The total income for the year was $882,774. Total expenses added up to $872,900. This left us with a net profit $9,874. This is good news for the parish. Once again we paid all our bills, made investments to upgrade and maintain the parish facilities, and helped out the poor and needy with donations and assistance. Your continuous and dependable giving has allowed us to continue our mission of preaching God’s love and mercy in word and in deed. Your donations have also made it possible to also invest in the Christian education and formation of children and youth in the parish. The current report shows that the fiscal health of the parish is stable but fragile. The Sunday offertory has increased by 8% this past year after a couple of years remaining flat. Thank you! We also did better on our October and April Appeals. We can still do better. Our OCTOBER APPEAL is next weekend. Please be as generous as you can. We depend a great deal on this collection to help us get through the winter months with the unknown snow and heating costs. INCOME: As mentioned, the tr end of incr eased offer tor y is a big help. Last year, we continued to receive gifts and bequests from foundations and individuals for specific areas such as giving to the poor and funding the free After School Program. We believe this is a great investment because the parish is able to directly help children and people in need without big staffs and overhead. The money that is given to us gets to those who need it. The Catholic Appeal rebate is income based on a percentage of the donations that were made by parishioners to the Catholic Appeal in 2015. This amount was lower than the previous year, but we are already guaranteed a higher return in the current fiscal year. Thank you for your financial support. We encourage everyone to continue giving what you can to support the mission of the Church. EXPENSES: The highest expense we have is salar ies. The number $364,656 pays for the salaries and taxes of 15 people on the parish staff . Some of the staff are full-time workers while others are part-time. These 15 include the ordained and nonordained. Many thanks to the great staff who work hard in serving the Lord and His Church! Please join me in thanking them for all they do when you see them. We monitor the costs of everything and try to save money whenever we can. Last year, we were helped by a milder winter than the previous one. Our heating bills decreased by 36%. Expenditures included purchase of a few new computers to replace old ones; a new phone system when the old one died. Proper maintenance of such old building requires constant spending and improvements. One major expenditure under improvements and furniture was $23,000 for the replacement of new doors – the first set which will be installed by the end of this month. The Central Ministry tithe is a tax placed on all parishes by the Archdiocese to fund the Cardinal’s work. It is a percentage of our offertory. The last major expenditure is charity. There is a great need to support people in Waltham who fall into need. This year we donated a huge amount – $76, 265 to charitable needs. This does not include the $32,000 we sent to Haiti for the rebuilding of the Church. That money was spent from a different account. Thank you for allowing the parish to do the corporal works of mercy on such a consistent basis. Pray that we can continue to do so in the future. During our mission trip last January, in addition to giving free medical treatments to the people of Mitala Maria in Uganda, CHIU offered to pray for the sick. This is the Spiritual part of CHIU. CHIU prays for the sick not only during their mission trips in Uganda, but also here at home. This year on the World Day for the sick (February 11), CHIU asked Fr. Michael Nolan to include praying for the sick here at St. Mary’s. CHIU believes and would like to put forward its Catholic identity. At CHIU we strongly believe that God guides the work we do for those people to whom we extend our care. It is the reason why we have incorporated celebrating the sacramentof healing as we offer health care for our people in rural Uganda. Please join CHIU for it’s fundraising dinner (see below) to hear more! FUNDRAISING DINNER FOR CHIU Please join us at our annual Fundraising dinner on Saturday, October 22 at St. Mary’s Lower Hall at 6:00 p.m. All proceeds from this fundraiser will help CHIU to advance its projects in rural Uganda. Tickets are on sale for $ 50.00 each at St. Mary’s rectory. Please call 781-891-1730 to reserve your ticket! Don’t miss the Ugandan cuisine and lots of entertainments that day. 4 MASS INTENTIONS Masses intentions scheduled this week are listed below. Please find the full Mass Schedule on page 6. FRANCIS PERFORMANCE The bulletin cover announces two performances taking place next Friday and Saturday evening (Oct 21/ 22 at 6:30 p.m.) at the McDevitt Middle School. It is a musical telling the story of St. Francis of Assisi’s life. The play was first performed at the parish when Fr. Gabino was here. In honor of the Year of Mercy, the young people of the parish wanted to share the great story with you once again. The dialogue and music is in Spanish but there will be translation to English. The play is so good you do not even need to speak Spanish. Tickets are ten dollars and can be bought at the doors of the Church at the end of most weekend Masses and at the door of the school theatre on the night of the performance. HURRICANE MATTHEW It was hard to watch the coverage of the hurricane’s damage done to the people in the Caribbean, particularly in Haiti. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to have lived through it. Just six years after the devastating earthquake that did so much damage to the island nation, the people of Haiti have to start all over again. The pastor of St. Peter’s Parish has contacted me a few weeks ago to ask if we could send more money down so they could put o roof on the walls that were recently erected. I was not able to send the money down right away. Let us hope that the delay kept a new roof from being ripped off. More importantly let us pray for all the survivors of Hurricane Matthew and the souls of those who died. Let us also help them with any donations we can make. There will be a second collection for the people of Haiti at all the Masses this weekend.
