in the last 52 years of its
service the ITBP has scripted
a great success story for itself. Shri Singh said that if the
Himalayas is guarding us
then this is also the fact that
ITBP jawans are the ‘Himalaya Putras’. Singh also recalled the bravery of the ITBP
jawans during the terror attack
at the Indian consulate in Afghanistan.
Earlier Rajnath Singh inaugurated the new building
complex of 32 Battalion of
ITBP at Maharajpur in Kanpur. Incurring a cost of Rs
36.16 crore, the ITBP residential complex comprises of
newly built administrative
building, residential complex,
transport place, quarter
guard, mess for Officers and
subordinate officers and two
