From The Pastor’s Desk
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
of faith that God has given us.
Why not pray to the Holy Spirit
that great prayer/hymn we all
know from our youth:
The Birthday of the Church
Today, is Pentecost Sunday,
known as the birthday of the
Church. It was on that very first
Pentecost that Jesus sent the
Advocate, the Holy Spirit to the
beginning Christian community to
empower them to spread the
gospel and build up the body of
the new Church which He had
established at His Death and
Resurrection.
We often hear about the
relationship, the beautiful
connection between Father and
Son. Today we hear more about
the third person of the Blessed
Trinity: the Holy Spirit. The Holy
Spirit who comes upon the
disciples –seen as tongues of fire
to enlighten and give them the
strength and grace to evangelize
and spread the gospel to all who
might be open to hear the Word
of God!
From time to time, I have
spoken about working on the
prayer relationships that we have
with God. And, it does require
effort – just like a human
friendship, it requires work and
time. Now, that we are
celebrating this great Feast of
Pentecost, why not ask the Holy
Spirit to be with us – to be with
you – to give you strength – to
empower you and those you love
to be on fire with the great gift
Pentecost Sunday
Come Holy Spirit
Fill the hearts of your faithful and
Enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they
Shall be created and Thou
Shall renew the face of the earth.
Welcome Michael!
I want to officially welcome
Seminarian Michael Plona who
joined us the week of May 10.
Mike has just completed his
second year of theology at Saint
Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie,
New York. Mike will be with us
for ten weeks until July 19. If you
were at last Sunday’s Masses,
you heard Mike introduce himself.
He is very excited about being
assigned here to St Rosalie’s for
the summer. He will be assisting
Father Collins with the Youth
Group and also teaching at Our
Lady of the Hamptons as well as
visiting parishioners and assisting
in the many works of the parish in
his summer internship here. Please
welcome Mike when you see him
and keep him in your prayers.
Heartfelt Thanks
On this Memorial Day
weekend we give thanks for all
who have sacrificed life and limb
to protect our freedom to live in
freedom and justice and peace.
Even today with the war on
terror, we give thanks for those
who have led the way to protect
the freedom that all people of
good will recognize is a right
given to us by our God. Memorial
Day is a Day to remember and
give Thanks!
Happy Feast of Pentecost!

De la Homilía de Monseñor Romero el Día de Pentecostés –
¿Qué otra cosa da el Espíritu? ¡El don de predicar en todo el
universo!
