Page 2 Ascension of the Lord Christ and the Church The ascension is but one moment in the single whole of the paschal mystery. In the death, resurrection and glorification of Jesus and in the sending of the Spirit, God has reconciled and renewed the world. Because history still continues, the fullness of God’s kingdom is not yet among us. And yet something definitive has happened, something that can never be denied or taken away or undermined. Jesus lives, he lives as the eternal priest and good shepherd, as the one seated at the right hand of God. He intercedes for us, guides us, shares his life with us, draws us into his worship. He does all these things in a special way in and through the church. It is called to be a visible sign of his continuing love and compassion, his forgiveness and peace. Today’s liturgy renews our awareness of all this. The joy and the peace that it brings should not, however, allow us to forget our mission. Between the time of Jesus and the fulfillment of all things in the end, the church and all its members are called to be witnesses of Christ, people who keep alive in the world his message and who reflect in their lives the new life in the Spirit that his death and resurrection have gained for us. —Preparing for Worship Mary, on this day when we honor all mothers, we turn to you. We thank the Lord whom you serve for the great gift of motherhood. Never has it been known that anyone who sought your intercession was left unaided by grace. Dear Mother, thank you for your "Yes" to the invitation of the angel which brought heaven to earth and changed human history. You opened yourself to God's word and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. Happy Mother’s Day! Dear Mother, intercede for all of our mothers. Ask your Divine Son to give them the grace of surrendered love so that they could join with you in giving their own "Fiat." May they find daily the strength to say yes to the call of sacrificial love - the very heart of the vocation of motherhood. May their love and witness be a source of great inspiration for all of us called to follow your Son. On this Mother’s day, Mother of the Word Incarnate, pray for us who have recourse to you... In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen May 8, 2016 It’s better to give than to receive. Learn how. While our pledge amount is up, our participation rate is down! We have about 50 less people pledging this year as compared to last year’s appeal. To date, we have received $34,000 in pledges and we are grateful to all of you who have stepped up to make those donations. It would be even better if we had everyone’s participation and we invite those who have yet to pledge to prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal with your donation. Do you want to learn how to PRAY in color? With papers and markers, you will draw closer to God. Everyone is Welcome to Attend the Anointing of the Sick Mass Saturday, May 14 9am You’ve been hearing about the St. Didacus Mental Health Ministry. It’s a new ministry starting up here at the parish. If you’re interested in knowing more, join them at their meeting on Thursday, May 12th at 7pm in the Parish Hall. You are invited to the St. Didacus Mental Health Ministry’s Educational Presentation of Bridges of Hope Monday, May 23rd 7pm in the Parish Hall Bridges of Hope is a faith-based look at mental health and how the church can be empowered to make a difference in the lives of those affected by mental illness. Julie Benn, a representative from NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will be the speaker for this 45-minute presentation. On November 15, 1930, Fr. Luke Deignan became the second pastor of St. Didacus Church. His mission was to get a school built. All his efforts were realized when St. Didacus School was built and dedicated on September 17, 1939. Don’t forget about your photography appointments this week! Lifetouch photographers will be in the Parish Hall May 11-15th. If you haven’t signed up to have your photo taken for our directory, contact the Parish Office and we’ll find a time for you! We’ve added more days of photography! May 25—29! In celebration of our parish’s 90th anniversary this year, Fr. Mike is asking for you to submit your own special prayers that we might use to commemorate the year during meetings, possibly at the end of Mass and at other activities during the remainder of the year. We can use prayers submitted from our grammar school children, from our teenagers and from our adults. The prayer should be about the same general length as "The Our Father." We would also like to have a prayer we can use in Spanish. The deadline for the submission of prayers is June 1st. The staff will look them over and decide which ones seem best suited for use in the parish during the remainder of the year. Start praying and writing!!!! Zarate Corporal Works of Mercy Casa de los Pobres We were recently contacted by the Sisters of the Franciscan Order, Missionaries of Our Lady of Peace who run Casa de los Pobres, “the House of the Poor” in Tijuana, stating that funding for the Casa is declining and currently only one meal a day is offered to the approximately 800 poor and homeless who line up each day for assistance including limited medical attention. When Mother Teresa visited the area years ago, she exclaimed that through her travel around the world where the poor and homeless abounded, the people being cared for by Missionaries in Tijuana were the poorest of the poor. They are seeking donations to be able to meet the needs of those they serve. You can help them directly by making a check out to Casa De Los Pobres USA and sending it to: Casa De Los Pobres USA, P.O. Box 9596, San Diego, CA 92169. They also accept gift cards such as Costco, Von’s and Ralph’s. There is also a link to donate directly on their website casadelospobresusa.com.
