ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

A Letter from Our
Cathedral Rector
Dear Parishioners,
The second-to-last weekend in August, I had the privilege of
leading a “come and see” trip for some members of our Little
Flowers of St. Therese girls’ intercessory prayer group to visit
the Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Los Angeles in
Alhambra, California.
These Carmelite sisters have become very good friends of our
diocese in recent years, particularly the former superior, Sr.
Regina Marie, who has spoken at various diocesan events
ranging from the Men’s Conference, the Women’s Conference
and the Cathedral’s own Eucharistic Congress.
It was wonderful, not only to see the wonder of our girls as
they encountered the sisters, but also the joy and fidelity of the
sisters, whose active apostolate focuses primarily on education
and healthcare.
Various sisters hosted a dinner and game night the night of our
arrival; others led our group on tours of the retreat center
grounds and the healthcare facilities; gave talks on Carmelite
spirituality in general, and this Carmelite community in
particular; put us to work in the kitchen as they hosted a men’s
retreat; and introduced us to many of their residents who we
assisted in getting to Sunday Mass. It was the perfect blend of
prayer, fun and work with some very faith-filled and holy ladies.

are interested in learning more about the Little Flowers of

In today’s Gospel Jesus says “If a
man wishes to come after me, he must
deny his very self, take up his cross, and
follow in my steps.”
Is there a neighbor or friend of yours who is in temporary
need because of loss of job or because of illness? Please
leave a message for the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul...we want to help! Just this Sunday, there was a
man who had gone to Mass, came out with a few
groceries from Food City and was searching through the
garbage for a paper cup so that he could add some water
to his RAMEN and eat it right there. Our SVdP Pantry
offered him some help.
He had recently become
homeless and was so grateful. Together we can help the
poor and needy people who “still trust in God’s love.”

Each year the priests of the Diocese of Phoenix take
time to pray and meet at the annual Priest Convocation.
This year, the convocation will take place from
September 14-17. In order for our priests to attend,
there will be no Mass for the following days and times:

Una Carta de Nuestro

Estimados Feligreses:
El penúltimo fin de semana de agosto tuve el privilegio de guiar un
viaje de “ven y aprende” para algunos miembros de nuestro grupo
de oración de mediación de niñas de Santa Teresa llamados
Pequeñas Flores para que visitaran a las hermanas Carmelitas del
Sagrado Corazón de Los Ángeles en Alhambra, California.
Estas hermanas Carmelitas se han convertido en buenas amigas de
nuestra diocesis en años recientes, en particular la madre superiora
anterior, Madre Regina Marie, quien ha hablado en varios eventos
diocesanos oscilando desde la Conferencia de Hombres, la
Conferencia de Mujeres y el Congreso Eucarístico de la propia
Catedral.
Fue increíble! No tan solo ver que maravilladas estuvieron nuestras
niñas cuando vieron a las hermanas, pero también el gozo y la
fidelidad de las Hermanas, las cuales enfocan su apostolado
mayormente en la educación y cuidado de salud.
Varias hermanas hicieron una cena y noche de juegos el dia que
llegamos; otras guiaron a nuestro grupo a un recorrido del campo
de centro de retiro y a sus instalaciones de cuidado de salud; nos
dieron una charla de la espiritualidad de las Carmelitas en general
y de la comunidad Carmelita en particular, nos pusieron a trabajar
en la cocina mientras que atendían el retiro de hombres; y nos
presentaron a muchos de los residentes a los cuales ayudamos a
asistir a la misa del domingo. Fue una mezcla perfecta de oración,
diversión y trabajo con unas damas muy llenas de fe y santidad.
Estas son algunas fotos de nuestro fin de semana lleno de gracia!

DE LA CATEDRAL
¿Alguna vez has pensado en unirse al
coro de la Catedral de Phoenix? Los
ensayos comienzan la próxima
semana, así que programen su
audición con el Director de Música
Sacra en la actualidad.
Si tiene alguna anuncios del boletín, ahora puede
enviarlos directamente a ella. Por favor, recuerde enviar
el contenido de su anuncio por lo menos 2 semanas antes
de que usted desea que el anuncio aparezca en el boletín

SAN VICENTE DE PAUL
En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús dice:
"Si un hombre quiere venir en pos de mí,
niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz,
y seguir mis pasos."
¿Hay un vecino o un amigo suyo que está en necesidad
temporal debido a la pérdida del puesto de trabajo o por
enfermedad? Por favor, deje un mensaje para la Sociedad
de San Vicente de Paul ... queremos ayudar! Apenas este
domingo, había un hombre que había ido a Misa, salió
con un par de tiendas de comestibles de la ciudad de
Alimentos y buscaba en la basura de un vaso de papel
para que pudiera añadir un poco de agua para su ramen
y comer allí mismo. Nuestra SVdP Despensa le ofreció
ayuda. Se había convertido recientemente sin hogar y
estaba tan agradecido. Juntos podemos ayudar a las
personas pobres y necesitados que "todavía confían en el
amor de Dios."
