As Catholics we have celebrated this since the 13th Century. On Holy Thursday we celebrate the Last Supper, but the Church, feeling that the proxim ity of Easter m ight lessen that, instituted this Solem nity to occur right after the Solem nity of the Holy Trinity, which we com m em orated last Sunday. Soul of Christ, sanctify me Body of Christ, save me Blood of Christ, inebriate me Water from Christ’s side, wash me Passion of Christ, strengthen me O good Jesus, hear me Within Thy wounds hide me Suffer me not to be separated from Thee From malicious enemy defend me In the hour of my death call me And bid me come unto Thee W e often speak of Holy Days of Obligation. This is one of the ten Holy Days of Obligation in the Latin Rite Church, but here in Canada and the United States it is celebrated on Sunday. Sunday, of course, is always a Holy Day of Obligation for us. As stewards of the Church it is vital that we understand our Catholic traditions and practices and are able to explain them . That I may praise Thee with Thy saints and with Thy angels Forever and ever Amen The em phasis on this Feast Day is Holy Com m union, the Eucharist. At Com m union we receive the True Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. W e are a gifted people, and this is an incredible gift to us. On this day especially we are called to focus on this gift. In Com m union we receive gifts that affect us both physically and spiritually. From a spiritual perspective we are united with Christ. Com m union should increase our love of God and of our neighbor. This is lived out in the action of stewardship. STEW ARDSHIP REFLECTION Today’s Gospel gives St. Mark’s account of Jesus gathering his disciples for a last supper, revealing to them a new covenant established through his own sacrificial blood. Every tim e we participate in the Eucharist, we m ake a pledge to renew and deepen our participation in Christ’s covenant in practical ways. For the steward, that m eans m aking daily, personal sacrifices to strengthen this covenant relationship such as deepening our relationship with the Lord in prayer, supporting our parish, and giving com fort to the poor. Now is a good tim e to reflect on what we can do to strengthen our covenant with the Lord and our com m unity in practical ways. -RCIA - W e will welcome a new group in the fall, and if you or som eone you know are interested in these RCIA form ation sessions please contact the parish office. -W eekly Programs for Adults 50+ at Rosary Hall: •Bible Sharing every Tuesday, 10:30 to 11:30am .
