SAINT MARY’S AND SAINT CHARLES BORROMEO PARISHES Parroquias de Santa María y San Carlos Borromeo September 20, 2015 / 20 d e Sep tiem bre d e 2015 Vigésimo Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario My brothers and sisters in Christ, Pope Francis will be the third Pope to visit Cuba this weekend, after Saint John Paul II in 1998 and Pope Benedict XVI in 2012. What a great grace. From most reports and from my what I saw when I was in Cuba a couple of years ago, the Catholic Faith was almost wiped out by the evil caused by the Castro brothers. When Raul Castro said he might consider returning to the Church, I thought I would not want to have to do his penance or face his time in purgatory. Yet the faith was not entirely extinguished. The visit of Saint John Paul II planted a seed that has resulted in the opening of a Seminary and eased tensions between the Church and State. Let us pray for the Holy Father and Cardinal O’Malley who will be accompanying Francis on the first part of Pope Francis’ first visit to Cuba and the United States. I recommend that you follow the television coverage of all the papal events on Catholic TV and EWTN. – Fr. Michael ENGLISH CLASSES New Vistas, an adult education program, offers English classes for adults (formerly ESL) in St. Mary’s Religious Education building. Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 20, 2015 SAINT MARY PARISH PARISH FAIR This Sunday is our Parish Fair. There are many groups, organizations and ministries that make up Saint Mary’s. See the list of participants below. Most of them are not always visible on Sunday but they work throughout the week to keep the parish running and allow us to serve the Lord and His people. Please visit the different tables and consider helping out or giving your time where possible. We need people to involve themselves in the work of God. We also do not want the same people “doing everything”. New blood is good for the body. This day is designed for you to meet people who are doing holy work in the hopes that you might feel called to join in that work. We also invited some organizations such as the local funeral homes and a voter registration group to help our parishioners gain information and help with issues affecting daily life. There will be coffee and refreshments for both adults and families. My thanks to everyone who will be at the tables and all who make the charitable and religious work of the parish happen everyday. CORI FORM RENEWAL AT PARISH FAIR This Sunday’s Fair will include a table where every minister or parish volunteer can renew their CORI form. This is a mandate of the Archdiocese and the Commonwealth. Please fill out both sides of the form and answer all the questions otherwise the form gets sent back to us. CORI forms will be at all the tables. There will be one table where your form can be verified with your photo ID. Thanks for your cooperation. MASS INTENTIONS Masses intentions scheduled this week are listed below. ST FRANCIS DAY OCTOBER 4 – SAVE THE DATE This year, October 4, the Feast of St. Francis falls on a Sunday. This year, Pope Francis, who took the name of the saint, has written an encyclical Laudato Si (Praise Be to You) that calls us to see and grow in relation with Our Creator and Lord with the help of St. Francis. In light of this we want to invite all of the parishioners and friends to come to a Blessing of the Animals and a cookout at 4:00 p.m. on that afternoon. It will not be a Mass so we all need to attend Mass at the regular times. Please save the date. Please invite others with animals to attend. We would also like to invite the Poor Clares, Franciscans, and Third Order Franciscans to join us and possibly educate us on their works and charism. If you are connected with them in any way, please let us know by contacting the parish office. We can invite them or you can invite them yourself. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM (ASP) The After School Program has begun! We encourage all parents to register their children. The children benefit greatly; they need to be helped and watched in the after school hours. Please know that we are always looking for new volunteers to commit one hour a week to help the children. The commitment is on any weekday from 3:45-5:00 p.m. Please call the After School phone number 781-577-2262 to register your child or discuss volunteering. Please pray for this program! 4 MASS INTENTIONS Masses intentions scheduled this week are listed below. Please find the full Mass Schedule on page 6. Freedman ST. VINCENT DE PAUL In today’s Gospel Jesus called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Taking a child, he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.” Your donation in the St. Vincent de Paul poor box or pantry basket will help hungry children feel the arms of Jesus around them. Lord, set our hearts on fire with compassion for the “least of all,” so that we may suffer with those who suffer. Lord, give us the grace to hear the cries of the poor, so that we may be a servant of the most oppressed. Lord, help us to listen to the “signs of the times,” so that we may respond to the call for justice in our world. Amen THANK YOU MIKE Our sexton, Michael Welch once again polished the floors of the Church a couple weeks ago. Wow! What a job and what a result. It makes you wonder what the halls of Heaven look like. P.
