Our Diocese has reassigned Fr. Paul Flynn to
Our Lady of Guadalupe Delhi Parish in Santa Ana
beginning July 1st. We thank Fr. Paul for his service to St. Justin Parish and are grateful for his
commitment and dedication to our Faith and to the
people of St. Justin and Sacred Heart Mission.
Taking Fr. Paul’s place will be Fr. Domingo
Romero who is currently serving at St. Boniface
Parish.

Lustig are seminarians from the
Idaho Diocese of
Boise, who are
staying at our St.
Justin parish center, while interning as spiritual
chaplains at St.
Joseph Hospital
in Orange
through a program called CPE,
the Clinical Pastoral Education
Program.
Nathan Dail was born in Colfax, California but grew up in Moscow, Idaho. Before he experienced a profound call to the priesthood
in college he actively pursued a career in screenwriting and directing. In 2008, as a Junior in college at the University of Idaho, he
dropped out and moved to Connecticut where he entered a religious
community to begin preparation for the Priesthood. Since that time
he has studied the classical humanities and philosophy in Connecticut, New York and Rome, before being sent to enter a four-year
master's in Theology program at Mt Angel, Oregon. He just finished
his second year and after one year of apostolic ministries in California and southern Idaho, he will return to finish the last two years of
his studies before ordination.
Joseph Lustig is from Cottonwood, ID, where his family farms
wheat and runs cattle. He attributes his priestly vocation from an
early age to both his family and the dedicated community of that
area. He has finished his second year of theology and formation at
Mt. Angel Seminary, OR, where he especially enjoys discovering the
rich theology of the early Church Fathers. In his future ministry to
the Diocese of Boise, Joseph eagerly looks forward to spreading his
ardent love for Sacred Liturgy and to mediating God's mercy as a
divine physician in the Sacraments.

THE LORD OF LIFE
At this bountiful time of year, our Sunday
readings teem with life and abundance. Both the
first reading, from the book of Wisdom, and the
Gospel passage from Mark assure us that God did
not make death or even will us to be ill. Illness and
death entered the world through the presence of
evil, the Wisdom author tells us. Mark's stories of
Jesus healing a hemorrhaging woman and resuscitating a dead little girl make it clear that Jesus is
from God. As the Son of God he does not will that
anyone suffer illness or death. In the face of such
power, the second reading, from Paul's Second
Letter to the Corinthians, provides a stark contrast.
Jesus, who could raise the dead to new life,
"though he was rich, for your sake he became
poor" (2 Corinthians 8:9). Our gift of new life from

Universal Church Collection June 27-28
We are having a national collection for the Universal Church on June 27
-28, which combines the Catholic Relief Services Collection and the Peter’s
Pence Collection.
The mission of Catholic Relief Services is to assist the poor and disadvantaged by alleviating human suffering, promoting development of all people, and fostering charity and justice internationally. CRS aids the poor by
first providing direct assistance where needed, and then encouraging these
people to help with their own development.
Peter’s Pence promotes and supports the works of our Holy Father, enabling him to respond with emergency financial assistance to those who suffer
as a result of war, oppression and natural disasters throughout the world.
Envelopes are available in the pews. If you wish to donate, please put
your gift in one of the designated envelopes and place it in the basket along
with your Sunday donation.
Young Adult Retreat
The annual "Testify to Love" Young Adult Retreat on July 10th-12th is
almost here! This year's theme is "Fix my Eyes on You". Today is the last

hope you will join us for this weekend of reflection and fellowship.
Come hear young adults share their experiences and how they live their
Faith in today’s society. We will discuss topics such as relationships, reconciliation, prayer, God’s love, and community. The retreat will begin on Friday, July, 10, at 8:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Abbey in Valyermo, CA, and
conclude on Sunday after the 5:30 p.m. Mass at St. Justin’s. A donation of
$125 is requested, but financial assistance may also be available. If you have

Treasures from our Tradition
The premier poet of the English language,
Geoffrey Chaucer, introduced one of his most beloved characters, the "Wife of Bath," by this telling
remark: "Husbands at church door she had five."
Four times widowed, she was setting off on a pilgrimage, notably without number five. The church
door is a curious detail, pointing to the fourteenthcentury wedding custom of marrying on the porch
of the parish church. The goal was to give maximum publicity to the consent of the groom and
bride, and so consent was moved from the bride's
home to a public venue. The priest would stand in
the doorway and begin by sprinkling the couple
with holy water. He needed to make sure they
weren't too closely related and give them some
instruction. He would direct the groom to pay the
bride's family a dowry, and then announce the
monetary amounts to the interested passersby.
Only then would the guests enter the church for the
wedding Mass, during which the bride and groom
would hold lighted candles. The gradual move
from home to church and the shift from the bride's
father to the priest's authority helped to protect the
freedom of brides who weren't quite as confident

Summer Bible School for Grades 1-6
St. Justin Martyr Faith Formation for Children is offering a one week Summer
Bible School from July 6-10 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for children in grades 1-6.
This will be a time to get familiar with some of the stories in the Bible, to sing,
make crafts, pray and play. There is a $20.00 registration fee to cover the craft materials, snacks, and school supplies.
Please register immediately so that we will know if we will have enough
students to begin this program. We still have a few openings for students, please
register as soon as possible. For registration forms and information call the Faith

Por la primera vez en décadas los fuegos pirotécnicos son legales
en la ciudad de Anaheim. Ayuden a recaudar fondos para la Iglesia de
San Justino Mártir al comprar sus fuegos pirotécnicos en esta TNT en el
Honda Center. El Honda Center es la UNICA localidad en la ciudad de
Anaheim donde los fuegos pirotécnicos serán vendidos. La venta comienza el 28 de Junio, tres días antes de CUALQUIER OTRA LOCALIDAD. Traigan con ustedes el volante que se encuentra en la página 6
de este boletín a la localidad del HONDA CENTER SOLAMENTE.
Cuando hagan su compra, ellos van a escanear el volante y 30% de sus
ganancias regresaran a la iglesia. Pueden hacer copias y dar a sus
amigos y familiares, solo esté seguros de traerlo al HONDA CENTER
solamente, otros lugares no beneficiaran a la parroquia. No hay límite
del numero de volantes que puedan copiar, solo que el nombre de la
parroquia y el código de barras estén claramente legibles. También
tenemos volantes disponibles después de la misa, y en el vestíbulo y la
oficina parroquial. Díganles a sus amigos y vecinos – corran la voz.

Cumplir la misión de Dios para su vida
El seguro de salud de Dios
Sab 1:13-15; 2:23-24
Dios no causa ni quiere el mal ni la destrucción. Al crear el cielo y la
tierra, la muerte no entraba en sus planes o intenciones. La muerte es
consecuencia de la presencia del maligno que entró en el corazón humano. Es el primer pecado de Adán, y el segundo de Caín, los que confirman la presencia del mal en el mundo.
2 Cor 8:7-9, 13-15
Las preposiciones hyper (por) e hina (para) remiten a la obra salvífica.
La muerte de Cristo, su máxima pobreza, tuvo un sentido mirando a
nuestro bien. El extremo de generosidad de Jesús debe ser el paradigma
de toda actitud gratuita, generosa y solidaria donde se juegue de una u
otra manera la suerte de los hermanos.
Mc 5:21-24, 35-43
Jairo era un judío importante, jefe de la sinagoga. Jairo cree en el poder
de Jesús. Cuando éste dice que la niña no está muerta, hay un inicio de
burla, seguido de sorpresa. Jesús tiene poder para dar vida, y lo afirma
pidiendo que le den a la niña algo de comer.
Nuestra cultura
El cuidado por los demás y la solidaridad son marcas de la cultura hispana. En general, los hispanos se conmueven mucho ante casos de necesidad y siempre entran en acción para responder.
Reflexiones para la Homilía
A veces decimos ¡qué mal repartido está el mundo! Algunos tienen
mucho y otros no tienen nada. La diferencia entre ricos y pobres parece
hacerse cada vez más grande. Tal situación no releja a Dios de quien
somos imagen y semejanza. Dios es todo riqueza de amor y abundancia
de vida. Ciertamente, la diferencia no es lo que quiere Dios. No es la
justicia de Dios. La justicia de Dios se refiere, más bien, a lo que dice
Pablo a los Corintios en la segunda lectura de hoy: Aunque era rico, se
hizo pobre para que nosotros fuéramos ricos; es decir, la abundancia de
vida se derrama sobre la escasez. Dios no quiere la muerte, ni la escasez
para nadie, ni su destrucción; y, porque Dios no la quiere, Dios se derrama en vida y salud sobre toda enfermedad y muerte.
Al ser hechos a imagen y semejanza de Dios, a nosotros, ricos también por esa inmensa dignidad de ser imagen de Dios, también se nos
pide que nos derramemos en vida y salud sobre otros; es decir, que, desde nuestra abundancia (que no tiene por qué ser material, pero que podría
ser de abundantes dones espirituales), tiene que salir vida y salud para
los demás. ¿En qué lugares de nuestra vida y de la vida a nuestro alrededor falta salud? Allá donde las relaciones no estén tan claras; donde no
sean tan llenas de verdad, no estén limpias de amarguras, resentimientos,
envidias; allí donde el enojo parece que campea por sus respetos; allá
donde se ha perdido la confianza en el otro; allá donde la integridad o la
dignidad de alguien esté amenazada; allí donde la pereza o el vicio impidan el paso del bien. En todos esos lugares no hay salud y es ahí donde
hay que llevar la riqueza de la vida y la salud de Dios. Dondequiera que
exista un desequilibrio de relaciones, falta la salud y hay pobreza, y se
desdibuja la imagen de Dios. Es ahí donde tenemos que escuchar la voz
de Cristo que llama: “¡Levántate!” Aunque algunos se rían y digan que
es imposible. No estamos muertos y la voz nos llega. Si de verdad nos
queremos levantar, lo haremos a su voz. Una vez levantados, sanos, en
camino, tenemos que “darle algo de comer” a esta vida restaurada. Tendremos que continuar cuidando y alimentando una recta relación. “Darle
de comer” a nuestra nueva vida significa cuidar los momentos de oración
y los momentos de atención a la familia. Significa salir de nosotros mismos para dar salud, consuelo y apoyo a otros en sus necesidades. Significa unirnos cada vez más a la vida de Dios. Dejarle entrar en nuestra casa
y escucharle decir, una y otra vez: levántate.
Para la reflexión: ¿Qué aspectos de mi vida personal y familiar no
parecen muy saludables? ¿Cómo puedo sanarlos?

2 Tim 4:6-8, 17-18
Pablo se compara a una libación sacrificial y está a punto de ser derramado. Su sangre será pronto derramada. El lenguaje metafórico
continúa al hablar de su muerte como “la hora de mi partida”. Continúa con la metáfora atlética “he corrido y me espera la corona…”
Pablo siente que ha quedado solo, pero protegido por Dios. Dios no
lo abandonó.
Nuestra cultura: Se transmiten los valores de padres a hijos por
medio de historias y anécdotas. Los valores, las tradiciones, son quienes nos dicen quiénes somos.
Hoy celebramos la fiesta de San Pedro y San Pablo, primeros
apóstoles y columnas de la Iglesia; pero también celebramos la fiesta
de todos nosotros, a quien Jesús ha preguntado: ¿Quién dices que
soy? También ha preguntado: ¿quién eres? ¿Quiénes somos para
Jesús hoy? El cómo respondemos a las dos preguntas nos da la medida de quiénes somos en realidad. Al responderle a Él que es el Hijo
de Dios, el Mesías, reconocemos la fuente de toda vida, amor y salvación. Al respondernos a nosotros mismos que somos hijos amados
de Dios, reconocemos en nosotros mismos la participación en esa
fuente de vida y salvación también. Eso nos obliga a dar vida a nuestro alrededor, es decir, servicio, amor, alegría. Nos obliga, como a
Pablo, a “correr” y hacer la buena carrera de Cristo. Nos obliga, como a Pedro, a asumir la responsabilidad por la comunidad, y a ser
rocas de fe donde se pueda apoyar nuestra familia y nuestra comunidad.
Indiferencia ecológica: un camino al suicidio colectivo
Continua
Nadie puede hoy garantizar seriamente la supervivencia de la
especie, por mucho que nos inquiete. El Protocolo de Kyoto y las
cumbres sobre ecología donde los jefes de estado esbozan, muchas
veces, un discurso moralizador, lleno de buenas intenciones, no tienen efectos reales sobre las situaciones problemáticas, ni siquiera
sobre aquéllas más evidentes catástrofes en potencia y en acto. La
cuestión de fondo se reduce, pues, a ésta: ¿qué hacer hoy, nosotros
los católicos, para mantener sano y salvo a nuestro planeta? Desde
una nueva serenidad ecoteológica, debemos caer en cuenta de que,
como obra de Dios por pura gracia, la creación no ha de deteriorarse
a causa de nuestra indiferencia. Es más, no ha de ser martirizada por
las personas que la habitan y la gozan; sino, más bien, ha de ser la
casa de la vida desde la gratuidad del Dios de la Vida.
Así, luchemos todos por una creación sin explotación desenfrenada, violencia y destrucción programada de la naturaleza. En resumen, una creación coherente es aquella en que la expresión del Creador en el libro del Génesis de “someterla” y “dominarla” significa
cuidarla, hacerla productiva, hacer uso de ella de manera apropiada
y, sobre todo, amarla. La creación es, simplemente, el Poder de Dios
en nuestras manos.
Destruirla es como cortar la rama del árbol en el cual se está
sentado. Seguir violentándola es elaborar la crónica de un suicidio
colectivo anunciado.
Todos los jóvenes adultos entre las edades de 18 a 29
años son invitados a nuestro retiro anual “testifica al Amor”
del 10 al 12 de julio. Este año el tema es “Fija mis ojos en ti.”
Pueden encontrar la aplicación para este retiro en la página
de internet de San Justino Mártir. Esperamos que nos puedan
acompañar para este fin de semana de reflexión y compañerismo.
