For people who struggle with addictive behavior, these words plainly remind us that we can’t manage, control, or manipulate certain areas of our lives. How many times can we look back in our lives and find evidence of some plan at work other than our own? These are the moments when, for whatever reasons, we let someone greater than ourselves work the plan. We probably didn’t even recognize at the time that we were letting go of anything, but in retrospect, we see God’s hand and loving presence. It is our awareness of these moments that gives us the courage and initiative to let go again later on. It is this courage and initiative that are highlighted in today’s readings. We come to call it “faith.” READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Gal 1:6-12; Ps 111:1b-2, 7-9, 10c; Lk 10:25-37 Tuesday: Gal 1:13-24; Ps 139:1b-3, 1315; Lk 10:38-42 Wednesday: Gal 2:1-2, 7-14; Ps 117:1bc, 2; Lk 11:1-4 Thursday: Gal 3:1-5; Lk 1:69-75; Lk 11:513 Friday: Gal 3:7-14; Ps 111:1b-6; Lk 11:15-26 Saturday: Gal 3:22-29; Ps 105:2-7; Lk 11:27-28 Sunday: 2 Kgs 5:14-17; Ps 98:1-4; 2 Tm 2:8-13; Lk 17:11-19 TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — In spite of violence, destruction, and ruin, the just person, because of faith, will live (Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:24). Psalm — If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts (Psalm 95). Second Reading — Bear hardship with the strength that comes from God (2 Timothy 1:6-8, 13-14). Gospel — Lord, increase our faith! (Luke 17:5-10). We are looking for parish office volunteers. Please call the parish office and speak with Irene if you are interested. Please stop by the Faith Formation Office during the week to get your child/children registered. Office hours are Mon-Fri 9:00am4:00pm. Upcoming Events Oct. 2 – FF in session Oct 9 –No sessions (Columbus Day) Oct 16 – FF in session –SEP w/ parents in St Michaels Hall 10:30AM Oct 23 – FF in session - WORLD MISSION SUN. Oct 30 – FF in session - ALL SAINTS CELEBRATION A saint is someone who the church recognizes as having lived a life of heroic virtue. We honor the saints because we want to follow their example. The saints weren’t extraordinary because they were “special,” but because they let God work in them and through them. Like them, we are called to live in friendship with God, to practice virtue, and become holy. Finally, by honoring the saints we also honor God, who created them and inspired others through them. Always say “Thank you!!” Are you stressed and anxious about something? Take a moment and thank God for the blessings in your life big and small. Making a list of these blessings is a powerful, visual way to remind ourselves of God’s love. Whatever you face, you won’t do it alone! Calling All Catholics Do you know your Catholic faith as well as you would like? Are you living your faith to the best of your ability? Do you feel that sometimes you are just going through the motions at Mass? If this sounds familiar, then now is the time to do something about it. Join Deacon Matt in a ten week course to know the faith better and to live it more fully. We will meet on Tuesday evenings in St John’s room at the school beginning on Oct 11th at 7:00pm. The sessions will last about an hour and a half. Please come and see all the richness and beauty that of our Catholic faith has to offer. Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 2, 2016 There is so much to celebrate as the Incarnation Catholic School Community moves into our second month back to school! In the past four weeks, 87 students have already signed up to participate in fall sports, 120 students have won our weekly Ticket Awards, and 273 students have been reunited with their Priories and are ready to compete in this year’s “Irish Cup”! What those numbers don’t reveal is the countless moments of laughter, prayer, and learning that is experienced each and everyday within the walls of Incarnation Catholic School. I am so blessed to call ICS my new home, as are the 70 new students we have welcomed into our community! Come visit us and see for yourself why ICS is a great place to call home! Ms. Janelle Sanchez Assistant Principal Eighth Grade is off to an exciting start! The Eighth Graders worked on projects about colonization and the road to independence, and then presented them to their classmates using a visual (featured here). We learned about the reasons why the colonies were established and the reasons for war with Great Britain. Additionally, the Eighth Graders and Kindergartners are being matched for their Angel program for this year. The Eighth Graders will be the Guardian Angels at school for their little buddies, helping them learn how to navigate the world of ICS. At ICS, we believe that we are community members, and so strive to bless the community through service! Francisco Hernandez and Deacon MaƩ Shirina. Origin of the Legion of Mary It was founded in Dublin, Ireland in the year 1921. It is common belief that the Most Holy Virgin herself inspired Frank Duff with the founding of the Legion of Mary and that She continues to watch over her steps. The Legion of Mary is not another devotion. Is a world-wide association of lay men and women, married and single. It is imbued of the spirit of Mary. Its theme is: all for Mary and through Mary to Jesus. The Legionary is convinced that there is no surer way to find Jesus and to possess Him more surely than through Mary: it recognizes Mary as Mediatrix of all graces. The goal of the Legion is to cooperate with the Bishops and Priests in the apostolic work for the sanctification and salvation of souls. Material relief is completely alien to the activities of the Legion. We meet on Saturdays from 9:30-11am in the St. Francis room.
