March 15, 2015 4th Sunday of Lent Holy Name of Mary Parish Serving San Dimas and La Verne and surrounding communities Staffed by the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary “I found the grace and mercy of Jesus to be liberating.” (Robert Raymond) Page 2 Holy Name of Mary Parish My dear sisters and brothers, Since this was addressed to all of us I thought it would be good to share it with you. Dear Holy Name of Mary Parish, My name is Robert Raymond and I’m writing from Soledad Prison. On March 3, 2014, after an eternity of on/off chemical addiction, I was baptized into the Catholic faith and accepted the Holy Spirit into my life. On that day I finally vowed to put a stop to the madness of abuse. Since then I cannot praise God enough for the way in which His hand has been at work for me, especially through my most challenging times. On January 3rd of this year my mother passed away, quite suddenly, after learning of terminal cancer only four months cancer. She had plans to visit on my one-year sobriety date, which would have been the first time we’d see each other when I was clean and sober – in almost 22 years. I have been doing my Narcotics Anonymous steps, currently working step #9, making amends. As I write those many I’ve wronged, to make direct amends, I realize I cannot afford the postage required to send those letters. Mom was my sole support outside these walls. My chaplain gave me some post-paid envelopes, suggesting I reach out to a few Catholic churches and construe my predicament. I have decided to contact those parishes close to home. I grew up in the Montclair area a couple of blocks from Garey Avenue. I am writing to ask for your assistance. Please, if you can find a place in your heart to help me with a book of (20) stamps, would help me immensely. I do not seek money because I only need to send 20 -30 letters of amends. My chapel blessed me with envelopes and writing paper, so I’m half way there. I’ve found the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ to be liberating and feel like I’m now being guided through the ways of His healing. Praying your life is filled with happiness and joy. Robert N. Raymond For me the first thing I did was to personally send him a card and some stamps. The words of Jesus “When I was in prison, you visited me.” There are many ways today to visit: physical presence, text, email, snail mail, Facebook, etc. May I invite you to take time to let him know he is not forgotten and reassure him of your prayers by sending a card and some stamps. It would be wonderful in the light of his story winding up in our parish and his mother’s death he receives a wave of mercy and love from us. Lord, you offer freedom to all people. We pray for all who are captive in prison and for those who are affected by or involved in their imprisonment. Break the bonds of fear and isolation that exist. Support with your love, prisoners, their families, friends, prison staff and all who care. Heal those who have been wounded by the activities of others, especially the victims of crime. Help us to forgive one another, to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly together with Christ, in his strength and his spirit, now and every day. Amen. Praying your life is filled with what you need to live more freely, fully, faithfully, Love, Fr. Rich, SS.CC. Most of our parishioners are blessed with consistent and dependable paychecks. Yet, have you ever thought about how you would manage your bills and schedule your payments if you were never sure how much money you were going to have in your bank account. This is a problem that our parish faces every month. Weekly giving can fluctuate from $19,000 to $29,000. While we are most grateful for any gift that any parishioner can give at any time, to help us maintain a more consistent cash flow, we have established an online giving program. Those parishioners who are using the program tell us it is a great help to them, too. It allows them to clearly budget the amount that they want to give back to God and helps them feel assured that their parish is receiving their gift even when they are out-of-town, too busy to remember an envelope, or attending Mass at another parish. If you would like to learn more about this easy, safe and secure way of giving, please contact Michele Cote 909-599-1243 x 199 or Pat Joyce 909-599-1243 x 112 or check out our website at http://hnmparish.org Financial Stewardship: Thank you for your generosity to Holy Name of Mary Parish! March 15, 2015 St. Vincent De Paul Thank you so much for all that you give and have given to us so that we can continue to help those who are less fortunate in our community. Congratulations to our boys varsity basketball team. They had an awesome season. The team went 8-0 in league and were crowned 2015 Mountain East league Champions! Their greatest accomplishment; qualifying to play in the CYO Boys Varsity Basketball Final 4 will go down in the history books as the first HNM sports team to make the Final 4. Our season ended with a 1 point loss in double overtime. It was however the proudest moment in my coaching career as our boys played their hearts out. They gave it everything they had and a little bit more. They are all champions! I would like to thank Mrs. K, Father Rich, Erich Rentmeester, Coach Wally, Coach Ralf, HNM teachers, HNM alumni and all the parents for their tremendous support. I especially would like to thank each one of the players on our team for being such great team players. The opportunity to coach these outstanding young men over the last few years has been a blessing and one of the high lights of my life. The HNM Boys Varsity Basketball team dedicates their season to Mrs. K. We would all like to wish her an amazing retirement. Thank you.
