Field Trip/Fundraiser: Our Saturday fundraising event was great!! Thank you to all of the parents,
students,
teachers and staff who came out to help support the school with this event. We raised about
$300. That is a great start for working towards lowering the costs of the trip. Thank you!!
Conferences: This week is parent/teacher conferences. All the teachers look forward to meeting each of
your and
your students at the appointed time. Thank you for coming at your scheduled time and meeting
with your teachers to hear about the great progress your students are making!!
Cold/Flu
Season is here: Colds and illness are starting to hit our student and staff population. This is a
hard time for all. Please make sure your students are wearing their jackets to school, getting to bed early
for plenty of rest, eating well and washing regularly. Please do not send your child to school with a
fever! All these steps help to prevent and slow down illnesses. Thank you for supporting a healthy school
community!!
We were very lucky to have the senior class from GCHS
come on Tuesday for field day. They always do a great
job. I loved being out there watching the children
exercising,
laughing and having fun. That's what
childhood is all about! This week we will have homework
packets and first graders will have spelling. Next week,
Thanksgiving week, they will not have homework
packets nor spelling.
Our first and second graders are working arduously! We
are learning about place value and apply different
strategies to solve story problems. In reading the
students will continue to practice reading comprehension
strategies in which they will be required to support their
answers using text, pictures, or real life experiences.
During our writing block the kids will be drafting a "How
to..." story which will help a reader complete a task by
following step by step procedures. For cottage (our
thematic unit) the students will be observing and
investigating different types of beaks, and how birds use
their beaks to catch their food.
I love watching the quality learning that we instill at
STEP UP!

On Friday (Nov. 13th) you should have received a
conference confirmation letter to let you know when I
will get to meet with you to discuss your child's progress
thus far this year. Please let me know ASAP if the time
does not work for you and we will make some changes. If
I don't hear back from you I will assume I will get the
opportunity to meet with each of you Tue-Thurs (the
17th-19th). Thank you so much for working with me to
make sure your students are completing their homework
on time and being well behaved at school to help our
learning environment. As always, let me know if you have
any questions or concerns and I will be happy to meet
with you.

favorite books and poems. Re-reading
helps kids read more quickly and

Recaudación de Fondos para la Excursión: Nuestro evento de racaudación de fondos del sábado pasado fue
excelente.
Le agradecemos a todos los padres, alumnos, y maestros que vinieron a apoyarnos con este evento.
Recaudamos más o menos $300. Esta es una buena forma de empezar a reducir el costo de nuestro viaje. ¡Gracias!
Reuniones con Padres y Maestros: Esta semana son las reuniones con padres y maestros. Todos los maestros
quieren reunirse con ustedes. Le agradcemos venir a la hora establecida para comparftir los logros de sus hijos.
Temporada de Gripe: La gripe y otras enfermedades están empezando a afectar a nuestros alumnos y maestros. Es
una temporada difícil. Por favor asegúrese de enviar a sus hijos a la escuela con chaqueta, que se acuesten
temprano para descanzar suficiente, coman sano y se laven con regularidad. Por favor, si su hijo(a) tiene fiebre, no
lo(a) envíe a la escuela. Estas medidas nos ayudan a prevenir la transmisión de enfermedades. ¡Gracias por
ayudarnos a promover un ambiente escolar sano!
Tuvimos suerte de tener a los alumnos de GCHS el martes
pasado durante el día de campo. Siempre hacen un buen
trabajo. Me encantó ver a los alumnos haciendo ejercicio,
riéndose y divirtiéndose. ¡De eso se trata la niñez! Esta
semana tendremos paquetes de tarea y los alumnos de
primero tendrán dictado de palabras. la próxima semana,
la seman del día de acción de gracias, los alumnos no
tendrán ni dictado ni tareas.
Los alumnos de primer y segundo grado están trabajando
arduamente.
Estamos aprendiendo a identificar las
unidades de valor (valor posicional de un número) y a
utilizar diferentes estrategias para resolver problemas de
suma y resta. En lectura los alumnos siguen practicando
destrezas
de comprensión de lectura en las que se requiere
que respalden sus respuestas usando el texto, los dibujos o
las experiencia
de la vida diaria. En escritura los alumnos
harán un borrador de un "instructivo" que guiará al
público paso a paso para completar una tarea. En nuestra
uniad temática los alumnos observarán e investigarán
diferentes tipos de picos y la forma en que las aves usan
para comer.

El viernes 13 de noviembre envíen una nota a casa en la
que les indicaba la fecha y hora en la que podrá
comunicarme con ustedes en cuanto al progreso de su
hijo(a) a lo largo de este año. Por favor notifíqueme si no
es un buen momento y cambiaremos la reunión. Si no
recibo ningún mensaje de ustedes, daré por entendido
que podrá asistir a su reunión de martes a jueves (del 17
al 19 de noviembre). Les agradezco que se aseguren que
los alumnos completen sus tareas a tiempo y que se estén
comportando adecuadamente en la escuela. Si tienen
alguna pregunta o comentario, por favor comuníquense
conmigo para que pueda ayudarlos.
Motive a que su hijo vuelva a leer sus
libros y poemas favoritos. El volver a
leer las cosas ayuda a los niños a leer
mejor y más rápido.
