A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
St. James teaches that those who are poor in the eyes of society
are the ones who have been chosen to inherit the Kingdom of
God. Indeed, we are saved because of our poverty; we are redeemed out of our need; not because of our material wealth or
achievements that the world finds praiseworthy. St. James also
suggests that we are stewards of others, especially the poor; and
it is how we respond to the poor and needy that will define our
relationship with the Lord. How do we respond to the less
fortunate right within our own parish?

Bereavement Support Group - September 12
This fall, 2,000 children and teens, will sign up to learn more about Jesus and the
Catholic faith and 500 will be prepared for the sacraments. At this time, we have
many but not enough catechists or core team members to facilitate sessions.
YOU can share your faith by becoming a catechist for Faith Formation (RE). We
provide you with training, materials, and support. If the Holy Spirit is calling you or
if you would like more information, go to www.saintwilliams.org/catechist.
Saint William will offer a Catholic bereavement support group beginning September 12. This is a series of eight sessions meeting on Saturday mornings at
10a.m. in the Religious Education Building Room 13. If you or someone you
know could benefit from these self-help sharing sessions, please contact Debbie
George at 512-600-8158 or [email protected]. Debbie is a member of
the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and has been facilitating grief
groups for 10 years at Saint William.

TWENTY-THIRD IN ORDINARY TIME
Saint Vincent’s Corner
In today’s Gospel we hear how Jesus “makes the deaf hear and the mute speak!” In living the gospel, we must
open our ears to hear and recognize all the everyday opportunities for making God’s presence known especially
to those who are poor and suffering.
Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that
together we can “make God’s presence known” to those who are suffering and poor? For more
information about the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, please visit www.svdprr.org.
Marriage - Why God's Design
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing
her by the bath of water with the word, that he might present to himself the church in splendor that she might be holy
and without blemish. So also husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves
himself. For no one hates his own flesh but rather nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ does the church, because
we are members of his body. For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and
the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the church.

Cardinal O’Malley: Planned Parenthood’s Work Reflects ‘Throwaway Culture’ Decried
By Pope Francis
Excerpt of Cardinal O’Malley’s statement follows: “Pope Francis calls abortion the product of a
‘widespread mentality of profit, the throwaway culture, which has today enslaved the hearts and
minds of so many.’ The recent news concerning Planned Parenthood directs our attention to two
larger issues involving many institutions in our society. The first is abortion itself - a direct attack
on human life in its most vulnerable condition. The second is the now standard practice of
obtaining fetal organs and tissues through abortion. Both actions fail to respect the humanity and
dignity of human life. This fact should be the center of attention in the present public
controversy.” http://www.usccb.org/news/2015/15-117.cfm
September Prayer Vigil for Life—September 19
The Austin Prayer Vigil for Life will be on Saturday, September 19, at St. Elizabeth of

Blessed Sacrament will continue after Mass for those not traveling to PP site. Refreshments will

While driving home from a stressful day, you realize you still need to get the
poster board at the store for your son's project due tomorrow. Still frustrated that
you just heard about it at breakfast this morning, you begrudgingly make your
way through the store. At the checkout you mask your frustration with a kind
voice and a smile to the store clerk and be on your way. As you enter your
house, are you even more kind to those that greet you or do you give in to the
frustration? I encourage you this month, as you strive to be a touch of grace to
those around you, to love your family fiercely, as they deserve the kindest smile
of anyone you know. Journey with the women of Saint William with the Touch of
