“Keep the commandments.” How much clearer can that be? Yet the rich man says, “Which ones?” There are Ten
Commandments, and he wants to know which ones, as if there is a choice. Time for the hammer, rich man! Get ready!
Jesus said, “If you seek perfection, go, sell your possessions and give them to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Afterwards, come back and follow me.” Matthew said it was too much for the rich man and he went away sad.

SISTERS OF MERCY CAR RAFFLE
On August 8-9, Sister Carolyn Coll
from the Sisters of Mercy will be making a brief presentation and asking
for your support for their twelfth annual car raffle. As in
the past, they will be raffling an automobile, a new 2015
Honda Civic LX. Your gospel response to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless over the past years has
been a blessing for the women and children who come
through our program. Once again, I am asking for your
support. We will be selling tickets after all the Masses.
Tickets are $5.00 each or six for $25.00. Thank you in advance for supporting our children and mothers.

New Classes To Begin in August:
BASICS OF ECCLESIASTICAL LATIN
If you have ever been moved by the beauty of the
Mass parts in Latin, or been drawn in by Mass in the
Extraordinary Form, or simply want to get to know
the language that has given us half the English
words we use every day, St. Michael's is hosting a
Latin class with you in mind. John Welsh, St.
Michael’s Middle School Latin teacher, will be offering his enrichment class in Church Latin this Fall to
begin to satisfy your curiosity and show you the
beauty of Latin from the inside.
Venite et videte! Come and see!
This class is open to all interested parishioners
(and their friends!) from ages 9 to 99, and will meet
once a week on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:00.
LATIN I FOR BEGINNERS
Mr. Welsh is also offering a second and more challenging Latin class for anyone wanting to go deeper
into Latin. This second class will be more demanding—the equivalent of a high school Latin I course. It
will utilize a high school level text in Church Latin,
The New Missal Latin, and require a greater commitment of time outside the classroom.
This class is open to anyone from the Eighth Grade
and up. No previous experience with Latin is necessary or required. It will meet once a week on Mondays from 9:30 to 11:00. Homeschooling families
looking to earn credit for Latin I are particularly encouraged to attend.
If interested in either class, speak to Mr. Welsh or
contact him at [email protected] or call
704-853-9394.
ST MICHAEL SCHOOL PTO

get involved and give back to our school contact Maureen Hahn at [email protected].
IS THIS YOUR YEAR?
A 25th & 50th Wedding Anniversary Mass will be held at St John Neumann in Charlotte at 2 PM on Sunday, October 18. Call St Michael parish office to be included.

The Feast of Pardon – August 2
-- In 1216, St. Francis of Assisi
persuaded Pope Honorius III to
grant a plenary indulgence to all
who visited the Portiuncula on
August 2 and confessed their
sins. The Portiuncula, or “Little
Portion”, is the cradle of the
Franciscan Order, established as
its headquarters by St. Francis
himself. On August 2, 1216, the
little church was dedicated under the patronage of St. Mary of
the Angels, and St. Francis
wanted everyone who visited
the Portiuncula to experience
forgiveness and blessing.
It is no longer necessary
to travel to Italy to gain this indulgence, as the Church has
made it possible for the faithful
who devoutly visit a parish
church or cathedral on August 2
to obtain a plenary indulgence,
under the usual conditions
(reception of Holy Communion,
Sacramental Confession within
20 days, prayers for the Holy
Father). This visit is also to include the recitation of the Lord’s
Prayer and the Creed. It seems
that St. Francis has been busy
working in Heaven to obtain
this expansion of the indulgence
so that all the faithful around
the world can experience the
fruits of his request to Pope
Honorius: “I want to send all
souls to Heaven!”

NEW FROM LIGHTHOUSE
MEDIA:
Finding the Fullness of Faith
Stephen Ray was raised in a devout, loving, Baptist family. In this
presentation, he shares his amazing conversion to Catholicism and
explains why he is convinced it is
the Church founded by Christ over
2000 years ago.
Understanding The Lord's Prayer
The Lord's Prayer is the centerpiece
of the most famous sermon ever
preached - the Sermon on the
Mount. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that this prayer
"is truly the summary of the whole
Gospel." Blending scripture with
the incredible insights of the early
Church Fathers, Dr. Scott Hahn
helps us discover the critical importance of this prayer in our daily
journey of faith.
Understanding the Crusades
Dr. Thomas Madden is a professor
of History at St. Louis University
and has appeared in such venues
as the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and
The History Channel.
In this eye-opening presentation,
Dr. Madden debunks popular
myths surrounding the crusades
and shows us how the different
misconceptions regarding the crusades have fed in the tension between the East and the West.
Discovering the Biblical
Significance of Mary
In one of the most inspiring CDs
we have ever offered on the Virgin
Mary, Dr. Scott Hahn reveals incredible insights on the Biblical basis for the Catholic teachings regarding Mary as the Ark of the
New Covenant. This presentation
will help shatter many misconceptions and clearly demonstrate how
Catholic teachings are unmistakably rooted in Sacred Scripture.
Three to Get Married
In this classic on love and marriage, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
places sex in the context of human
love, and human love in the context of Divine Love. One of the
greatest and best-loved spokesmen
for the Catholic Faith, he beautifully presents the Catholic concept of
marriage, emphasizing that our
Blessed Lord must be at the center
of every successful and loving marriage.

Multiplicación de los panes
Juan 6, 1-15. Pascua.
Jesús, ayúdame a saber multiplicar mi amor.

Baptisms are held at 2 pm on Saturdays. Baptism is the
most important moment of our life. Infants should be baptized in the first few weeks. Parents AND godparents must
attend the preparation class (held every 2nd Saturday)
preferably before the child is born. Parents need to be
registered in the parish, pledge to raise the child as a practicing Catholic, and must also be practicing the faith by
attending Holy Mass every Sunday. Godparents are considered Catholic role models. Therefore, they must have
received all sacraments, including Confirmation, and must
be attending Holy Mass every Sunday. If they are married,
they must have received the sacrament of Holy Matrimony
in the Catholic Church. Please come to the parish office to
register for the class and bring a copy of the child’s birth
certificate when it becomes available.
SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY
Couples should make an appointment with the priest at
the time of engagement, and at least six months before
any proposed wedding date to begin preparations. All
Weddings are celebrated inside the Church on Saturday at
10 AM or 12 pm.
