Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish Cristo, el Buen Pastor 633 Porter Avenue • Campbell, Ohio 44405 • (330.755.4141) (330)755-3633 (Español) (330)755-1367 (fax) • The Mission of Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish is to celebrate the Sacraments, share our heritage and traditions, and support one another in living and sharing our faith in this community and throughout the world. 26th Ordinary Sunday September 27, 2015 OUR PRODIGAL GOD We keep having to relearn how prodigal God is. It is as if God cannot quite manage to say no. We think it is surely fine when God is prodigal with us—rich in mercy and forgiveness, generous in grace. But what about the other—the enemy, the sinner, the heretic, the outsider? Well, we expect God to be as stingy with that person as we are. Moses and Joshua wanted such a cozy world, too. They wondered how the spirit of God could be given to the two who did not show up at the meeting tent—today’s church. And the apostles in the Gospel complained because there were some miracle workers who were clearly not followers of Jesus. God’s great free wheeling generosity confounded them all. Let this be, says Jesus. Just see to it that you who lead continue to be worthy of your calling. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. And, so, without neglecting any part of it, it is my intention this year, as your pastor, to direct our attention to and focus our efforts on one part—“to share our heritage and traditions.” I intend on making this an intentional focus for us this year. Pastoral Council, Liturgy Committee, and Evangelization Committee will help me lead. And, the cultural societies will be essential agents in this work. I anticipate that we will incorporate more fully our cultures— Hispanic, Italian, Polish, Slovak—into the various parts of parish life. CCD and Youth Ministry already have been doing this. We can do more liturgically—by using more languages in our prayers and music, and by altering the interior environment of the church. We need to maintain our culturally distinct events and brainstorm new ways to bring our cultures into our parish functions. Catechesis, prayer, food, ministry, these are all ways to share our heritage and traditions. Now, you may ask: Why am I focusing on our heritage and traditions? Why am I focusing on our cultures and not social justice or rubrics? Because, our traditions—all of our traditions—are what make us unique as a parish. We are not like many of our neighboring parishes, who are responsible for a particular geographical area. We exist as a parish in order to maintain cultural identities. Again, I cannot do it on my own. And, we cannot do it without growing in unity. God bless you, Fr. Que Dios te bendiga, Padre Conoboy 26TH SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME - SEPTEMBER 27, 2015 • 3 Memorial Flames at St. Joseph the Provider The Rosary is prayed 1/2 hour before Mass.
