ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

BOOKS & GIFTS
Fr. Lankeit’s BOOK OF THE MONTH:
Lord of the World by Robert Hugh Benson
In this profound and prophetic novel, Monsignor Robert
Hugh Benson gives us an imaginative foretelling of the
end of the world. But what of the end that terminates
all human action as we know it, the end of time itself,
the Second Coming? Since this novel appeared in 1906,
many others have been devoted to nuclear disaster,
destructive comets, and other hair-raising possibilities.
What sets Benson’s story apart and makes it as
readable today as when it was written is the Catholic
and biblical context that provides the ultimate
meaning. Lord of the World is first of all a tremendous
“read,” but it is also spiritual food for thought!

Ever wonder if the life of a Religious Sister or Nun is for
you? You are invited to come to a FIAT Discernment
Morning for Women on Saturday, September 5th at the
Diocesan Pastoral Center at 400 E Monroe Street,
Phoenix. The morning will begin with Mass at 9 a.m. with
Fr. Paul Sullivan in the Chapel.
After Mass we will gather in a room in the DPC where
there will be talks about Prayer and the Consecrated Life
with Sisters from different orders who will share their
wisdom and counsel. After their brief talks, we will have
a Q&A session. There will be a light breakfast with coffee,
tea, bagels and pastries. Those from ages 13-35 are
welcome.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
In this Gospel, the love that Jesus reveals through the symbol of the cross is: self-giving, sacrifice,
healing, forgiving, in solidarity with the weak, and confident in the power of God.
During the hot summer months, many of the elderly, especially those who are sick, are not able to find
relief from the heat. Please help the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to bring respite and hope to them.
We do this by helping them with a small amount of utility help to keep their air conditioners running.
Please continue to bring bags of food with you to Mass and drop them in the SVdP Food Boxes in the rear of the
Church. We always need items such as cereal, peanut butter, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, beans and rice, canned
beans or chili, canned vegetables, RAMEN, Mac and Cheese, canned meat, tuna and also toilet paper. Thank you so
much for the love and mercy you give to our poor brothers and sisters. May the Lord bless you and your families
abundantly!

TIENDA DE
LIBROS Y REGALOS
DE LA CATEDRAL
Padre Lankeit LIBRO DEL MES:
sentido final. Señor del Mundo es ante todo una
tremenda “lectura”, ¡pero también es alimento espiritual
para el pensamiento! ¡Sólo $13.99!
