Victor Jagerstatter, for those he served in the various parish communities, the alleged victim, as well as for the pain and confusion we all feel when a brother priest is in crisis. I heard of the news late Friday night while in Poland preparing for the events of World Youth Day. Last evening I returned home to Boise. Obviously, as civil authorities investigate the allegations made, we are not privy to their information. We have received the same information authorities have made known to the public. With this investigation in mind, I have put Fr. Jagerstatter on administrative leave for the common good, given the seriousness of what has been alleged. This precept is in no way a final judgment concerning the allegations, but a temporary pastoral measure to protect the rights and reputations of all involved and to preserve the integrity of the investigations underway, as our Church law advises. As we prayed today at Morning Prayer (Psalm 33:22) "May your love be upon us, O Lord, as we place all our hope in you."
