Altar Server Ministry
Do you feel that the Holy Spirit is calling you to serve as an Altar Server? Our worship on earth reflects the worship in heaven. What we do here at Mass is sort of like what goes on in heaven. There, Jesus is offered in sacrifice
and there the saints and angels worship around the throne of God. In that city there is no sun, moon, or stars, for
the Jesus himself is the light of that city. This altar you see here is a reflection of the altar in heaven. This chalice
is a sign of the eternal Precious Blood of Jesus. This host is, on earth, the sign of the Eternal Bread of heaven.
The priest is an icon of Christ the Lord — and who are the Altar Servers? They represent and reflect on earth the
heavenly angels and saints.
What does an altar server do? As an altar server, you are responsible for assisting the priest during Mass. Being a
server means serving God and his people at Mass.
Which mass will I be assigned to?
We need altar servers at all of our weekend Masses. You primarily serve at the Mass of your choice, but we ask
that all altar servers help cover Masses when there is a need, especially on Feast Days, Holy Days, Sacraments,
and occasionally when an altar server is unable to serve their scheduled mass.
How often do I serve?
Depending on the number of altar servers assigned to a particular Mass, you may serve once or twice a month or
more infrequently.
What’s the time commitment?
Generally, the time commitment is about 30 minutes before and 10 minutes after mass. That may vary depending
on the particular mass you serve.
Are there meetings?
Our only meetings are when there are changes to our routine, or when called for by our pastor or liturgist. Generally, the meetings are very few and average once or twice a year and attendance is required. A training session
will be provided for all new servers.
Requirements:
•
a registered parishioner
•
4th grade (after having received the Sacrament of Holy Communion or older (including adults)
•
wish to serve God
If you feel that you are being called by the Holy Spirit to be an Altar Server and if you are interested in becoming
an altar server, please contact our Altar Server Coordinators: Sharla Ortiz [email protected] or Kat Hill kat@
scachurch.org
There will be a Mandatory training for all existing altar servers and anyone that
would like to become an altar server on November 7th at 10am…
we look forward to seeing you there!

YOUTH MINISTRY AND
FAMILY EVANGELIZATION
October 25-26
Information on Youth, Young Adults, Mission trips, Retreats and Family Catechesis
What does Comprehensive Youth Ministry look like here?
From the USCCB’s document, Renewing the Vision:
The ministry of catechesis has several distinct features that give
direction to catechetical programming. (It) recognizes that faith
development is lifelong and therefore provides developmentally
appropriate content and processes around key themes of the
Catholic faith that are responsive to the age-appropriate needs,
interests, and concerns of young and old…it teaches the core
content of the Catholic faith as presented in the Catechism of the
Catholic Church—the profession of faith, celebration of the Christian
mystery, life in Christ, and Christian prayer—in order to provide a
solid foundation for continued growth in faith and integrates
knowledge of the Catholic faith with the development of practical
skills for living the Catholic faith in today's world.
Join us in forming a community of parents by attending our parent
catechesis during our regular formation programs. Whether once a
month or every week, please take this opportunity to grow in faith
along with your teen. If you can’t come Sundays, join us Wednesday
afternoon at 2:30 or evening at 6:15. Check out the blue box for
more details.

San Junipero Serra , (nuevo santo evangelizador
Recorrimos distancias, pasamos muchas

We need volunteers for the M3 Ministry. We need people
to run the M3 projection equipment each week for
English Sunday Mass at 12 PM and also the Spanish
Masses for Saturday 7 PM Mass & Sunday for the 2
PM. You don’t need any prior knowledge about this
equipment as we will stay with you and train you each
week until you feel comfortable to go on your own. We
also would like to have 2 people for every mass and this
keeps things going as people need to be gone for many
various reasons. I hope that you will consider this
opportunity to help out in this rewarding Ministry.
