The Most Holy Trinity, May 22, 2016
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. The mystery of the most Holy Trinity is a basic doctrine of faith in Christianity, understandable not with our heads but with our hearts. The doctrine
teaches that there are in One God, three distinct and equal Divine Persons sharing the same divine nature. All
prayers in the Church begin in the name of the Holy Trinity and end glorifying the Trinity. All Sacraments are
administered (we are baptized, confirmed, anointed, our sins are forgiven and our marriage blessed), in the
Name of the Holy Trinity. Church bells can ring thrice daily, to remind us to pray to the Holy Trinity. We
bless ourselves, and the priest blesses us, in the name of the Holy Trinity. There are only vague and hidden
references to the Trinity in the Old Testament. But the New Testament gives clear teachings on the Holy Trinity. At the Annunciation, God the Father sends His angel to Mary, God the Holy Spirit overshadows her and
God the Son becomes incarnate in her womb. At the Baptism of Jesus, when the Son receives baptism from
John the Baptist, the Father’s voice is heard and the Holy Spirit appears as a dove. At the Ascension, Jesus
gives the missionary command to his disciples to baptize those who believe, “In the Name of the Father, and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” The messages for us when we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity are: We are
called to respect ourselves and others because everyone is the temple of the Holy Spirit where all the three persons of the Holy Trinity abide.

6. “It is proper to God to exercise mercy, and he manifests his omnipotence particularly in this way”.[5] Saint Thomas
Aquinas’ words show that God’s mercy, rather than a sign of weakness, is the mark of his omnipotence. For this reason
the liturgy, in one of its most ancient collects, has us pray: “O God, who reveal your power above all in your mercy and
forgiveness …”[6] Throughout the history of humanity, God will always be the One who is present, close, provident,
holy, and merciful.
“Patient and merciful.” These words often go together in the Old Testament to describe God’s nature. His being merciful
is concretely demonstrated in his many actions throughout the history of salvation where his goodness prevails over punishment and destruction. In a special way the Psalms bring to the fore the grandeur of his merciful action: “He forgives
all your iniquity, he heals all your diseases, he redeems your life from the pit, he crowns you with steadfast love and
mercy” (Ps 103:3-4). Another psalm, in an even more explicit way, attests to the concrete signs of his mercy: “He executes justice for the oppressed; he gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of
the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the sojourners, he upholds the widow and the fatherless; but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin” (Ps 146:7-9). Here are
some other expressions of the Psalmist: “He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds… The Lord lifts up the
downtrodden, he casts the wicked to the ground” (Ps 147:3, 6). In short, the mercy of God is not an abstract idea, but a
concrete reality with which he reveals his love as of that of a father or a mother, moved to the very depths out of love for
their child. It is hardly an exaggeration to say that this is a “visceral” love. It gushes forth from the depths naturally, full
of tenderness and compassion, indulgence and mercy.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The 2016 Pastoral Services Appeal (PSA) for the Diocese of Orange began in other parishes in January and
you have probably been eagerly wondering when the campaign was going to start at St. Cecilia so that you
could make your family’s pledge. With Christmas and Easter being so close together, I thought it was best to
start our 2016 PSA in April with a fresh perspective for new beginnings. I believe this time frame will build
the foundation for a successful appeal.
The assigned 2016 PSA goal for St. Cecilia Church is $128,000. This amount, along with the goals of other
Parishes and centers in the Diocese of Orange, will be used to carry out the mission of the Church by supporting eleven pastoral ministries and services including: Catholic School Scholarships to increase the availability of Catholic education for all families; vital Education and Formation for Priests, Deacons and Seminarians; Catholic Charities, which provides assistance to the poor and vulnerable; and Detention Ministry Outreach, which extends mercy toward the imprisoned by sharing the Gospel with them.
You are asked to prayerfully discern the amount of your 2016 PSA gift. Your sacrificial gift in any amount
will be acknowledged as your commitment to our faith and your response to God’s many blessings.
Once we have met our goal, 100% of all PSA donations over our Diocesan goal will be returned to St. Cecilia Church in a monthly rebate.
As you have seen, the modular buildings were removed after Easter, following a discussion with the City of
Tustin, and in anticipation of the Parish Center. Our rebate will be designated to the Restricted Building Fund
for an Overall Campus Master Plan and for Facility Maintenance. In addition to remodeling the existing
church bathrooms, kitchen and hall, our Master Plan seeks to construct a brand new structure: a Parish Center
with nicer administrative offices and meeting rooms.
Together with Fr. Agustin and Fr. Wayne, I am grateful to you for your devoted support of immeasurable generosity, constant prayer and Christ-like love for our St. Cecilia community. With the intercessions of Our
Blessed Mother Mary and Patroness St. Cecilia, may Our Merciful God reward and bless you and your family
abundantly through Jesus the Risen Lord and Savor!

La Santísima Trinidad, 22 de mayo de 2016
Hoy la Iglesia celebra la fiesta de la Santísima Trinidad. El misterio de la Santísima Trinidad es una doctrina
básica en la fe del cristianismo, comprensible no con la cabeza sino con el corazón. La doctrina enseña que
hay un Dios en tres personas distintas e iguales que comparten la misma naturaleza divina. Todas las oraciones
de la Iglesia comienzan en nombre de la Santísima Trinidad y terminan glorificando la Trinidad. Todos los
sacramentos son administrados (bautizo, confirmación, confesión, unción de los enfermos y matrimonio), en el
Nombre de la Santísima Trinidad. La campana de la iglesia puede llamar tres veces al día, para recordarnos de
rezar a la Santísima Trinidad. Nos bendecimos a nosotros mismos, y el sacerdote nos bendice en el nombre de
la Santísima Trinidad. En el Antiguo Testamento sólo encontramos referencias vagas y ocultas de la Trinidad.
Pero en el Nuevo Testamento son claras las enseñanzas de la Santísima Trinidad. En la Anunciación, Dios
Padre envió a su ángel a María, y por medio de Dios Espíritu Santo, Dios Hijo se encarna en su vientre. En el
Bautismo de Jesús, el Hijo recibe el bautismo de Juan el Bautista, y se oyó la voz del Padre y el Espíritu Santo
aparece como en forma de paloma. En la Ascensión, Jesús da el mandato misionero a sus discípulos de
bautizar a todos los creyentes, "En el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo. El mensaje para
nosotros cuando celebramos la Santísima Trinidad es: Que tenemos que respetarnos a nosotros mismos y a los

Continuación de la semana pasada….
[6] Dios será siempre para la humanidad como Aquel que está presente, cercano, providente, santo y
misericordioso.
“Paciente y misericordioso” es el binomio que a menudo aparece en el Antiguo Testamento para describir la
naturaleza de Dios. Su ser misericordioso se constata concretamente en tantas acciones de la historia de la
salvación donde su bondad prevalece por encima del castigo y la destrucción. Los Salmos, en modo particular,
destacan esta grandeza del proceder divino: “Él perdona todas tus culpas, y cura todas tus dolencias; rescata tu
vida del sepulcro, te corona de gracia y de misericordia” (103,3-4). De una manera aún más explícita, otro
Salmo testimonia los signos concretos de su misericordia: “Él Señor libera a los cautivos, abre los ojos de los
ciegos y levanta al caído; el Señor protege a los extranjeros y sustenta al huérfano y a la viuda; el Señor ama a
los justos y entorpece el camino de los malvados” (146,7-9). Por último, he aquí otras expresiones del
salmista: “El Señor sana los corazones afligidos y les venda sus heridas. […] El Señor sostiene a los humildes
y humilla a los malvados hasta el polvo” (147,3.6). Así pues, la misericordia de Dios no es una idea abstracta,
sino una realidad concreta con la cual Él revela su amor, que es como el de un padre o una madre que se
conmueven en lo más profundo de sus entrañas por el propio hijo. Vale decir que se trata realmente de un
amor “visceral”. Proviene desde lo más íntimo como un sentimiento profundo, natural, hecho de ternura y

Gioan chương 15 - 18, chúng ta thấy chi tiết sự rao giảng của Chúa Giêsu về mầu nhiệm Thiên Chúa Ba Ngôi:
1) Ðức Chúa Cha đã dựng nên tất cả mọi vạn vật. 2) Chúa Giêsu cứu độ và giao hòa chúng ta với Thiên Chúa.
3) Chúa Thánh Thần thánh hóa chúng ta, ban ơn sức mạnh, dạy và hướng dẫn chúng ta tới Thiên Chúa. Bài
học của Lễ Kính Mầu Nhiệm Thiên Chúa Ba Ngôi dạy chúng ta hãy kính trọng lẫn nhau và người khác bởi vì
mọi người đều là đền thờ nơi Thiên Chúa Ba Ngôi ngự trị. Chúng ta hãy tin tưởng vào Thiên Chúa Ba Ngôi
