PARISH Mission Statement
We, the family of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish, are called by virtue of our baptism and guided by the Holy Spirit to be
disciples of Jesus. As disciples of Jesus,
we are dedicated to foster the growth of
God’s Kingdom on earth by praising
God and living the Gospel values of love,
justice, forgiveness and service to all.

Reading 1 Wisdom 2:12,17-20
When a person always does what is right, he or she can become the target of sharp criticism. The author of Wisdom describes "the just one" who suffers the insults of the wicked. Because he pointed out their wrongdoing, the wicked are determined
to make the just one suffer. They sarcastically predict that even if
they condemn him to death, God will take care of him.
Christians see in this reading a description of Jesus. Even when he
was insulted, tortured, and put to death, he did not strike back at
the wicked. He prayed that his Father would forgive them. In doing
so, Jesus gave us an example of how to entrust ourselves to God's
care especially in times of trouble or persecution.
Reading 2 Reflection James 3:16-4:3
In this reading, we hear the voice of a just one who spells out the
consequences of sinful behavior. James encourages Christians to
show by their actions that they have "wisdom from above." The
wise do not act out of jealousy or selfish striving after their own
way. They are peace loving, gentle, forgiving, and kind. They understand that by working for peace they help bring about justice in the
world.
By praying daily for the wisdom from above, we will be people of
peace and justice. We will do our part to rid the world of war and
violence of every kind.
Gospel Mark 9:30-37 Gospel Reflection
When people suspect that something bad is about to happen, fear sometimes causes them to stick their heads in the sand and pretend that everything will remain the same. When Jesus tried to tell his disciples
about how he would soon suffer and die, they were afraid to ask him
any questions. They acted as though everything would stay the same.
They even argued about who was the greatest among them. So Jesus
corrected them by saying that whoever wanted to be the greatest would
have
to
be
the
servant
of
all.
Embracing a small child, Jesus told the disciples, "Whoever welcomes
a child such as this welcomes me." He wanted them to understand that
they were to be willing servants with the childlike qualities of innocence, honesty, and lack of pretension. Jesus identified himself with the
innocent child who is completely dependent on God.
Discussion Questions for Reading 1
Why do you think a person who always does what is
right may be resented by others? Describe some of the
ways in which people might respond to a well-behaved
person who pointed out their misbehavior. How do you
think sarcasm and insults affect those who are trying to
do the right thing? How would you describe the example Jesus the Just One gives us? Name one way you
will try to follow that example.
Discussion Questions for Reading 2
How many qualities of the wisdom from above does
James name? What are they? What is his answer to the
question about where conflicts and disputes begin?
What are some of the causes of envy and jealousy
among people ? What are the results of envy and jealousy?
Find the statement in which James points to the connection between peace and justice. Give an example of
how you, your family, or your friends have cultivated
peace.
Discussion Questions for Gospel
What kinds of bad news at home or at school might people not
want to face? Do you think it is better to act as though everything will be alright, or to ask questions about what might
happen? Why? In what ways have you ever been involved in
arguments about "Who's the greatest?" Find the sentence in
the gospel reading that gives Jesus' point of view on being the
greatest. What qualities of small children do you admire? How
do you know how Jesus felt about children? Why is it important for all of us to protect and care for children? Name one
way you will practice a childlike trust in God.

Dear Parishioners of St. Rose of Lima:
It is our pleasure as the Finance Council to present to the community of St. Rose the Final Annual Statement for fiscal 2014-2015. We want to thank you for your generosity in supporting our
shared Christian mission. Despite modestly lower offerings the budget ended in the black by
controlling expenses. Because of your support, during the year on-going repair, maintenance
and renovation of our aging facilities continued. Our ministries and Catholic outreach were sustained. Challenges and opportunities continue, but because of your support our finances are
solid. Should you have questions please contact anyone on the Council. Thank you and Many
Blessings!
Respectfully submitted,
John Pittman, Kathy Kossick, Craig Collins, Christine Amurao, Duff Watson

This Week’s Liturgy September 20, 2015
The Joy of the Gospel
Spirit-filled evangelizers means evangelizers fearlessly open to the working of the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost,
the Sprit made the apostles go forth from themselves and turned them into heralds of God’s wondrous deeds,
capable of speaking to each person in his or her own language. The Holy Spirit also grants the courage to proclaim the newness of the Gospel with boldness in every time and place, even when it meets with opposition. Let us call upon him, today,
firmly rooted in prayer, for without prayer all our activity risks being fruitless and our message empty. Jesus wants evangelizers who proclaim the good news not only with words, but above all by a life transfigured by God’s presence.

As you can see, we are FULL UP!!! There is no more room. We are making an effort to contact all of our “Business Parishioners”
who advertise, to consider advertisements in our Parish Bulletin.
Our goal is to add at least 20 new advertisers in order to add two more pages!
Please continue supporting all who advertise in our bulletin.
We are thankful for all who participate in this Advertising Program!
ADVERTISERS NEEDED ….. PLEASE Consider us
The advertisers make it possible for the bulletin to be provided to us at no charge.
The bulletin cost is funded by the advertisers.
If you are a business owner and wish to support the expansion please call Deborah at the Parish Office 916-783-5211 ext. 7008.
JSP is offering a special discounted rate should you wish to advertise .
This month we are introducing a new and exciting way for you to support our parish offertory and second collections: FAITH DIRECT: Faith Direct enables parishioners to make their Church contributions through either direct debit from your checking/savings account or through your credit/
debit card. No more writing checks or searching for envelopes on the way out the door. Now you can apply the
convenience of direct debit to your parish offerings in much the same way as you may now use it to make your
mortgage, car or tuition payments.
Faith Direct also offers you personalized offertory cards to replace your envelopes for the collection basket.
Please join in enrolling by responding to the mailing you may have received, or you may go on line and visit
Www.faithdirect.net to enroll securely on line, or go to our web-site. Our Parish Code is CA701.
“eGiving through Faith Direct “ The Faith Direct program gives you:
•
Faith Direct provides the critical third party security needed for this new way of parish support: this limits
the liability for our parish and keeps your information in secure hands.
How does it work?
•
You can visit faithdirect.net and enroll securely online or use our secure Faith Direct connection on our website.
•
You can elect to have your specified bank or credit card account debited on either the 4th or 15th of the month for both offertory and any second collections
•
Parishioners can elect to receive “offertory cards” in lieu of envelopes to be placed in the collection basket.
A few other considerations:
Many of you have requested we put this type of program in place: I have complete confidence in Faith Direct and will be enrolling myself.
•
As a parish, we can collectively go “green” by eliminating the many wasteful envelopes that go unused.
•
There is no charge to parishioners for enrolling. In fact, every family signing up with Faith Direct means one less package of envelopes to print
and mail out – and that will mean savings for St. Rose of Lima, which we can use to further expand our ministries throughout our community.
•
We consider Faith Direct to be a “win-win” program for both parishioners and our parish. I strongly encourage you to enroll in this
program today. I am grateful for your financial and prayerful support of our parish.

Creating your Legacy
What is Legacy Stewardship?
“Legacy stewardship has to do with being a good steward to all the gifts God has
entrusted to us. This means being a good steward to our families, our spouses, our
children, and our church parish ministries and doing the proper planning to be a good
steward to them after we are gone.”
St. Rose and The Catholic Foundation are hosting a
Workshop to share Planning Guidelines
for your Legacy.
Topics to be covered:
♦ Planning the Future - Where there’s a Will, there’s a Way
Very simply, if you don’t make provisions for distributing your assets, the

♦ If You Already Have a Will

♦ Have you considered leaving a gift to your Parish?
Stewardship Gifts can be left to the Church, Parish, or Parish Ministry
Charitable Gift Annuities – How to make a charitable gift to your favorite
ministry, get a tax write off, and receive income for life.
