The 4-H Volunteer Behavior Expectation Agreement states that 4-H volunteers
will “report suspected verbal, sexual, physical abuse and/or neglect of youth to

the incident to Rock County Human Services, the Rock County Sheriff’s

Concealed Carry
The Behavior Expectation Agreement also states that 4-H volunteers “will not
conceal carry while acting in a volunteer role. I understand that if I am a shooting
sports volunteer, I am expected to openly carry/transport 4-H shooting sports
equipment in designated areas.”
Wisconsin has a law allowing residents to carry a concealed weapon with a
permit. However, in accordance with University of Wisconsin policy, employees
and volunteers are prohibited from carrying weapons, concealed or otherwise,
even with a valid permit, while performing their volunteer role. Certified leaders
in Shooting Sports have an exception and can open carry only, and only when
performing the functions of their Shooting Sports volunteer role.
Thank you to ALL our volunteers for your help in ensuring
a safe and educational environment for our youth
to learn and grow!

Leadership
Lima 4-H News
The Lima 4-H had a busy holiday season. They kicked off
November by heading to the Whitewater food pantry and
bagged almost 200 food baskets. In December they spent
the afternoon at Heartstone singing for the residents and
then made their way to Pizza Hut for a small get together.
A week later the members and leaders went back to the
food pantry and bagged close to 150 food baskets. The
potatoes and onions for both baskets were donated by a
club family and the chairman.

Real Colors Workshop – Adult Learning Opportunity
March 21
Have you ever worked on a team with people who approached work differently than you do? Do you find yourself
wondering what their perspective is? Whether it be an Advisory Board, project committee, or even organizing with families for snack duty, you will always be working with others
who approach things differently. One of the best ways to
work efficiently in a team is to communicate thoroughly and
understand where other people’s strengths come from. At
the Real Colors Workshop you will:
 Understand human behavior,
 Uncover motivators specific to each temperament,
 Improve communication with others.
Call for County Leaders
Some clubs have leaders without project members, or
members without project leaders. If you are interested in
being a county leader in your project in addition to a club
leader, please call the UWEX Office to let us know. A county leader would be available to all clubs and be responsible
for additional workshops or programs in the 4-H project.
Volunteer Tax Deductions
A number of tax benefits are available for volunteers under
the general charitable deduction of the Internal Revenue
Code. Volunteers may deduct unreimbursed, out-ofpocket expenses directly related to a charitable organization such as 4-H if they itemize deductions for 2014. See
IRS Publication 526 at www.irs.gov/. Click on “Forms and
Pubs” and then “Current Forms and Pubs”.
The workshop is facilitated by your local trained Extension
Educators. Training will be held on Saturday, March 21 at
St. William's School cafeteria, 1822 Ravine Street, Janesville,
from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and the cost is $10 per person. It is
available to the first 25 adults who register. It will include
networking, coffee, snacks, and ah-ha moments. Register by
calling the UWEX office at 757-5696 to reserve your spot
now.
Full House
Rock County 4-H offers open enrollment, so new members
may join any time during the year. If your club does not
have room for new members, please call the UWEX Office
so we can consider this when doing club referrals for new
families. If your club is closed, you need to be consistent
and not allow anyone else to join for the remainder of the
current 4-H year. Clubs cannot choose or vote on who can
be members
