18:1-8
Reinberger was born in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. He
studied and lived the rest of his life in Munich. He was
a teacher, composer, and organist. He wrote a wealth of
music for the organ. His greatest output for the organ
consists of 21 sonatas.
“Getting by with a little help from our friends” is not an
idea that began with the Beatles. Certainly the idea of
“getting by with a little help from God” goes back at
least to the first reading today from Exodus. How we
get that help, however, is the key to this weekend’s
scriptures. No matter how inadequate Moses felt to the
task God had given him, he persevered—even though
he needed help from the people around him. The
Israelites especially depended on God for freedom. The
woman in the Gospel, desperate and destitute, had no
one to depend on, but still she would not give up. She
could not afford to bribe the unscrupulous judge, but
she pestered him into weariness until finally he met her
demands. We sometimes need to turn to others to help
us through difficult times; but if we always turn to God,
we won’t be disappointed, for our help, the psalm
assures us, is from the Lord.

is also the time to consider applications and admissions
for the 2017/18 school year for Catholic schools in the

On October 1st, the family of the late Deacon Wayne
Smith attended the service that both dedicated the
memorial plaque placed on the statue of St. Francis of
Assisi and blessed the parish pets in the Saint’s name.
Deacon Wayne was an integral part of the annual pet
blessing each year and donated the statue a number of
years ago. He died on June 17.

ince all summer, SPIRES has solicited Sacred Heart parishioners to share highlights of their travels with their parish
family, we thought it only fair to include a bit of news about the people who work on SPIRES each week: editor
Catherine Tarbox and proofreaders Mary Beth Grady, Jerry Pace, Marge Smith, and Brian Suber.
Mary Beth and her husband Kevin explored Martha's Vineyard this summer. The island was a welcomed retreat from the
Atlanta heat. They used Edgartown as a base, and toured the rest of the island. One of the sights they enjoyed was the
Martha's Vineyard Campmeeting Association in Oak Bluffs. It's a settlement that began in the 1830's with the religious
campmeeting movement and morphed into a permanent tabernacle surrounded by small Victorian style cottages with
gingerbread trim where the tents used to be pitched. There are still community events of a religious and cultural nature
held in the iron tabernacle and the homes are restored as permanent residences.
Jerry Pace and Gail Ronan went on a six day bike trip/tour of the middle Rhine River from Strasbourg to Mainz, visiting
towns such as Heidelberg and Baden-Baden and sampling wonderful German food and Riesling wines. The trip took them
through the German countryside as well where they passed multiple corn, onion, and beet fields, as well as abundant
vineyards. Beautiful weather prevailed throughout.
Brian spent the week of July 4 at a friend’s wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico. When not basking in the shade, Brian
celebrated with old and new friends and ate a little too much!
Marge travelled to visit family in NJ, then to New York's beautiful Hudson River Valley. Took time to enjoy the 500 acre
Storm King Sculpture Park, which is a perfect outdoor setting for those massive contemporary works of art. She visited
Hyde Park, taking in the FDR Presidential Home and Library, Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill Home, and the Vanderbilt
Mansion. She ended up at the beautiful NY Capitol in Albany. Her verdict? “Lots of driving, but worth the miles."
Catherine took a fall trip to Michigan in September, spending several days on Mackinac Island in Lake Huron. It’s a
beautiful island made famous as a summer get-away for the wealthy of 19th Century Chicago and Detroit. With no
motorized vehicles, visitors get around the island on foot, bike, or horse-drawn conveyances. It was beautiful, relaxing, and
quaint, but after three days Catherine was very happy to hop in her car and get back to modern transportaion, which she
used to drive down the eastern coast of Lake Michigan, visiting various scenic spots and cute town.

NUESTRA FE
M
escritos.
