If you have a registered parishioner to add to
our prayer list, please contact the executive assistant
in the parish office. Please let us know when it is
time to remove a name from the list. Please
inscribe the names of non-parishioners (e.g. family
members, friends, neighbors, co-workers) in the
prayer intention book found in the church vestibule.
Please inscribe their name only once as their
needs will be remembered at Masses throughout the
year.
If you are hospitalized or homebound and would
like to receive Communion, please call Pat & Gary
Boylan at 941-204-7837.
You may also contact someone from the
Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy who will pray
the Chaplet of Divine Mercy or other prayers with
you. Please call Lillian Pente at 843-705-7170.
We begin this Church year as we left the last one—
with a description of the signs that will come before
Christ appears. But where Mark warns of the coming
judgment for the enemies of God, Luke, with great
subtlety,
shifts
the nuance so
that people will
hear the hope of
salvation. “Stand
erect and raise
your head,” he
calls out. At the
end
of
the
Church year, we
meditate on Christ’s coming in glory to judge the living
and the dead. In the beginning, we remember the
Incarnation: God’s emptying himself to become fully
human and to come into the world. Both events are
heralded by and will mean great change for us and for
the world.
Change happens when God breaks into the world,
regardless of the time. In account after account in the
Bible, we watch as God visits people and changes their
names (Abraham and Peter), their lives (Jeremiah, the
apostles, the woman at the well), and heals their
separation and brokenness (the blind man, the
paralytic, and Lazarus). Also, sinners are punished
(Dives and Jezebel) and landscapes are altered
(Isaiah’s vision of valleys lifted up and mountains laid
low). This saving action continues throughout history,
especially within the Church and among the saints.
Advent is a time to remember that Christ came to
change the world and each of us. Have we allowed
ourselves to be changed? Are we willing to be shaped
by the hand of God, called by a different name, and
given a place in Christ’s mission? Let’s hope so
because, ready or not, here he comes.

caminos
(Salmo 25 [24]).
Romanos 15: 7

THEME: Laudato Si And Me!
The latest frontier in Catholic Social Thought is that of
concern for the care for our ‘common home.’ What does
the Church, in general, and Pope Francis, in particular,
have to say on this crucial topic? This is the question
that will be explored in this presentation. Along the way,
we will locate the words of the Pontiff within the overall
tradition of Catholic Social Thought and show how
concern for our earthly home is not only a ‘nice thing to
do,’ but an imperative of the Gospel.

PARISH LIFE
Looking for a way to keep Christ in
Christmas for your family? Assign one
family member to light the candles of an
advent wreath daily, saying the following
prayers. Use your advent wreath during
dinner or at prayer time.
First Week (light 1 purple candle)
All-powerful God, increase our strength of will for
doing good that Christ may find an eager welcome at
his coming and call us to his side in the kingdom of
heaven, where he lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit one God, forever and ever. ~AMEN.
Second Week (light 2 purple candles)
God of power and mercy open our hearts in
welcome. Remove the things that hinder us from
receiving Christ with joy so that we may share his
wisdom and become one with him when he comes in
glory, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, forever and ever. ~AMEN.
“ALOHA, CHRISTMAS!”
The St. Gregory the Great School Christmas
Musical will be presented on

home, they realize it’s going to be a different kind of
Christmas.
This delightful program, written by Dave Noel and Jeff
Sandstrom, will be sure to put all of us in the Christmas
spirit.
Pre-school & our school’s new Tonechime Choir will
keep you delightfully entertained!
Come get into the spirit!
This Program is Our Gift to You!
Free of charge for all attending.
Third Week (light 2 purple candles and one pink
candle)
Lord God, may we, your people, who look forward to
the birthday of Christ experience the joy of salvation
and celebrate that feast with love and thanksgiving.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. ~AMEN.
Fourth Week (light all four candles)
Father, all-powerful God, your eternal Word took
flesh on our earth when the Virgin Mary placed her
life at the service of your plan. Lift our minds in
watchful hope to hear the voice which announces his
glory and open our minds to receive the Spirit who
prepares us for his coming. We ask this through
Christ our Lord. ~AMEN.

CATHOLIC BOOK CLUB
MEETING
The
next
meeting
of
the
CATHOLIC BOOK CLUB will be
held on Friday, December 11, from
9:30-11:00 AM. The selection for reading is Father
James Martin, SJ, "Jesus: A Pilgrimage." We will
discuss the Introduction and Chapters 1 through 5,
which give historical background and trace events in
the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary from the
Annunciation through the Baptism of the Lord. The
readings tie in with the Advent-Christmas season as
we trace the journey of a contemporary Jesuit through
the Holy Land.
Note: the January 8, 2016, meeting will feature the
work entitled "Woman," by Edith Stein (Sister
Benedicta of the Cross, OCD). This work is included
in collection of her writings but also in free- standing
editions which can be found through online book
sellers.

PRAYER FOR ADVENT
Look on us, Jesus and let
all darkness of our souls
disappear before the beams
of your brightness.
Fill us with your holy love,
and open to us
the treasures of your wisdom.
You know all our desire,
so bring to perfection
what you have started,
and what the Holy Spirit
has wakened us to ask in prayer.
We seek your face,
turn your face to us
and show us your glory.
Then our longing will be satisfied
and our peace will be perfect. Amen
-St. Augustine
Oplatki
The tradition of the Oplatki
originated in Poland during Early
Christian times.
These wafers are shared at your
Christmas dinner. The significance of
the Oplatki Christmas wafer is in that it
shadows the Eucharistic meal that Catholics participate in
at each Mass. Just as we share in the Eucharist as one
family in Christ and receive Christ’s love through the
Eucharist, the Oplatki allows for one’s immediate family to
come together and share the love they have for one
another.
If you are not familiar with this tradition, perhaps you
would enjoy starting this tradition with your family. The
Oplatki wafers are available in the Parish Office for $1.00
each. Limited supply.

La imagen de Nuestra Señora de
Guadalupe

peregrinar
se
promueve

CHRISTIAN OUTREACH
Will you help us
help the needy
through the winter?
Look around you. Here in church today there are almost 150 Vincentians, people who make personal visits to
the homes of the needy. But we can't do it without you!
Calls come in on our "Help Line" from families who have been blind-sided by some emergency, and now
they're in crisis. They need food, rent, utilities, or even a part for their car so they can get to work.
Winter can be the worst. Employment in our area goes down. Needs stay the same...or go up. All it takes is
some unexpected event to trigger a sudden need. And the calls come in. We respond in person, two of us at a
time. We listen to their stories, verify the facts, and try to redirect their lives.
But we can't do it without you! Yet WITH you, we (you!) can make the difference between a family's triumph of
starting a new life...or the tragedy of sliding into perpetual poverty.
Please look in your packet of envelopes. Notice on Nov. 29th, you are being asked to help the needy get
through the winter. Please give them the generous response that you always do. Many thanks!
