Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat, September 11-13, 2015:
Sometimes situations and decisions from our past can
make us feel disconnected and alone. If you have
emotional or spiritual wounds as a result of a past abortion,
please consider attending our upcoming Rachel’s Vineyard
weekend retreat. These retreats are a safe place to renew,
rebuild, and redeem hearts broken by abortion and many
of life’s circumstances. It’s an opportunity for women and
men to experience God’s love, forgiveness and compassion,
find a voice and transform the pain of the past into a future
of hope! Participation is strictly confidential. “For I am the
LORD, your God, who grasps your right hand; it is I who
says to you, do not fear, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13. For
more information, please contact Mary Huber at
909-475-5353 or [email protected] or visit the

Maintaining this level of service requires considerable
funding in addition to donated food items. Our one, and
only fund raiser for the year is our Birdies for Bread Golf
Tournament. This event is held annually in cooperation
with the Temecula United Methodist Church and this year
will be held on Sept 18 at the Pala Mesa resort in Fallbrook.
Please visit our display in front of the church after Mass
next weekend and learn how you can help. In addition to
golfers we need donated items for our auction and opportunity drawings as well as cash donations.
Additional information can be obtained at www.birdiesforbread.com or by calling Ed Healy at 951-326-0973.
There will be a Consecration to the Immaculate Heart
of Mary Ceremony at all Masses during the weekend
of October 10 & 11, 2015. This will be a brief ceremony and all are invited to make this Consecration of
our Parish and ourselves. Following every Mass will
be a Holy Anointing of the Sick also.
Hi There!
My name if Kristen Mora and I serve as Principal at Saint Jeanne’s Catholic School in Temecula. As part of the
Diocesan requirement, I need to ask permission to print the following statement in your Parish Bulletin:
“The schools of the Diocese of San Bernardino admit students of any sex, race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the
respective school. The schools do not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, national and ethnic origin in
administration of their educational policies, admission policies, financial assistance and athletic and other school
administered programs.”
Do you know when it would be printed in the bulletin so that
I can give a copy to the superintendent?
PS….Your dinner and carnival were great last weekend!
Thank you so very much,
Kristen Mora
Welcome
Please join us in welcoming Alex Rodarte to the Saint Catherine Catholic community.
Alex is currently a seminarian and will be serving an internship with us for the next several
months. Alex was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 23, 1982 and he and his family moved to
Rialto, CA in 1989. He is a graduate of Rialto High School in 2000 and entered the seminary at
Blessed Junipero Serra House in Grand Terrace in 2007 where he remained for 2 years. From
there, Alex entered St. Joseph College Seminary at Loyola University
Chicago where he graduated with a BA degree in philosophy in June 2012.
In the same year, he started his training in theology at St. John’s Seminary
in Camarillo, CA and this summer, completed his first unit of Clinical
Pastoral Education. Alex enjoys reading, watching movies, and listening
to music. Alex joins us as part of our parish family to become more familiar with Parish life and office operations. Please make sure to say “Hello”
to him when you see him.

St Catherine?
What does Comprehensive Youth Ministry look like at St Catherine?
From the USCCB’s document, Renewing the Vision:
Parishes should have programs for young people that recognize their special talents and role in
the life of the Church. They bring to the parish community youthfulness, energy, vitality, hopefulness, and vision. In parishes, young people need to have a wide variety of opportunities to use
their gifts and to express their faith through meaningful roles. They will develop a spirit of commitment within a community only through actual involvement in the many ways the Church exercises and carries out its mission. Especially crucial is the interaction with those who have made
a lifetime commitment to serving the Church as priests, sisters, brothers, and deacons; young
people need to know that such service is both rewarding and fulfilling.
Please consider engaging in your faith by actively participating in our Youth Mass beginning
September 13. Youth Mass band and choir practices are held each Wednesday from 6-8PM.

What does Comprehensive Youth Ministry look like here?
From the USCCB’s document, Renewing the Vision:
“Comprehensive Ministry with Adolescents – It Takes a Whole
Church:
The comprehensive approach is not a single program or model of ministry, it is a way of integrating ministry with adolescents and their families into the total life and mission of the
church. The comprehensive approach uses all of our resources as a faith community – people, ministries, and programs – in a common effort to promote the three goals of the
Church’s ministry with adolescents:
1. To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus
Christ in our world today.
2. To draw young people to responsible participation in the
life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
3. To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each
young person."
Register your youth in our Middle School and High School
Youth Ministry programs this weekend and next weekend in
the hall after all Masses and begin another year of building our
youth for discipleship!

Reflecting on God’s Word
Perhaps you saw the movie The King’s Speech about the future
king of England, George VI, whose speech impediment was so
severe that it reduced him to tears of anger and humiliation.
His wife, Elizabeth, found a speech therapist who was able to
help him by using some unorthodox methods, such as rolling
around on the floor, cursing, and singing. It is a profoundly
moving experience when King George finally addresses his
people over the radio and delivers a speech flawlessly, giving
courage to his people on the eve of World War II.
The story in this Gospel tells us how Jesus helped a man to find
his voice. The man whose tongue Jesus touched with his spittle
(an element believed to ward off demons) came to speak “plainly.” Another word for “plainly” would be “rightly,” in the sense
of correctly or truly. “Be opened!” Jesus says, and it happens
(Mark 7:34). The man then spoke the truth of what Jesus did
for him, and honored him.
As we hold firm to our faith in the Lord, Jesus calls us to both
speak and act “rightly” in the eyes of the world, caring for
those who have little and treating them with the same dignity as those who have much. We are called to imitate Jesus by
reaching out tenderly to touch those who have been wounded
by life and burdened by the rejection of others. Helping others
to hear the sound of love can be done in many quiet ways and
with little fanfare.
—James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R.
