American Straeet September 10th, 2016 214-3 March 6 , 2016 Fourth Sunday of Lent Sunday Scripture Reflections Reading 1 Joshua 5:9a, 10-12 The Passover celebration described in today's reading is the first in the Promised Land. Because they have now settled in Canaan, the people no longer need the manna (the "bread from heaven") God has been providing on their journey through the desert. Their new homeland will produce all the food they need. . God still provides the "manna" of the Eucharist for us. We do not live completely on our own. We depend upon the gift of Jesus' life within us. No vivimos completamente solos. Paul enthusiastically describes how God has made all things new through Christ. El pinta a cada uno de nosotros como un embajador de paz enviado por Dios a nuestra pequeña esquina He pictures each of us as an ambassador of peace sent en el mundo. Para ser embajadores efectivos debemos by God to our own little corner of the world. To be effective primero experimentar la paz de Dios en nuestras vidas. ambassadors, we must first experience God's peace in our Una forma en que podemos hacer eso es por medio del lives. One way we can do this is through the sacrament of sacramento de paz. Reconciliation, a sacrament of peace. But these people did not realize that cordia y el amor de Dios. everyone needs God's mercy and love. Cuando alguien In today's gospel story, Jesus wants us to know what peca y se arrepiente de ese pecado, Dios corre a abrazarGod's mercy is like. When anyone sins and is sorry for that lo. Aun cuando pensemos que no merecemos el amor de sin, God rushes out at top speed to embrace that person. Even when we feel that we may be undeserving of God's love, Jesus Dios Jesús, nos dice que Dios se regocija al igual que el padre de la historia del evangelio. tells us that God rejoices like the father in the gospel story. Some questions to think about…. Have you ever had the experience of being forgiven or “taken back” into your family or group of friends? Have you ever forgiven someone who really hurt you? Have you ever felt that someone else in your family or among your friends “has it better” or easier than you do? Are you tempted to compare yourself with others? ************************************ Jesus, during this Lenten season, help me to ask for forgiveness. Help me to forgive generously as God does. Help me to celebrate that I am God’s child. I do not have to compare myself with others. My needs are being met as God knows best. Amen. Amen. 214-4 March 6, 2016 PLEASE NOTE—INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING BAPTISMS: Those wishing to have their children baptized— Classes will be held on the 3rd Saturday of every month, at 10:30 a.m. in the Rectory. Fourth Sunday of Lent LIVING LENT WITH MERCY “ Mercy will always be greater than any sin, and no one can place limits on the love of God who is ever ready to forgive.” Pope Francis Reflection prayer: Lord, you are merciful, slow to anger and rich in compassion. My efforts to imitate you are often sad failures because I am not a very patient and understanding person. I am quick tempered and often hurt others unintentionally. In my insecurity, I make unreasonable demands on people and cause undue stress in their lives. It seems much easier to point out the faults and failings in others rather than to affirm their gifts and talents. Lord, help me to recognize the sin of pride in my heart. Forgive me for being an obstacle to your abounding love and mercy. Amen. ======================================= Monthly Papal Intentions To better know “the concrete problems that trouble the Universal Church, especially those of the missions,” the Holy Father asks that his monthly intentions be “the object of knowledgeable and responsible prayer on the part of the people of God”. ============================= For the month of March: A REMINDER— DID YOU PICK UP YOUR RICE BOWL AND ARE YOU MAKING USE OF IT? Also Remember the Catechesis for Youth & Adults Mondays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. At St. Michael’s Church Hall. Please Come and Listen! The Universal Intention: That families in need may receive the necessary support and that children may grow up in health and peaceful environments. The Intention for Evangelization: That those Christians who, on account of their faith, are discriminated against or are being persecuted, may remain strong and faithful to the Gospel thanks to the incessant prayer of the Church. 214-5 Family Owned and Operated Since 1939 www.burnsfuneralhome.com www.burnsfuneralhome. com Burns Funeral Homes Burns Funeral Home, Inc.
