How do you intend to apply the knowledge acquired in this workshop to design and/or implement REDD+ mechanisms, according to the reality of your fund and your country? Please describe the steps you are willing to take in the medium term. 1. CONTEXT The DR. Congo hosts the second biggest bloc forest in the world, just behind Brazil. The surface of the country is 2.345.410 km2 and the forest occupies 53% of it (1.250.000 km2). 60 % of the population is rural, thus lives from the exploitation of the forest. According to the satellite images from the “Earth and Live Institute” of the UCL “ Université Catholique de Louvain”, between 31st January 2003 and 03rd July 2004, the National Park of Virunga, the biggest in the country, lost 15 km2 of it’s forest! You can imagine the damage for the country as well as for the Earth Planet. 2. ACTIONS Once back to my country, I’ll undertake contacts with the REDD+ desk in Congo for a coordinated action as described widely in the homework this afternoon, meanwhile pushing for the creation of my still up coming CTF.
