Sixteenth Sunday
in Ordinary Time
1883-2016
A Prayer for
World Peace
Lord of heaven and earth,
of all nations and peoples,
all faiths and no faith,
reveal Yourself to those who
are suffering, reveal Yourself
to all who are refugees, reveal
Yourself to those who are
powerful, reveal Yourself to
all who are powerless, reveal
Yourself to ordinary people
in their everyday lives, that this
world might reflect Your love
and Your glory.
Amen

WHAT’S IN YOUR HEART?
If three mysterious strangers appeared at your door, would you, as Abraham did, beg
them to stay—let alone even let them in? Would you frantically take care of them and
get a huge meal ready? Maybe you would if you had a feeling they were something
more than they seemed and might have something very important to say. In his
monastic Rule Saint Benedict said, “All guests who present themselves are to be
welcomed as Christ, for he himself will say: I was a stranger and you welcomed me
(Matthew 25:35).”
WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE,
& WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH.
ST. JOSEPH’S
PAGE TWO
FROM THE PASTOR
My Dear Parish Family,
On the heels of my homily last week, I offer this concluding paragraph to you from a Jesuit blogger,
Damian Torres-Botello from his blog entitled,
“In Living Color: I am not Black.”
“But, what do we do?!
I propose we pray, yes, pray all the live long day. But
we also need to get up off our knees, put those rosaries
down, even step away from the screens, and the Facebook, and the Twitter, and the news-noise. Go out our
front door, cross our yards or hallways, and meet our
neighbor. In the most literal way possible, meet our
neighbor. Look them in the eye, shake their hand,
know their name. Do the same if it’s an office or cubicle. At the bus stop, the coffee shop, the grocery store.
It seems too simple, on the verge of being naive. But
maybe simplicity is what we need when everything else
fails. Fear breeds inside the unknown. If we take a
moment to know each other then maybe we can begin
to live with each other. Then maybe Black Lives will
finally matter. And then every American can say,
without protest, without doubt, without hesitation or
qualification, All Lives Matter.”
Fr. Scott
Please be mindful that the Parish Office will have
shortened hours on Fridays during the months
of July & August. Our hours on Fridays
will be 8:30am-12:30pm

bereaved.
Our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist visit 70 Homebound Parishioners;
170 serve in Chuch; 40 serve at Community Medical Center; 10 serve at Health
South; and several serve in the Prison
Ministry.
Pastoral Care Ministry offers
consolation to those who have lost a

PRAYER IN THE PRESENCE

at 7:00pm in the Church. The subject, “PRAYER
IS THE WAY TO SALVATION”, will be presented
by Deacon Gerry Luongo. All are invited particularly the prayer ministries Light of Life Prayer

WELCOME DEACON TOM
Please welcome Deacon Thomas J. Barry Jr. to
the St. Joseph’s Church community. He will be
with us throughout the summer and then on
weekends as he continues his studies for the
priesthood at Immaculate Conception Seminary
on the campus of Seton Hall University. Born in
Long Branch in 1975 to Thomas and Patricia, he
has one brother and one sister. Deacon Tom’s
brother is engaged and is planning to marry soon. He also has one nephew
named Gus.
Growing up in Hazlet Township, most of his childhood revolved around
school, sports, work, and church. Deacon Tom’s college background consisted of two years of attending Brookdale Community College while earning an Associate degree in Criminal Justice. Then, he was transferred for
two subsequent years at Rutgers University-Rutgers College to earn a
Bachelors degree in Administration of Justice.
SUMMER HOURS
Tuesday & Thursday:
9:30am-3:00pm
Sunday: 8:30am-1:30pm
732-914-2457
His mom was the spiritual leader who made growing in the Catholic faith a
top priority. His father was the disciplinarian that instilled and grounded his
conscience to always strive to do the good. Deacon Tom feels he owes
great gratitude to both of them because they were instrumental in helping
him form himself into a sincere man. He has many family members on
both sides of the family that live in New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, California, and Pennsylvania. Please keep Deacon Tom in your prayers.

MENSAJE DEL PARROCO
Estimada familia Parroquial
