WHAT RETURN CAN I MAKE TO THE
LORD FOR ALL THE GOOD THINGS
HE HAS GIVEN ME?
A year ago we introduced our Stewardship program
with a series of special homilies including a very
powerful personal story of stewardship. At that time
many of you responded quite generously.
A lot has happened since then. One of the worst
winters in Chicago history, and a wet and soggy
spring and summer have all conspired to create a lot
of unplanned extra expenses. And there is the creeping inflation that pleases the Federal Reserve System, but does nothing to help keep costs down for
any of us.
But that is the way it always is. That is why an yearly reminder is important. So we ask you to listen
again this year to some special homilies. This time
we ask that you think of your relationship with Jesus
Christ, and how His Presence in your life adds a very
special wealth and richness that can be found from
Weekly Reflection
GOD'S WORD TODAY
"The Lord's way is not fair!" These first words from
the Prophet Ezekiel in today's first reading seem a
fitting response to the story we heard in last week's
Gospel. This is another reminder that our accepted
norms of behavior and our reward systems are often
turned on their heads when we consider God's ways.
In a society that makes upward mobility a treasure to
be pursued with everything we've got, today's word
of God makes little sense. The passage from Saint
Paul's letter to the Philippians is one of the most
beautiful and revered in all of the Christian scriptures. At the heart of this passage is the image of Jesus emptying himself. This is what we are called to
imitate. When we empty ourselves and become more
and more like Christ Jesus, we then share in his glory. This is one of those Sundays that really challenges our way of life. Let us join together in prayer, asking God to mold us and shape us into the image of
the one who emptied himself on our behalf.

Christian discipleship is not easy, God never promised it would be. But, what He did promise is that if
we put Him first in all things, He will provide all that
we need. Through our daily decisions we have the
opportunity to generously share our gifts and help
those who may not be in position to help themselves.

¿QUÉ DEBO HACER PARA VOLVERLE AL
SEÑOR POR TODO LO QUE ME HA
DADO?
