Dear Parishioners, This has been an exceptional week for the celebration of the Sacraments. Last Monday Bishop Guglielmone conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation to 60 of our young adults and to 6 adults. It was a Spirit-filled celebration. Then on Saturday, April 16th, we had two Masses to celebrate the First Holy Communion of 80 young people. The two Masses were necessary to accommodate about 40 first communicants and their parents and family at each Mass. The young ladies looked so angelic as they processed in with their white dresses and veils. The boys looked like proper gentlemen dressed up for this special occasion. First Communion reminds us how special the sacrament of the Eucharist is for our spiritual growth. The preparation and anticipation of receiving the real presence of Jesus Christ that the first communicants had, is something that we should continue to foster throughout our lives. It is truly a privilege and an honor to receive the Lord of Lords and the God of all creation into our bodies and souls. We should approach Holy Communion with respectful love and anticipation as we think about What and Who we are receiving. It is amazing to remember that God loves us so much he gives us himself sacramentally under the form of bread and wine. This is such a commitment of our God that he comes into us or as scripturally we use the image, he comes under our roof. He abides with us and gives us his grace, his life and his love to strengthen us. We receive grace or God’s life in this sacrament if we receive it haphazardly, but we can receive even more grace when we have the proper disposition. It we receive communion with devotion and reverence, placing one hand over the other, or stick out our tongue to receive the Lord, and say AMEN as our resounding YES to receiving the Eucharist, then we cultivate the specialness that holy communion should have in our live and it can have more effect in us. After communion, joining in the communion song or making a personal thanksgiving reflecting on that intimate act of union that has just taken place, then we can enter more deeply into the mystery of the Eucharist which will carry us through the following week of our faith journey. I hope and pray our First Communicants will continue to faithfully and devoutly receive the Eucharist each and every Sunday. May all of us continue to deepen our devotion for this great sacrament of God’s love for us! [Born out of the Catholic Curculio retreats meant to strengthen the Christian Faith of those who attend] and bring the faith to those without or struggling with their faith.] -42 inmates plus a team of 44 men from several churches will be at Broad River Prison from Thursday, April 28th till Sunday, May 1st to take part in this retreat to bring Jesus to all. As a part of this we give a small bag of 2 or 3 cookies to each of the 1200 inmates with a Christian message each of the three evenings we are there –we need thousands of cookies If you can please help bake some cookies –enclose them in larger clear gallon or quart size plastic bags and they will be included in this offering [they will be put in smaller bags at the prison for delivery. Cookies can be baked ahead of time and frozen. This can be a fun project for a small group to get together and do something good for your church. We will take store bought cookies – Please get the cookies to the small kitchen area in front of the church office(Atrium) by Wednesday evening April 27th -- THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT -LETS SHOW WITH THIS SMALL OFFERING THAT SOMEONE CARES As Jesus Cares!
