LITURGIA DEL DIA / TODAY’S LITURGY
Primera Lectura: 2 Macabeos 7: 1-2, 9-14
En aquellos días, arrestaron a siete hermanos junto con su madre. El rey Antíoco Epífanes los hizo azotar para obligarlos a
comer carne de puerco, prohibida por la ley. Uno de ellos, hablando en nombre de todos, dijo: "¿Qué quieres saber de nosotros? Estamos dispuestos a morir antes que quebrantar la ley de
nuestros padres". El rey se enfureció y lo mandó matar. Cuando
el segundo de ellos estaba para morir, le dijo al rey: "Asesino, tú
nos arrancas la vida presente, pero el rey del universo nos resucitará a una vida eterna, puesto que morimos por fidelidad a sus
leyes". Después comenzaron a burlarse del tercero. Presentó la
lengua como se lo exigieron, extendió las manos con firmeza y
declaró confiadamente: "De Dios recibí estos miembros y por
amor a su ley los desprecio, y de él espero recobrarlos". El rey y
sus acompañantes quedaron impresionados por el valor con
que aquel muchacho despreciaba los tormentos. Una vez muerto éste, sometieron al cuarto a torturas semejantes. Estando ya
para expirar, dijo: "Vale la pena morir a manos de los hombres,
cuando se tiene la firme esperanza de que Dios nos resucitará.
Tú, en cambio, no resucitarás para la vida".

Segunda Lectura: 2 Tesalonicenses 2: 16—3: 5
Hermanos: Que el mismo Señor nuestro, Jesucristo, y nuestro
Padre Dios, que nos ha amado y nos ha dado gratuitamente un
consuelo eterno y una feliz esperanza, conforten los corazones
de ustedes y los dispongan a toda clase de obras buenas y de
buenas palabras. Por lo demás, hermanos, oren por nosotros
para que la palabra del Señor se propague con rapidez y sea
recibida con honor, como aconteció entre ustedes. Oren también para que Dios nos libre de los hombres perversos y malvados que nos acosan, porque no todos aceptan la fe. Pero el Señor, que es fiel, les dará fuerza a ustedes y los librará del maligno. Tengo confianza en el Señor de que ya hacen ustedes y
continuarán haciendo cuanto les he mandado. Que el Señor
dirija su corazón para que amen a Dios y esperen pacientemente la venida de Cristo.

En aquel tiempo, se acercaron a Jesús algunos saduceos. Como
los saduceos niegan la resurrección de los muertos, le preguntaron: "Maestro, Moisés nos dejó escrito que si alguno tiene un
hermano casado que muere sin haber tenido hijos, se case con
la viuda para dar descendencia a su hermano. Hubo una vez
siete hermanos, el mayor de los cuales se casó y murió sin dejar
hijos. El segundo, el tercero y los demás, hasta el séptimo, tomaron por esposa a la viuda y todos murieron sin dejar sucesión. Por fin murió también la viuda. Ahora bien, cuando llegue
la resurrección, ¿de cuál de ellos será esposa la mujer, pues los
siete estuvieron casados con ella?" Jesús les dijo: "En esta vida,
hombres y mujeres se casan, pero en la vida futura, los que sean
juzgados dignos de ella y de la resurrección de los muertos, no
se casarán ni podrán ya morir, porque serán como los ángeles e
hijos de Dios, pues él los habrá resucitado. Y que los muertos
resucitan, el mismo Moisés lo indica en el episodio de la zarza,
cuando llama al Señor, Dios de Abraham, Dios de Isaac, Dios de
Jacob. Porque Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, pues
para él todos viven".

First Reading: 2 Maccabees 7: 1-2, 9-14
It happened that seven brothers with their mother were arrested and tortured with whips and scourges by the king,
to force them to eat pork in violation of God's law. One of the
brothers, speaking for the others, said: “What do you expect to
achieve by questioning us? We are ready to die rather than
transgress the laws of our ancestors.” At the point of death he
said: “You accursed fiend, you are depriving us of this present
life, but the King of the world will raise us up to live again forever. It is for his laws that we are dying.” After him the third
suffered their cruel sport. He put out his tongue at once when
told to do so, and bravely held out his hands, as he spoke these
noble words: “It was from Heaven that I received these; for the
sake of his laws I disdain them; from him I hope to receive them
again.” Even the king and his attendants marveled at the young
man's courage, because he regarded his sufferings as nothing.
After he had died, they tortured and maltreated the fourth
brother in the same way. When he was near death, he said, “It
is my choice to die at the hands of men with the hope God gives
of being raised up by him; but for you, there will be no resurrection to life.”

Brothers and sisters: May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God

hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word. Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the
Lord may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you,
and that we may be delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful; he will
strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. We are confident of you in the Lord that what we instruct you, you are doing
and will continue to do. May the Lord direct your hearts to the

Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection,
came forward and put this question to Jesus, saying, “Teacher,
Moses wrote for us, If someone's brother dies leaving a wife
but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers; the
first married a woman but died childless. Then the second and
the third married her, and likewise all the seven died childless.
Finally the woman also died. Now at the resurrection whose
wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to
her.” Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and
remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the
coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry
nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are
like angels; and they are the children of God because they are
the ones who will rise. That the dead will rise even Moses made
known in the passage about the bush, when he called out
‘Lord,’ the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of

LOS HIJOS ADOPTIVOS DE DIOS
ALL-POWERFUL YET CARING GOD
Normalmente, los hijos son deseados y queridos; pero hay
en las adopciones una ternura especial, un pensamiento
recurrente sobre lo que pudo haber ocurrido con esa criatura, de no haber sido adoptada por la familia, una curiosidad por saber qué llevó a la mamá a dejarlo… es una intensidad de amor distinta. Los hijos adoptados son “los hijos
del corazón”, es decir, de la voluntad de amar; por eso,
cuando en la fiesta de Todos los Santos se nos recuerda
que todos fuimos adoptados por Dios como sus hijos queridos, se nos habla de un amor intenso, fuerte, especial y
apasionado de Dios por cada uno de nosotros.
Children are normally desired and loved; but in adoptions
there is a special kind of tenderness. There is also a recurrent
thought of what might have happened to the child had he
or she not been adopted. There is a feeling of curiosity to
know what might have led the mother to give up the child...
it all translates into a different intensity of love. Adopted children are the children from the heart; in other words, they
are the children of a will to love; therefore, when on the
Feast of All Saints we are reminded that we all were adopted by God as his beloved children, we are told of an intense, powerful, special, and passionate love of God for
each one of us.

Trigésimo Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Una de las imágenes más conmovedoras del ministerio del
Papa Francisco es la del Jueves Santo. Despacio, determinado,
el Papa Francisco se arrodilla ante los prisioneros —hombres,
mujeres, jóvenes, ancianos, cristianos, musulmanes— y les
lava los pies, recordando aquello que Jesús le dijo a Pedro:
“Pues si yo, el Maestro y el Señor, les he lavado los pies, también ustedes deben lavarse los pies unos a otros” (Juan 13:14).
Hoy, en el Jubileo para los Encarcelados, la Iglesia nos invita a
abogar por sus derechos, en el Evangelio Jesús expresa que
para Dios “todos están vivos” (Lucas 20:38). ¿Hemos
“encarcelado” a alguien de forma figurada, sin tanto dolor, con un juicio severo, negándole nuestro respeto,
aceptación y más aún, afecto? Este mes de Todos los
Santos y los Fieles Difuntos nos invitan a reflexionar en
nuestro eterno destino y a prepararnos para ello. El
respeto por nosotros mismos y los demás, nuestras
almas y cuerpos, atención cuidadosa por nuestros vecinos y extraños: dicho testimonio afirma que vemos
nuestro presente a la luz de nuestro fututo y que lo
creemos, incluso ahora, en medio de nosotros se encuentra el Señor de la vida, Jesús vive .

Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
One of the most moving images of Pope Francis’ ministry
comes from Holy Thursday. Slowly, deliberately, Francis kneels
down before prisoners—men, women, young, old, Christian,
Muslim—and washes their feet, recalling Jesus admonition to
Peter: “If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed
your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14).
On today’s Jubilee for Prisoners, whose rights the Church bids
us advocate, Jesus declares in the Gospel, “to [God] all are
alive” (Luke 20:38). Have we “imprisoned” anyone figuratively, but no less painfully, passing harsh judgment,
then refusing our respect, acceptance, even affection?
This month of All Saints and All Souls bids us reflect on
our eternal destiny and prepare for it. Respect for ourselves and others, souls and bodies, practical care for
neighbors and strangers: such witness affirms that we
view our present in light of our future, and believe
that, even now, in our midst, stands the Lord of life,
the living Jesus.

yo. Muchos asuntos demandan atención: la inmigración, la
educación asequible, la guerra, la violencia en los barrios; el
cuidado de la salud, el aborto, el hambre, las personas sin
hogar, el medio ambiente, la investigación genética sobre
embriones humanos; la dignidad del matrimonio entre un
hombre y una mujer como la institución más reconocida de
la historia; la desigualdad económica, los precios de la gasolina y la lista es interminable. La conciencia no permite a un
ciudadano olvidarse de que, ante todo, es una persona. Me
dice que soy persona y, como tal, debo considerar los dilemas de acuerdo a un cierto orden.
The bishops clarify that while we may choose different ways
to respond to compelling social problems, “We cannot differ
on our moral obligation to help build a more just and peaceful world through morally acceptable means, so that the
weak and vulnerable are protected and human rights and
dignity are defended.” Many voters everywhere commit to
voting for candidates who are most likely to work for the
common good of the entire human race – especially for the
poor, vulnerable, war-torn, and planet earth – our common
home. As faithful disciples of Jesus, let us never forget that
when it comes to political elections, as well as in all matters,
the Gospel trumps everything!
