Doscher, Editor Bernie Beglane, Consultant The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ St. Rosalie’s Bulletin www.saintrosalie.com Page 3 From The Pastor’s Desk T oday throughout the world as Catholics we celebrate the great Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ in Latin: Corpus Christi! Let us first begin by giving thanks to God for the Gift of Himself in the Eucharist. When we speak of the Mass we speak of Christ’s Sacrifice, the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and our Communion with Him. Real Presence Today on this great Feast, I would like to focus on the Real presence of Christ! We as Catholics believe in the “REAL PRESENCE” of CHRIST in the EUCHARIST. What does the “Real Presence” actually mean? Over the years questions have been brought up regarding the meaning of the Eucharist. Karl Rahner, great theologian spoke about a “symbolic reality”. We can understand this as a Catholic believer as a “symbol not just a representation of a reality, but actually as presenting to us the reality. It is truly Christ’s Body and Blood!” Faith Seeking Understanding I remember as a high school boy asking how do I know I believe in the Eucharist? Have you ever wrestled with questions about your faith? I remember Brother Marcos, a Marist Brother at Archbishop Molloy High School pointing out to me the institution of the Eucharist narratives in the Gospels, and other passages in Scriptures. I would read these passages over and over. I knew that Jesus Christ has said: “Do this in Memory of Me”. I know that the priest took the elements of bread and wine, said the blessing (later in theology I learned this as the “epiclesis” – the invocation of the Holy Spirit to transform these gifts of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ!) But it wasn’t enough for my inquiring mind at the time. I even think I pondered this is really a searching to grow my faith. Perhaps like St. Anselm’s “faith seeking understanding”. I think I really just wanted to grow in my understanding of this great mystery. Our Example Brothers and Sisters, do you know what it really came down to? We know we believe by how we live! Yes we can pray over the Scriptures, we can study a lot of theology, but it is a miracle of our faith which needs to be embraced and entered into, not analyzed. Don’t get me wrong we need to take the time to question/to understand and to practice our faith. But the bottom line is: We know we believe by how we live, and by how we LOVE! Jesus gives us this gift for all of us to Live. Amen We are invited at Mass: The Body of Christ We respond: Amen. Yes Lord, I Believe. Thank you/ Gracias. We will continue to talk about the Eucharist including sacrifice and Communion. The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ St. Rosalie’s Parish Life: Please participate in the St. Rosalie’s parish Gala in some way: Buy a $100 raffle ticket and be eligible to win some $16,500 in prizes Buy a dinner ticket and enjoy the great food, fun and ambience Be a dinner sponsor ($5,000; $3,000;$1500; $500) to support St. Rosalie’s New this Year is the SILENT AUCTION. June 7, 2015 Page 6 www.saintrosalie.com St. Rosalie’s Bulletin Commitment! Dear Parents, guardians and grandparents of a child in the of ages 5-10, I am asking you to consider committing to have your child attend our VBE, Vacation Bible Experience, this summer. This is a fun, faith based program, involving crafts, music and activities. I am giving you the information to make a decision early. The reason I am asking for this early decision is because it helps me to know in advance what quantity is needed to order correctly and to solicit enough volunteers. In the past I ordered based on what I thought we would need to run the program and either have too much or too few needed items, materials and volunteers. I am hoping this commitment form will help to judge better. Dates: Monday – Friday, Either: July 13 – 17 OR August 17 - 21, 2015 Time: 9:30 – 11:30 Place: Community Center Cost: $30.00 for the week per child Your child should attend at least 3 of the 5 days to understand the theme and routine. I understand circumstances change day to day, but if you make this commitment I would appreciate you saving the dates on your calendar. We will need at least 30 children registered to run the program, but will be able to accommodate up to 60. Thank you for your consideration in helping us to offer this fun opportunity! If we have the minimum number committed, there will be a registration form to be completed before program begins. Please complete the following portion and return it to the RF office by Vacation Bible Experience Commitment Form I commit to have my children, (children’s names)__________________________ ______________________________________________________________ attend the VBE program in the summer of 2015. Ilustración © 2008 S. Erspamer. Printed from www.
